down a burst of applause from democrats. democrats charge the president abused his power to manipulate the 2020 election withholding nearly $400 million in military aid and the promise of a white house visit to pressure ukraine to investigate his political rival joe biden. the house vote fell almost exactly along party lines with not a single republican supporting impeachment. >> when you see something that is not right, not just, not fair, you have a moral obligation to say something, to do something. >> reporter: two democrats voted with republicans, new jersey congressman jeff van drew who is expected to leave the democratic party and minnesota congressman collin peterson. justin amash, a republican turned independent voted with the democrats. >> his actions reflect precisely the type of conduct the framers of the constitution intended to remedy through the power of impeachment. >> reporter: republicans insist democrats are on a political

branded themselves with an eternal mark of shame, and it really is. it's a disgrace. >> reporter: moments after last night's vote, pelosi cast new uncertainty into the process when she declined to say when or even if democrats will deliver the articles of impeachment to the senate citing concerns about an unfair trial. >> we'll make a decision as a group as we always have as we go along. >> reporter: democrats want to call witnesses during the trial in the republican-controlled senate next month. but majority leader mitch mcconnell has rejected that request saying it was the job of the house to investigate. mcconnell wants a speedy senate trial and says he will coordinate with the white house stirring anger among democrats who claim mcconnell needs to be impartial because the senate acts as the jury in this process. and senate majority leader mitch mcconnell is expected to meet with senate minority leader schumer today to figure out the

terms of that senate trial. it is expected to begin on the week of january 6th but again that's if house speaker nancy pelosi decides to move the process forward. ultimately democrats will need 67 votes in the senate to be able to remove president trump from office, and there is virtually no chance of that happening. janai and kenneth. >> all right. our thanks to ines breaking it all down following a historic day on capitol hill. ines, thank you. meanwhile, president trump is making headlines for something he said last night at that rally in michigan about a congressman who died this year. >> he took a swipe at the late congressman john dingell of michigan after learning that his widow congresswoman debbie dingell voted in favor of impeachment. >> john would be so thrilled. he's looking down. he'd be so thrilled. thank you so much, sir. i said, that's okay. don't worry about it. maybe he's looking up. i don't know. >> the president seeming to imply that dingell is looking up from hell. his widow responded tweeting to the president, i'm preparing for the first holiday season without the man i love.

you brought me down in a way you can never imagine, and your hurtful words just made my healing much harder. we turn now to a major new ruling on the affordable care act otherwise known as obamacare. a federal appeals court has ruled the law's individual mandate requiring all americans to have health insurance is unconstitutional. now, despite the ruling the affordable care act will stay in place for now because the appeals court did not address whether this law can legally exist without the mandate. the court has asked a texas judge who first ruled on the matter to be more specific. the issue is eventually expected to reach the supreme court. a developing story from texas overnight where a shooting outside a busy mall in san antonio left four people wounded. police say a group of men jumped out of a car and started firing their guns. people in the area were sent scrambling to take cover. >> inside the mall there's people hiding in gamestop. >> i got one witness in my car. i also got some shell casings right out here. i need another car to try to block off. i'm gonna have my witness in the

car but i have some shell casings. >> one victim is in critical condition. police are now searching for five suspects. there is no word on a motive for the shooting. and in oregon a 20-year-old man is in custody after a stabbing spree in a portland suburb. police say it started as a robbery attempt at a wells fargo bank. two women were stabbed in the bank. one was killed. police say the suspect then stabbed two more people before stealing a car to escape. he now faces murder and other charges. now to new details about the massive highway pileup in central pennsylvania. look at this video. at least two people were killed. dozens injured on this stretch of interstate 80. look at all of that. snow squalls created whiteout conditions blinding drivers. 20 tractor trailers and 10 other vehicles ended up crashing. more than 40 people were sent to local hospitals. >> i was in the end of all the crashes. actually i had time to stop, and i stopped before the truck in front of me, but the truck

behind me didn't stop, and he smashed my car. it's a miracle. i mean if you see my car how it's a total loss, nothing left of it. >> drivers there were stranded for hours, but parts of the highway have now re-opened. a fast-moving snow squall also swallowed parts of new york city and was captured in this time-lapsed video. it packed powerful winds and dumped half an inch of snow in just a few minutes. the entire squall was only ten miles wide. meanwhile, much of the eastern part of the country is waking up this morning to the coldest air of the season. let's take a look at your thursday forecast. good morning. we don't have to worry about snow across the northeast for our thursday, but it's going to be frigid from start to finish. accuweather real feel temperatures through most of the morning in the single digits below zero across the region. we'll have some sun, which warms

