commute. expect delays or alternate. our usual slowdown tracy to dublin, 43 minutes. this morning u.p.s. is recovering after a nationwide outage with holiday shipping deadlines right around the corner. >> don't worry, you still have a little bit of time. julian glover is live with everything you need to know. good morning. >> reporter: yeah, good morning. a little bit of time is the key phrase here as we get ready for the busiest shipping day -- the busiest shipping week of the year. when the u.p.s. stores reopen they should be back up to normal and fully functional after a nationwide system outage caused some delays and some long lines for the 4,800 u.p.s. stores all across the country. so u.p.s. stores were unable to process some requests on monday, but the company says their systems have now regained online access to process shipping transactions and all locations nationwide are conducting business as usual. really good news because deadlines to make sure your

holiday gifts make it under the christmas tree in time are quickly approaching. and if you wait until the last minute, expect to pay up. >> if you're willing to pay a lot extra you could presumably ship something as late as the 23rd and get it in time for christmas that will cost you more, though, and you do run the risk of unforeseen delays including weather. >> reporter: if you are a last-minute person, i won't judge you. i will help you out. let's walk you through the last possible days you can drop something off in the mail and make sure it's there for christmas eve. for u.p.s., december 23rd is the last day to ship u.p.s. next day air. for fedex december 21st is your last day to ship. and usps december the 23rd is your day, the day before christmas eve for priority mail express. a lot of packages are going to be flying around very soon. 800 million packages are

expected to be touched by usps alone. a lot of holiday shipping and shopping. reporting live, i'm julian glover. >> i guess i need to get on it. >> really, reggie, you should have been on it. >> you know who i am. >> i know. and we love you. right now on our website you can find details on this holiday shipping story everything from the deadlines to how companies are making sure deliveries get to you ontime. in the south bay the man suspected of stabbing a woman before taking their 2-year-old daughter is in jail in santa clara county this morning, and this is the back story. the situation led to an amber alert. strangers ended up cornering the suspect at a gas station in cambria, about 200 miles south of san jose. the suspect locked his keys inside a van at a gas station. his 2-year-old daughter was safe inside. video shows people surrounding it before police arrived and made the arrest. the gas station manager watched

all of this unfold. >> and so he went over behind him and grabbed him pretty much in the chokehold or a bear hug and held him until the police came. >> incredibly brave. these are just people watching this go down. the girl's mother was found slumped over in a car not far from her san jose home. she is in the hospital in critical condition. mcgann is being held kout bail. in the east bay violence erupted during a sideshow in oakland. police tweet this had photo of a car being towed over the weekend. the department says a person was cited. about 100 people were at the sideshow. officers say someone in the crowd fired shots and then a police vehicle was damaged but luckily in all of this no one was hurt. 5:05 this morning, developing news in the impeachment showdown. the final and full house vote on the two articles of impeachment against president trump is tomorrow. >> more on on on on

>> reporter: this morning the house rules committee meeting for a marathon session to set the ground rules for this week's final full house vote on impeachment. this as many moderates face backlash from both sides as they announce how they plan to vote. congresswoman slotkin getting cheered and booed as she reveals she plans to vote yes. >> i will be voting less on on construction of congress. >> reporter: in new jersey congressman will impose impeachment and is planning to switch parties and become a republican causing most of his staff to resign. with impeachment expected to pass the house on wednesday the focus is now turning to a senate trial. democrats doubling down on their demand to hear from four witnesses the white house had blocked from testifying including acting chief of staff mick mulvaney and former national security adviser john

bolton. >> these people know better than anybody else the facts. there is no reason on god's green earth why they shouldn't be called and testify unless you're afraid of what they might say. >> reporter: republicans are promising total coordination with the white house. >> i am clearly made up my mind. i'm not trying to hide the fact i have disdain for the accusations and the process. >> reporter: schumer is set to meet with mitch mcconnell to figure out the terms of that impending senate trial. schumer says he would like the trial to start the week of january 6 and go about three weeks. ultimately mcconnell will have the final say, and he's indicated he would like a speedy trial. a proposed hotel and housing development near chase center in san francisco is up for discussion today. the golden state warriors have proposed building a 129-room hotel and 21 units.

