and so you see the green on our map, that means that everything is moving on our roads which is good news, but also this gray and white behind me, that is the fog. so visibility is low. a live look at the bay bridge, except you can't see anything, foggy conditions there. and there is a fog advisory this morning. san jose, 280 looking good. and let's check in on more drive times. tracy to dublin, 32 minutes. everything else looking good. happening right now, airports across the bay area are gearing up for the holiday travel season. >> a live look at sfo where it is expected to be one of the busiest days for holiday travel and also parked in san jose. and that is where julian glover is this morning. >> reporter: yeah, they are saying this 18 day travel period from today through january 6 of the new year will be one of the

busiest periods the entire year, some 850,000 people expected to make their way through san jose international and it looks like we have about half of them here already. this is at the southwest counter, and this has picked up practically out of no where. but no delays cancellations this morning. but it can also be the other airports across the country. and this is the misery map on flight a wear.com. we're looking at 110 delays so far across country with four cancellations through 6:00 a.m. so not too bad. some of the biggest cancellations at jfk, laguardia and also dca. but we got to talk to the people who were here dark and early waiting in line. tsa says get here two hours early, and you won't believe how early this guy got to the airport.

open until 6:00 p.m. tuesday christmas eve. if you prefer shopping online, kohl's is offering free in-store pickup. most can be ready within two hours. that is convenient. new video in of a shooting investigation in the south bay on matterhorn drive. police say one person was shot, the victim has life-threatening injuries and they have not been identified. so far no arrests. we'll keep tracking this story. a new report finds that pg&e was not fully prepared for the widespread power shutoffs. the report says that the utility experienced the same communication and coordination problems as last year that affected millions of customers. the a.p. says that pg&e was slow to share information that local

emergency responders really needed and that the sound quality of conference calls was bad enough that participants couldn't understand the updates. building a better bay area takes time and now we have proof that patience can pay off. abc 7 was in oakland last year at the ground breaking of an afford only housing development. and today the first tenants will be moving in. demetrius allen says this christmas will mark a new beginning for him and his two young sons. >> as gifts and stuff goerks we might n go, we may not is have a lot of gifts, but this house is gift enough. >> developers say it is a mixed income community with veterans, families and formally homeless people living and working in the area. rents vary, but they will not charge more than 30% of the resident's annual income. we want it hear your ideas about being a better bay area. share them by joining our group

on facebook. the last suspect charged in a murder is now a free man. yesterday the district attorney announced he will not be retried. he was one of three suspects arrested in the 2016 murder case of keith green. a jury acquitted tiffany lee last month and the third suspect is the only one who is still in custody because he cut a plea deal. he may be released next month. larry reed is recovering after escaping gunfire. he was at the east oakland senior center for his annual turkey give away and he accepted outside and shots rang out. reed fell while running for cover. officers had to pull him to safety. >> he got back up strong but in a lot of pain and went back in there and lifted some pretty heavy turkeys and hams and was not going to miss the

opportunity of serving and giving back. >> oakland mayor says that reid has one of the largest hearts in all of oakland and she wishes him a speedy recovery. he we'we're tracking the ste over impeachment. nancy pelosi refusing to send the articles of impeachment to the senate. >> good morning. democrats are hoping to have witnesses testify as part of president trump's senate trial but republicans have already rejected that request. so hoist speaker nancy pelosi is hoping threatening to possibly delay president trump's trial could give her leverage. history put on hold, president trump becoming just the third president in u.s. history to be impeached, but house speaker nancy pelosi is now refusing to take the next steps saying that she won't send articles of impeachment over to the senate until majority leader mitch mcconnell reveals what te trial will look like.

>> our founders when they wrote the constitution, they suspected that there could be a rogue president. i don't think that they suspected a rogue president and rogue leader in the senate at the same time. >> reporter: democrats are pushing to hear from four witnesses that the white house had blocked from testifying but mcconnell has already rejected that request indicating that he wants a speedy trial and that he is working in total coordination with the white house. democrats are hoping threatening to possibly delay trump's trial will give them leverage, but for now at least republicans aren't biting. >> looks like the prosecutors are getting cold feet in front of the entire country. and second guessing whether they even want to go to trial. >> reporter: president trump responding on twitter writing pelosi is afraid to present impeachment to the senate. lawmakers were hoping to have the senate trial begin the week of january 6, but that will all depend on speaker pelosi.

here are the 7 things to know. this morning grief counselors will be at mark day school after a young boy died in an accident on the playground. officials have not said how l g would the boy was or what happened. exams resume after a bomb threat from the main campus yesterday. the school says the public is safe. and here is a live look at the airport where the holiday travel rush is on. officials say about 850,000 passengers are expected to go through that airport from now until january 6.

