take over, in the 50s. breezy, cool but a lot of sunshine and a frosty night ahead. liz? >> thank you. we want to start with a developing story, pg&e has until tuesday now to amend its bankruptcy reorganization plan. experts say it will be almost impossible to make enough changes to please governor newsom. the governor rejected the utilities plan and says it doesn't do enough to improve management or beef up procedures under the state wildfire in july. a bankruptcy professor says the company is focused on survival. >> it is fair for governor newsom to criticize this company and fair for him i think to criticize this plan, but i think it's somewhat unrealistic to expect the bankruptcy process to fix all the problems the company has. >> pg&e's power lines have been implicated in sefrl deadly fires and the bankruptcy plans relies on the company tapping into a state fund to pay more than $13

billion in claims. newsom appears to wants the option of breaking up the utility if the bankruptcy plan falls apart. >> he seems to be suggesting he wants the right if pg&e leaves bankruptcy and not successful to perhaps seize its assets and give them to local entities, although that's not clear. >> newsom's approval isn't legally required for the bankruptcy but his cooperation will be needed to tap into the state fund to settle with fire victims. pg&e says it believes the plan complies with the law and will work to resolve any issues. done begunness crab season began at the stroke of mid neat. fleets prepared cages before they headed out. boat captains may wait a little longer for ocean conditions to calm down. the season was pushed back a month after aerial surveys found too many whales still in the air. crabbing nets increase the risk of entanglement.

it will be two more weeks before the season starts in coastal waters north of mendocino counties. an east bay ice rink is melting. the community say they are not letting the crime put a damper on christmas. abc 7 news reporter luz pena explains for the time being, though, the ice rink is more like a lake. >> reporter: while the 37th annual brentwood holiday parade is in sful swing once it turns on second street things turn from joyful to -- >> kind of disappointed. >> reporter: supposed to be brentwood on ice's day. 10 to 12 birthday parties were planned. expected to skate. take a look. the ice rink is empty. >> we came in this morning and it was a lake instead of an ice rink. kind of panicked and ran around. >> reporter: once tom gregory got to the bank of the rink he found water running down his parking lot and his equipment tampered with. >> they opened up a couple drain

lines that emptied the refrigerant, a lot of the refrigerant out of our ice rink system. unfortunately, it may have damaged the chiller as well. we're having to replace the chiller tonight. >> reporter: getting enough layers of ice will take between three to four days. so the next time this ice rink will be open for the public will potentially be on wednesday. gregory suspects these customers caught on camera he says stole a pair of skates and got into an argument with an employee friday night and says they might have come back overnight and vandalized his business. he filed a police report but as he waits ice keeps melting a away. jeremy newberry said his kids were looking forward to it. >> the grinch of christmas for so many yaung people. this is a great thing for this community and they took money out of real nice people's mouths. >> reporter: while this community waits for the ice rink to reopen, they've come together to support the local business in a different way. buying hot quality and sweaters

while some bet on what santa might bring the vandals this year. >> santa is not going to give them gifts this year? probably not. yeah. probably just some coal. >> reporter: luz pena, abc news. >> she looked bummed. today marks the end of an era for the oakland raiders. the team plays their very last home game at the coliseum. one pan says he was at the very first game and plans to be there today as well. only one small problem, abc 7 news reporter anser hassan has the story. >> reporter: dave detlefsen says he went to the very first oakland raiders game, played at the oakland coliseum. >> i want to let them know hey, i was out there at the first game. >> reporter: the newspaper picture from september 18, 1966. tave is the high school student on the right with the horn. the raiders lost to kansas city that day and once in college. >> i sold my beer. >> reporter: worked raider home games at the coliseum. >> i had to make a living. i was going to college.

>> reporter: dave has been a raider fan almost six decades. die hard raider nation fans should know who his favorite player is. >> i got my famous freddie biletnikoff autograph jersey. here we go. >> reporter: dave's house is full of raider memorabilia. >> this is what he signed. >> helmet signed by biletnikoff and rich gannon and loads of bobble heads. >> reporter: dave grew up in oakland and when he retired from the fire department his crew knew how big a fan he was so they gave him a raiders fire helmet. >> 32 years. >> retired as captain. >> retired. >> reporter: one thing dave doesn't have. >> i still need a ticket. >> reporter: dave gets emotional thinking about the team leaving, reflecting back to day one and says even if he doesn't get a ticket to sunday's last raiders home game he will be out there with his sign in his biletnikoff