we're back with a state of emergency being declared because of historic wildfires burning near sydney, australia. air pollution levels range from poor to hazardous there. it comes as australia faces record heat. tuesday was the country's hottest day ever averaging 105 degrees. a radio host in denver has been fired for the controversial comment he made on air. chuck bonniwell was speaking about the impeachment of president trump when he said this to his co-host. >> you're talking about the never-ending impeachment of donald trump. you know, you wish for a nice school shooting to -- >> no, don't even say that. no, don't even say that. don't call us. chuck didn't say that. >> which no one would be hurt. >> the station called the comment inappropriate. bonniwell says it was meant as a joke and that he's sorry it wasn't received that way. seven presidential candidates will be on stage tonight for the last democratic debate of the year. those taking part are former vice president joe biden,

senators bernie sanders, elizabeth warren and amy klobuchar, mayor pete buttigieg, businessman andrew yang and billionaire tom steyer. that debate will be held in los angeles. a consumer alert if you're looking to get a puppy this holiday season. the better business bureau is warning that scams are on the rise. more people are going online to buy their pets but are getting duped by scams that ask for cash to be paid up front and then fail to deliver the puppy. consumers are being urged to always see the pet in person and go to the website petscams.com to see if a seller is legit. also never pay for pets using money wire services. a massive fire has destroyed a yacht reportedly owned by singer marc anthony. tmz reports no one was on board that 120-foot vessel when it burst into flames out of miami marina. it eventually sank. that yacht is believed to be worth $7 million. and in other yacht news, there is new video of this $75 million superyacht that crashed

$300 million. now to the 17-year-old girl under arrest accused of stealing a plane then crashing it. >> it was all caught on surveillance video at a california airport. now investigators are trying to determine how someone who can't even drive a car was able to start a plane. this morning, an investigation is under way in california where police say a teenager somehow hopped an airport's barbed wire fence and stole a plane. >> we had an aircraft hit the building over there. >> reporter: surveillance video shows the million dollar aircraft pulling a u-turn at fresno yosemite international airport before crashing into a fence and building. police say the 17-year-old girl managed to start one engine and get the plane moving despite not even knowing how to drive a car. >> the aircraft never became airborne, and there was no fire. >> reporter: but the crash did cause substantial damage to the plane and maintenance building. >> the aircraft began to move and pivot and crashed into a building and a fence on airport property. >> reporter: authorities say the teen found by police sitting in

the pilot's seat and wearing the pilot's headset seemed disoriented and had resisted arrest. >> the fresno international airport is currently working with the faa, the fbi and other authorities to investigate this incident. >> reporter: a motive is unclear but terrorism is not suspected. authorities say the plane never took off and no commercial flights were ever in danger. the big question now is how did she know how to start the plane? experts say she has to have some understandings of how planes work. and the teen's mother says her daughter ran away from home earlier this week and this was the first time she had seen her in days. a former american airlines mechanic at miami airport has pleaded guilty to sabotage and admits to tamering with the key system on a plane scheduled to fly from miami to the bahamas. the plane's takeoff was aborted moments before departure. he told investigators he wanted to sabotage the plane so he could get overtime for making repairs. the plea deal means he'll avoid a maximum of 20 years in prison.

a 4-year-old new jersey girl has received a special badge of honor after helping to save her mother's life. isla glasser knew exactly what to do when her mom passed out. she called 911, explained what happened and gave the dispatcher her address. >> are her eyes open? >> no. >> where in the house are you? >> um, i'm on -- um, i'm in -- i don't know. >> are you in the kitchen? in the bedroom? in the tv room? >> i'm in the kitchen. >> when police arrived, isla even shooed away the family's dog and unlocked the front door. her mom says she handled herself with utter control and composure. >> one minute i was thinking i had to call my doctor and the next minute i'm laying on my kitchen floor, so he immediately reassured me, and he told me that my 4-year-old dialed 911 and that she did good. >> she did very good. police presented isla with a

three hours ago when a car slammed into the business and look at the mess left behind. the entire car practically inside of this business here in san jose. again, causing a big mess overnight. we do know that at least one person was transported to the hospital. we believe that to be the driver. at this point, the car has also been towed away from the location. a big mess left behind. lots of glass until thrown all about the business that has to be cleaned up before they can think about reopening. you can see some transmission oil down below and the wood boarding up the business. thankfully this happened overnight when this business was not open and more people were actually inside here. a big mess to clean up for this cash one in san jose. one person transported to the hospital. we don't know why the driver lost control of the vehicle and it wound up inside of the busine