it is now 5:12. if you're just waking up to us, good morning. here are the 7 things to know. number one, breaking news. solano county deputies are investigating a double homicide just outside of vallejo. two men are dead. a woman is in the hospital. investigators say the people involved got into a fight and there is no threat to the public at this time. number two, san francisco mayor london breed is set to tour the city's controversial new navigation center on the

embarcadero today. the first homeless are set to move in by the end of the month. number three, a car theft suspect is in the hospital with severe burns. they say raul anthony rodriguez ditched a stolen car in san jose during a chase and then ran into a nearby home. the homeowner got out but the house caught fire with the suspect still inside. number four, u.p.s. stores are reopening after a nationwide system outage yesterday. they are back to business as usual and should have no issues maintaining their schedule during this holiday rush. number five is all about our weather. this area of low pressure here, a chance of light to moderate rain not only tonight but also tomorrow. gusty breezes and a rainfall amount up to three-quarters of an inch of rain. >> number six, aside from an issue we are following in fremont, your tuesday morning commute is looking very good. and number seven, happy 30th birthday to "the simpsons." the show premiered 30 years ago

today and 670 episodes later it is still chugging along. by the way, the entire show's library is now streaming on d disney plus. check this out, 11 people hurt after a van crashed through the window, the front window of a ross, seemingly as a getaway car for a shoplifter inside. it happened in the city just outside of seattle last night in burien. a 2-year-old boy was in a stroller. the child's 41-year-old grandfather and then a man in his 30s. detectives say when the van smashed through the window a woman shoplifting got into the passenger seat. witnesses say it really was just a blur. >> he came through very fast. the people up at the cash register just got plowed over. in today's "gma first look"

jewelry was stolen from her home blocks from kensington palace. >> reporter: in this morning's "gma first look" a brazen robbery. tens of millions of dollars in jewelry reported stolen from one of the most prestigious and highly secure streets in the world, home to the sultan of brunei, china's richest man, and blocks away from prince william and his family in kensington palace. police are looking for three men who allegedly broke into the home, heiress ecclestone. a 57 room mansion, a collection worth $67 million. police believe the men broke in just hours before ecclestone posted this photo on instagram showing her 5-year-old daughter boarding their private jet as the family of three headed to finland for the holidays. a live report from billionaires row at 7:00 a.m. with your "gma first look" abc news, new york.

most adversely affected by the wet weather as the rain will continue and keep us slippery even pond forgive you're one of our earlier commuters tomorrow morning. some caution out there as the showers will taper but will be slow drying so still will be some wet spots to contend with. this is 6:00 this evening to 7:00 and you can see we're up around 20-mile-per-hour crosswind on our bridges. that will pick up overnight through about 3:00 and then tomorrow morning you can see the breezes taper. when most of us are not on the roads that's when the winds will be fastest. boeing is halting its production of the 737 max jet. this comes as the company struggles to get approval from regulators to put the plane back in the air. it has been grounded after crashes in ethiopia and indonesia that killed a total of 346 people. boeing builds the jets at its plant outside of seattle. it doesn't expect layoffs but some employees will be

temporarily re-assigned. >> it shocks me there is not going to be a furlough. pretty good of boeing really. it keeps people working. >> it's not clear yet how long production will be suspended. the warriors are 5-23 right now but their dominance the past several years has earned them the title of the team of the decade. it is based on success on and off the court. golden state has gone to the finals five times, won three championships. they have been innovators on the business side and just opened the state-of-the-art chase center. more than 120 pro franchises were in the mix and the warriors came out number one. love is in the air on the next season of "the bachelor." the lineup of contestants and turns out a flight attendant from san francisco will try to win pilot pete's heart. in her bio26-year-old megan says she became a flight attendant to see the world. "the press democrat" did some

a little bit of sunshine and mainly cloudy at 4:00. mid to upper 50s. mainly cloudy. 47 to mid-50s. it's by 8:00 when the rain starts to roll in. we'll talk more about that coming up. at the live desk we are following breaking news right now. authorities are investigating a double homicide outside of vallejo limits. police rushed out to the scene near east orchard avenue. they say a fight broke out at a home overnight. in the end two men were found dead, at least one of them shot to death. a woman hurt and taken to the hospital. she's expected to be okay. a sheriff's deputy says neighbors are not in danger this morning. >> there's no further reason for the public to be aware. we believe the parties involved are on scene and we want the community to know we'll be out