jersey and hat pleading silver and black. >> i got to be there. i got to be there. i just got to be there. >> reporter: in oakland, anser hassan, abc 7 news. >> according to ticketmaster, the average ticket price for today's game is $312 a increase. quarterback derek carr talked about how special the coliseum and raiders fans are to him. head coach jon gruden loves raider nation and wants to send everyone out with a win. >> i wish i had more time to, you know, really sit down and make that the big story here. thank the fans for their support over the years and what this franchise has accomplished and what it means and what oakland means to the raiders. i would like to thank everybody that welcomed us when we came back and i know they're going to stay with us when we go, but, you know, appreciate all the fans and their loyalty and

welcome back. a search and rescue volunteer team member was found dead on southern california's mound baldy covered in snow right now. the team member seen here, i think we have a photo, tim staples, was helping in the search for a missing hiker. the san bernardino county

sheriff says during the search yesterday a team member radioed he got separated from his partner after an apparent fall. he was found dead in the ice and snow. he was an experienced searcher and investigators are trying to figure out exactly what happened. the search for the hiker is now being suspended as crews reevaluate the conditions. >> we are doing almost a gun alm a half a snints more than 200 guns turned in two hours. a buyback in san francisco was one of many around the bay area intended to get guns off the streets and honor victims of gun violence. here's reporter cornell bernard. >> to celebrate life,life,life,, ♪ >> reporter: a vigil at third baptist church to remember victims of gun violence. >> reporter: christine pelosi, daughter of nancy pelosi, read the names of 26 victims most of

them children, from the sandy hook mass shooting in connecticut. >> 7 years ago today, little angels who have now been dead longer than they've been alive. >> reporter: in san francisco, dozens of people traded in their unwanted guns for cash. $100 for handguns, $200 for assault weapons. >> no questions asked. you don't have to say where you got the weapon or, you know, if you have any more left. we want to get the guns we can off the street. >> reporter: violence prevention group unated play partnered with the sfpd during the buyback. during the event 317 weapons were turned in, including 93 rifles, 75 revolvers, even a few antique pistols. i'm surprised but that only says they, too, wish to be the owners of wishing to save lives instead of promoters of taking lives. >> reporter: gilroy hosted a gun buyback the first in southern santa clara county in 25 years. >> people were running from the

festival by our front yard. >> reporter: last summer's shooting at the gilroy garlic festival prompted rod's son-in-law to turn in 15 guns. >> he and his wife, my daughter, wanted to make sure these got off the street. everybody has been strongly influenced by what happened at the gilroy festival. >> reporter: gilroy's buyback collected almost 500 guns. police say all of the guns turned in will be destroyed. >> cornell barnard, abc 7 news. the tv series about the deadly 2016 ghost ship warehouse fire is on hold for now. anger over the project caused the husband and wife creators of the potential series to put the tv drama on pause. authors michael shaybun and ilet waldman signed a deal for several tv projects but they say they hadn't sold the ghost ship project. even speculation about the project led many friends and foolly members of the 36 victims urged them to reconsider, saying it was too soon to relive the

tragedy. the couple said their pleas led to a change of heart and agreed to stop the project. san francisco police and volunteers will gather today to look for a stolen dog named jackson. here is a photo of this 5-year-old mini australian shepherd tweeted by san francisco police. officers say someone stole jackson yesterday morning from outside the good life grocery store on courtland avenue. anyone with information about jackson's whereabouts is asked to call sfpd. two wildfire survivors in paradise are spend this weekend in their brand new tiny home. the roberts family could not hold back tears. you can see them here. when they got the home this week. volunteers from the reach out worldwide foundation spent four days building the tiny home. they lost everything in the campfire last year, the deadliest wildfire in california's history. one family member couldn't believe this was all for them. >> my reaction, this ain't my

place, you know. they did such a good job. it was like a dream come true. >> roberts said his only goal since the fire has been to keep his family safe and dry. and this gift is lifting a huge weight off of his shoulders. some good news. super shuttle is going out of business at the end of the year. now the service carries passengers to and from airports across north america, europe and asia. in recent years it's had trouble competing with ride share companies like uber and lyft. the company had begun suspending service around the world. a letter obtained by the "l.a. times" to a franchise said the super shuttle will honor all reservation through december 31st. a nur muir yal unveiled to honor a man whose life has become an inspiration. it was shared at the canal alliance building. as a boy he helped his adopted family pick cotton in the

central valley until he went to college. he became a pediatrician and cared for migrant farm workers for 30 years. he is the subject of a documentary set to be released next year. all right. happening today on the peninsula, shake shack they're opening their third bay area restaurant. the east coast burger chain will open its stores at hillsdale shopping center in san mateo at 11:00 this morning. the first 100 guests will get shake shack beanies. they plan to open two san francisco locations one inside the westfield mall downtown and another in cal hallow. those locations do not have opening dates yet. the battle of the burgers is getting even more heated. okay. in the east bay concord's holiday tree lighting is happening today after being rescheduled from last weekend because of the wet weather. it will start at 4:00 p.m. santa claus will be there from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. to hear what the kids want for christmas and the city will honor the clayton

