. >> announcer: news to build a better bay area. this is abc 7 mornings. good morning, everyone. it's saturday, december 14th. i'm liz kreutz. start lets start with a quick look at the weather. here is meteorologist lisa argen. good morning, lisa. >> good morning to you. and we do have a few isolated out there. low level moisture has been with us throughout the overnight hours. but you can see from live doppler 7 a lot of clouds. we widen the viewen a a couple of inches of snow expected in the mountains with a winter weather advisory. otherwise cool with numbers in the upper 40s in santa rosa. 54 in oakland. 52 in san jose. and that's a a lot cooler than yesterday at this hour. and the second half of the weekend is cooler. we have a 1 on the impact scale

today. it's for the latter half of the day. showers move in by the early evening hours. as a result your plans tonight could get wet out there. but notice highs today mainly in the 50s with some limited sun and we'll talk about the rest of the weekend. the week ahead in a few minutes, liz. >> thank you. chains are required for travel in much of the sierra this morning. including highway 50 and most of the roads around the lake and up to resorts. chain controls are also required on interstate 80 from playser county to the donner lake interchange. you can always check the conditions where you live with live doppler 7 on the abc 7 news app. investigators are calling the disappearance of this sun bruno woman suspicious. family and friends hope for the best but fearing the worst. today they are searching in nearby parks. lorin martinez talked to the woman's son. >> laurie episodeo has been missing two weeks. >> it's unlike to not contact me. >> the last day family and

friends heard from her is november 29th. her belongings left at her isn't san bruno condo. >> she left her dog she loved in her apartment. her car is at her residence. >> reporter: san bruno police detective mcmullin says she left her cell phone and wallet. >> this is completely out of character for this person. esposito is a retired social worker. >> helping out the children in abusive homes was her passion. interveeng physically and through the court system. >> if you have any idea of seeing miss esposito where she want, who she was with after november 29th we encourage to you reach out to the police department. >> reporter: for emanuel owe he wants to know what happened to his mom. >> finding her, at least what happened to her hoping everything comes to a conclusion. >> reporter: in san bruno lorin martin easy, abc 7.

governor newsom delivered a major plea to pg&e replicating the utility plan to pay wildfire victims and emerge from bankruptcy. pg&e announced a $3.5 billion-dollar settlement last week that would resolve all claims from the northern wildfires. but newsom says the plan isn't acceptable under state law doesn't provide for a new fwhds and don't allow for takeover of the company if necessary. if the statement pg&e says the plan complies with the law and will work to resolve issues. it says lacking ahead we are committed to getting victims paid complementing changes across our business to improve operations for the long-term and emerge from chapter 11 as a financially sound utility. according to the l.a. times newsom's required wasn't by law bup processingen e asked for it because it confirms to the law.

they can dip into a fund to pay costs. we sent the alert op the free abc 7 news app when newsom announced the decision last night. if you want alerts like this in the future the app is free in the app store. new details, the man wanted for a violent home invasion surrendered after a standoff with fremont police. this incident shut down a stretch of busy warm springs boulevard for several hours and cleared a construction site. abc 7 news reporter amanda dafts owe has the story. >> reporter: a violent home invasion led to hours long standoff with fremont police. on wood creek terrace to a nearby construction site and warm springs and brown road. >> the suspect went to the top floor, by himself, barricaded himself we had time on our sflied crediting communications for the peaceful outcome. hours before the man vend erpd sky7 captured him on the roof of the unfinished hotel.

police say he was armed with a knife and tempo. 50 construction workers had to be evacuated. >> the police were concerned he may grab a construction vest if he found one and put it on. and try and blend in. >> reporter: fremont police launched drones as part of the investigation. during the nearly six-hour long standoff officer say the map threw tools and objects from the roof. eventually he was taken into custody around 5:30. back at the gated community one resident who asked to remain aanonymous is shaken. >> we thought it was secure but it's still happening. we are concerned. >> reporter: police say the victim in the home invasion is expected to recover from injuries. the suspected will undergo a mental health ee vaflgs before being booked on charges related to friday's incident. in fremont, amanda del castillo, abc 7. in the east bay a man says a group of security guards racially profiled him accusing him of looking into cars