here for a while investigating. >> a gun was found near the crime scene. we'll bring you the latest updates. happening today san francisco mayor london breed will get a tour of the new navigation center along the embarcadero. the center has been controversial from the start and many neighbors are uneasy. abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield live for us in san francisco. amy? >> reporter: hi, reggie. here it is, the new embarcadero navigation center. it can hold 200 homeless people and costs $4 million to build. mayor london breed pushed hard for this center, and residents pushed back spending $250,000 to fight against the center in court. residents rallied around this example as a reason to keep the center out of the neighborhood. a homeless man attacked a woman in the lobby of her building saying he was trying to protect her from robots. this video went viral and it brought this issue to the forefront. homeless advocates say we need

more shelters. we shouldn't be fighting against them. >> it's a disgrace we live in a city with all the billionaires and all the money the city has and can't get people a safe bed at night. it's a basic human right. >> reporter: this area is full of condominium buildings with units starting at $1 million. the center is on embarcadero here on the waterfront. the mayor says you will see police officers dedicated to patrolling this area. the mayor will tour the new center today along with other dignitaries and people will start moving in by the end of the month. live in san francisco, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. thanks, amy. a car theft suspect's escape plan landed him in the hospital with severe burns and left a family without a home. >> 29-year-old raul anthony rodriguez was driving a stolen vehicle near lewis and senter roads. officers tried to pull him over.

instead deputies say rodriguez took off on foot and broke into a home on santee river court. the homeowner was able to escape the house. but then around 5:45 the house caught fire with the suspect inside. >> by the time they actually got here that house that was burning was fully engulfed that i could see from the street. >> the suspect suffered significant injuries. he is now facing several charges. pg&e has until the end of the day to submit a new restructuring plan to meet governor newsom's demands. he says the current plan does not meet the requirements of a new california safety law. pg&e proposed giving $13 billion to wildfire victims. it would allow the company to emerge from bankruptcy before a june 30th deadline. the governor has rejected it. abc 7 news spoke with protesters outside pg&e headquarters in san francisco. >> it's more important to reach a settlement that is complete

rather than reaching one just to make it quick. >> they meet the requirements of bill 1054. we will continue to work diligently in the coming days to resolve any issues. happening today sonoma county lead letters announce emergency measures to deal with the homeless crisis. the plan includes possible creation of a short-term shelter or several of them at county fair grounds. sky 7 was over an encampment along highway 12 near the fair grounds. the almost 200 people who are living right here. 24/7 security. women face challenges getting promoted within the san francisco police department. the two-year-long report released by the department on the status of women. while women are being promoted

to leadership positions at a higher rate, women are underrepresented in specialized units. the police chief said he is committed to addressing the concerns. covered california officials say they saw a surge in enrollment and decided to make this extension happen. it takes effect january 1st and means everyone has to have health insurance coverage or face a $695 fine. a warning if you have passed through l.a.x. recently. a heads-up the next time you fill up your tank. >> i did wake up this morning and i was pretty cold. i don't usually turn the heat on.

it's a windy day down in socal, high wind warning up to 70-mile-per-hour gusts, if you're heading down that way it will be tough driving in the higher elevations and trying to fly in there. temperatures 66 in l.a. and san diego. 62 in palm springs. 61 in monterey. everybody else drops into the 50s at least in the lower elevations. up in tahoe it will be about 38 degrees. a look at tahoe's forecast, light snow tomorrow. a couple inches. and then dry weather to get you up there but sunday, heading home, driving through moderate snow. three people are dead after several deadly tornadoes in the south. here is new video coming in to our newsroom showing you the damage. a couple of killed in alabama after a twister touched down in huntsville. several others were hurt including a child. in louisiana two possible tornadoes touched down near shreveport. police say a woman died when her mobile home was destroyed. powerful winds damaged a school,

church, and public works buildings. reggie? people traveling through l.a.x. in los angeles may have been exposed to measles. public health officials announced three people with the virus passed through last wednesday. they were in terminals four and five. because of that other people may be at risk of developing measles. symptoms may develop one to three weeks after exposure. visa says hackers could be stealing your information when you pay at the gas pump. hackers are exploiting weaknessness point of sales systems. they can intercept your credit card information. the hack affects systems that use a magnetic strip not a chip. visa says multiple attacks have been discovered but it isn't % saying where. gas station operators have until next october to install more secure systems or will be held liable for any fraud. happening today a job fair to fill dozens of positions in the restaurant injury at the airport. jobs available include assistant