valley charter high school football team which won its first ever state championship and also festive performances. the tree lighting is at 6:30 p.m. and we know that it was rescheduled because of rain but seems like they should be okay today. >> we have a lot of sunshine and you will need the sunglasses for sure. live doppler 7 we're looking at the shower activity that continues to press to the south and basically we are clear and cool this morning. next chance of rain coming late tuesday into wednesday but we'll be dry between now and then. as we look at current numbers, it's cold out there in the 30s up in the north bay. 37 santa rosa. it's 50 in oakland, 45 in fremont. we get our coldest temperatures towards sunrise which is well after 7:00. these numbers will drop off another few degrees, two to three degrees, looking at tomorrow one of the coldest months we've seen. 8 degrees cooler in livermore, same deal in san francisco, up

in the north bay, it's been in the 30s, but as we look at golden gate bridge, nobody there, nice and quiet with clear skies this morning and cool, chilly numbers out there as we get through the morning. sunny and cool this afternoon with our next chance of rain coming in mid week. so the winds, they will be gusty at the coast, 20 to 30 miles an hour, elsewhere about 15 to 20 miles an hour in the north bay. as we roll this through the day notice that pretty light winds over in the east bay with a lot of sun, should feel pretty good out there. numbers in a narrow range, mid and upper 50s, the rest of the week looking at the dry start for you today as we go into your monday, we also have sunshine to begin and a few high clouds, this is tuesday, then here comes the rain late tuesday into wednesday. we're talking the light rain through the midnight hour and then wednesday looks to be a rainy day ending by thursday. and we're keeping it dry on friday. looks like another system heading our way into next

weekend. we will be back with on and off showers throughout the work week. 56 in oakland, about the same in fremont, looking mid 50s in the south bay. nice day in santa rosa, 57, the overnight lows once again chilly with mid 30s there. in fact near freezing some of the protected valleys. how about low 40s in santa cruz, along the coast, some areas in the 30s along the shoreline as well. the accuweather seven-day forecast, mid 50s with the cold start, dry afternoon, starting out very cold tomorrow. lots of sun, though, and as the clouds increase on monday we could see rain as early as late tuesday. one on our storm impact scale. wednesday, dry but cloudy thursday and friday and the next rain still can't really focus on the amount or the timing, but it looks like next weekend could be a heavier rain. we will keep you posted on that. nice break in between now and midweek. >> definitely a nice break. some scattered showers but next

welcome back. renters in the san francisco bay area are more likely to be victimized by a rental scam. an economist estimates more than 5 milpitas consumers have been victimized by this scam. michael finney explains. >> reporter: what happened to the gonzalez family is not unusual. they were forced to live in

their van after being duped into putting down $10,000 for what they thought was this rental property in south san francisco. they told their story to our luz pena. >> this is where you sleep now. >> yeah. >> has it been hard? >> yeah. >> why? >> because it's uncomfortable. >> reporter: lori wilson of the better business bureau told me the scam is prevalent in the bay area. >> rent prices have gone up and up and sometimes we're more desperate. we have to get out of our apartment, find a new one, and this price looks pretty darn good. >> reporter: what happened to the gonzalezs is typical of how this scam works. the fraud ster copies photos from a legitimate ad, in this case the phony ad ended up on facebook marketplace. the landlord was conveniently not available to show the inside of the home. but priced the home at $1,000 below market value. an offer the family jumped on.

giving in the holiday spirit. abc 7 was in san jose where more than be 300 volunteers with sacred heart community service put together food boxes. they will hand them out later this week to 3500 families. each box is filled with fresh fruits, veg fwigys, rice, oil, eggs and bread and families get to pick whether they want to take home a turkey, ham or chicken. this helps many for a holiday meal. for some it means surviving. >> not only for a 50 pound box of food for folks for the holidays but for a lot of families it's the groceries they need to get through the end of the month. >> sacred heart members report 80% of their paycheck goss to housing leave little left for food, bills and other expenses. still to come, why search democratic presidential hopefuls are threatening to boycott an upcoming debate in southern california. an emotional night in newtown, connecticut. the impressive feat the high school football team pulled off on the anniv