preparing to steal something when he was really taking photos of bike racks. the man told luz pena he feared for miss life as things escalated. >> why do you take pictures of the cars. >> no, no. >> i took pictures of the bike racks. >> no, i see you. >> this was the gipg of a tense situation between kenya wheeler and three security guards from a residential building in oakland. >> i felt a built violated here on a public street. >> minutes prior wheeler was taken of the bicycle racks covered in colorful area he was chair of the oakland bicyclist commission and wanted to show the bike racks to colleagues. but instead these guards came out to question him. >> what do you think he was implying. >> well he said that he knew what i was doing and that he thought i was casing the cars. >> reporter: according to wheeler one of the guards pulled a firearm and refused to let him go. >> it was extremely clear especially when the hong was drawn processes a racist act and

the only reason like i'm being treated this way is i'm black. >> reporter: wheeler says he feared for his life and decided not to move. the second thought was to call police and tell the story. >> once oakland police arrived wheeler was free to go. in the statement the building responsible tor the guards said to abc we share the concerns mr. wheeler expressed as he was on a public sidewalk and shouldn't have been confronted at all effective immediately we have change security providers. after this incident oakland mayor libby schaaf says she will send an engagement team to the developments in the area. and to wheeler's wednesday night has to be part of a broader conversation. >> everyone should be safe to walk on the street, age ob gender, ethnicity. >> in oakland, luz pena. happening today in the south bay volunteers pack food boxes to distribute as part of saerkd heart community services program.

present add $15,000 check to the redwood empire food bianca bank in support of feeding america's produce program. the staffers said the donation are will help them buy 60,000 in grocery for the 1 in six residents to face food insecurity. >> we have buying power to buy the food we need and distribute it. we get a lot of donated food which we way pay to transport and distribute. >> the redwood empire food bank serves some 82,000 a year. including 25,000 after the north bay fires. and our parent company disney has been supporting feeding america since 2012. in the north bay, a ribbon cutting ceremony will be held this morning for a new smart station in downtown novato. yesterday abc 7 news was at the larkspur station as it opened. expecting to life make easier for commuters trying to get to san francisco. it's less than half a in mile from the larkspur landing. those worried about cut going crosstaking the train to catch a

ferry, smart says it plans for people to transfer. >> but we made sure in the ferry schedule and the train schedule that you've got 20, 25 minutes to get there and bebe on the ferry in time. >> train service officially begins today. there are plans to take smart train service further north with a station in windsor. lets get another check of the weather with lisa argen. hey, lisa. hey, liz, a continuation of much of the week. low level moisture and a few scattered showers. here a look at live doppler 7 where you can see not a lot of activity out there. but we will be looking still at some snow in the mountains. in fact for the west slopes in lasts right up until sunday morning. but for the greater lake tahoe area we're talking about just 10:00. with a couple of inches of snow below 2500 feet. and here a system moving in bringing organized rain but light throughout the late

afternoon early evening hours. you can see that zonal flow right that that kept the showers going for much the work week in the north bay or the the city. a look at the advisory for the mountains 10 to 15 inches of snow for the west slope. in could go up to 24 inches for the highest peaks. certainly travel difficulties there. otherwise just a couple of inches around lake tahoe. so if you're planning on going the next couple of days not a good idea to go today. better for sunday. and the sun will be coming out later on tomorrow, monday includeding up on tuesday. but that advisory in effect through sunday morning. 52 in san francisco. 54 in oakland. 53 for hayward and 49 in fremont. kind of cool out there. a one on the storm impact scale later on today. we start with a chance of rain. and then we'll see some very light scattered showers with light winds throughout the early evening hours into the overnight hours. if you are headed out you may

get wet tonight. isolated showers this morning with fog the next round of rain later on today and then drying out for sunday and monday. but boy the temperatures really dropping getting into sunday night and monday morning. could even see some 30s on the coast. this is the plan for later on today. looking at some sunshine out there. a few clouds as well. so we'll call it partly cloudy. stopping this at 7:00 tonight. you can see the showers from cloverdale off the coast and these push on through the bay area and ending by early tomorrow. talking about maybe 0.1 of inch of rain. not much at all. and by the time we wake up sunday, cool but with some sunshine. so today the one on the storm impact scale later on today. 58 for your high in concord. clouds around there right now. brightening up in the north bay but only in the 50s. 58 on peninsula, san mateo. a lot of games going on locally tomorrow and the weather cooperating we'll have sun over in oakland. cool, temperatures in the 50s