good morning. we're going to start this half hour with a look at the weather. here's meteorologist lisa argen. >> skies have cleared, it is cold out there, patchy fog, but we're looking at the showers sinking south. it is in the upper 30s in the north bay with about 40 in san ramon and temperatures will drop off in the next couple hours. 4 degrees cooler in oakland, 12 degrees colder in napa. we had a pretty good downpour or two last night. by 10:00 we'll be in the low 50s. temperatures don't go very far. we will be breezy to gusty at the coast in terms of our northwesterly winds that keep us dry. throughout the afternoon, sun today, a few clouds developing over the higher hillsp. we'll talk about our next chance

of rain. >> thank you. all seven presidential candidates scheduled for this week's democratic debate are threatening to boycott. the debate schedule for thursday at loyola mara mount university but the workers union announced they will be pickets outside that day, fighting for better wages and benefits since their contract expired back in april. the first candidate to stand in solidarity with the food service workers was senator elizabeth warren announcing support in this tweet. the rest of the candidates announced their support as well. >> we have to sit at the table ap resolve these issues and get the wages and health care that the workers deserve. >> the dnc responded saying its president would never cross a picket line and never expect their candidates to either. several democratic candidates making their way through the bay area for fund-raisers and town hall events. joe biden was in pal low alto

them to shut down their computers. ransomware was detected but unclear who carried out this attack. >> we expect that data loss has been very minimal. we are glad that we were able to respond quickly. >> public safety service at the new orleans fire department provides have not been impacted and working as we would in a hurricane scenario and on hard copies. >> officials say about 4,000 computers must be scrubbed as a precaution. cyber security firm mc soft reports they've been -- there have been more than 900 ransom ware attacks on government agencies, health care providers and school districts this year. police have identified a gunman suspected of opening fire at an atlanta mall injuring one man. >> everybody in the store pretty much fled to the back rooms or of bath and body works. there was an elderly woman on the floor. i don't think she could move that fast. two other gentlemn were helping

her take cover in the back. >> police say the chaos started in the food court yesterday afternoon when an argument between the suspect and victim escalated to gunfire. they are still searching for that suspect. attorneys for actress lori loughlin say prosecutors are withholding evidence the defense has a right to examine. loughlin and her husband face charges in the college admission scandal. the team filed a motion asking the defense to turn in the material as evidence. both pleading not guilty to paying $500,000 in a cheating and bribery scheme. the defense argues they thought it was a gift, not a bribe. both parents face up to 40 years in prison. it was an emotional football game in newton, connecticut on the seventh anniversary of the sanity hook shooting in the town yesterday. the local high school won the state championship.

the day, lot of sunshine and temperatures are going to be in the 50s all across the bay area. heaing over to oakland to check out the raiders or just hang out today, shopping, or enjoying the sun, we will be in the mid 50s throughout the afternoon. we'll see a few of those clouds develop over the higher elevations as the sun warms the surface, but overall we are setting up for pretty nice, dry, northwesterly flow today and tomorrow before things switch around and we see more widespread rain head our way midweek. a look at the current setup, the activity paralleling the coast heading to the south and with it taking the clouds because basically we are cloud free this morning. look towards the north and west, more clouds setting up here for that next chance of rain. at this point maybe a half inch or so coming in, into wednesday. it is 50 degrees in oakland, 45 in hayward and fremont, san jose

a popular hayward restaurant is closing its doors after 71 years in business. the hayward ranch opened in 1948 on mission boulevard. its current owners say it will close for good after a final new year's eve farewell. reporter leslie brinkley takes us inside. >> reporter: on mission boulevard you can't miss the bullheaded sign of the hayward ranch. once inside, you've stepped into a wood panel time capsule filled with things like old cash registers and phonographs. >> they used to have a porter house steak here, it was so big it would drape over the sides of the plate and it was the best steak. it was the greatest. >> we're like family. friends and family that come here. >> you know everybody by name. >> yes. >> conversations. >> first name basis. >> there aren't many places like that. >> only place in hayward. everybody is wondering where they're going to go. >> reporter: the crystal the owner is ill so he's decided not to run the business anymore.

news to build a better bay area, this is "abc 7 mornings." good morning. sunday, december 15th. i'm liz kruetz. here's lisa argen. >> good morning. a dry day in store for you. a few showers along the san mateo coast that continue to sink southward. notice a little bipink there. some mixing with the freezing precip and it is cold out there. it is 35 in santa rosa, 50 in oakland with 46 in san jose. even a lot cooler than we were yesterday at this hour despite a pretty clear start yesterday as well. northwesterly winds taking over bringing the numbers 10 to 14 degrees cooler to start, but by the afternoon with plenty of sunshine we'll be in the mid 50s again today. a few clouds building up over the higher elevations and we will start out dry for the workweek and things begin to change late tuesday