tomorrow. so we'll get the tail end of this system. as you see as we head through today, just an increase in clouds. tomorrow morning waking up rather cloudy, patchy fog. by 8:00, we start to see rain moving into the north bay which could be heavy at times. and by 7:30, it is moving into the east bay and south bay and just scattered showers on sunday. so rainfall amounts saturday mainly along the coast and up in the north bay and then the rest of us, a third of an inch to two-thirds sunday. the 7 day forecast, 1 for saturday, 2 for sunday, i took the storm i think pampossible s mond away mochb a monday and tuesday fwp. and we do have a foggy commute. so take your time because advise and is low in many areas. a live look at the golden gate bridge, moving smooth.

and you can see at street level, very low visibility. same thing with discovery bay. and this is the way it looks there south bay toward the western span of the bay bridge, that is how thick the fog is here. temperatures cooler this morning, mid to upper 40s. going will be gone by noon and high clouds and sunshine this afternoon. upper 50s to low 60s at 6:00. and low to mid-50s at 7:00. so we get a break from the rain today. but it comes back this weekend. more on that next. and so far we really are just looking at fog impacting your morning commute. no major issues as far as the traffic is concerned. so people coming through the al take month pass there, north the bay, you will see the fog. and there is a fog advisory for the bay bridge. and you can hardly make out the bridge. a live look at 280 at king street, very light this friday morning and things are looking

good. and this morning counselors will be available to talk to students and staff of a san rafael school, they lost a young boy yesterday who died after some sort of accident at the playground. >> it was such a traumatic event for the school community and for about first responders. it happened yesterday afternoon at mark day school. amy holly fo llyfield is at the. >> reporter: and yeah, members of the staff witnessed the accident trying to help the boy, but he did not survive. the incident happened at 1:00 yesterday afternoon at the mark day school in san rafael. officials have not said what happened, only that it happened on the yard. they also haven't said the boy's age. a firefighter who was on the chasm pus for another event heard about happened. >> it is tragic. being a first responder in the fire department for 30 years, that was our toughest calls that we had. and something like that is just -- it flashes back to times

that were real driifficult call. tough for the parents and everybody involved and first responders. >> reporter: the school released a statement saying that the death much someone so young is devastating for all of us and even more so under these circumstances and at this time of year when we are surrounded by celebrations while we mourn. the extension of the school where this happened will be closed off today counselors will be here on the campus to help everyone deal with their grief. in san rafael, amy hollyfield, abc 7. new developments this morning, finals will resume at san francisco state after a bomb threat. several buildings had to be evacuated yesterday as police did a thorough search. the bomb threat interrupted final exams and the school of nursing's graduation ceremony but the main campus will be open

today. some of the final exams will be rescheduled. for the second time this month, an east bay school is reporting a disturbing incident of racism. >> it happened at mond pened school. the president let parents know that they were getting reports of racial harassment. in one incident in online chat school, a student called an african-american the "n" word. >> i don't think that it is just monte advice take. i think we've evseen it everywhere. >> they are not identifying the students involved and that there are programs to reduce racial animosity. and officials vow to keep working on the issue and that there will be consequences. orinda city council has voted to extend a temporary ban on certain airbnb rentals, it applies to nonhosted rentals

you can see just up in the northwest corner, eureka, wet right now. as we head throughout the day, maybe down to chico, wet weather but everybody else is dry with increasing sunshine and warmth. there is a chance of snow but it is sunday down to 4,000 feet. so could be tough getting home with limited visibility. and check out this shocking video, a truck slamming into a rental car counter. this happened at a florida airport. the white pickup barreled through the cinder block wall. that woman saw it coming and ducked. luckily that woman wasn't hurt, and the driver is okay.

they say the driver was under the influence. >> where did this person come from that they could just -- >> so that was at the sarasota airport. i've never seen anything like that. wild. part of building a better bay area relies on feeling safe in the space that we call home. and in the south bay a nonsploft he nonprofit is helping people find a safe place to sleep. the safeark program has four parking lots and is current i will helping about 80 people. one man who is experiencing homelessness says pooem police a are not knocking on his windows anymore. >> i don't have to worry about being harassed by anybody. >> and no safe park, there is a screening process. the vehicle has to be ren registered. guests have to have a driver's license and insurance and the vehicle has to be able to be

moved. nearly hart of b.a.r.t.'s fare evasion citations are given to black riders. b.a.r.t. surveys show that african-americans only account for 12% of overall riders though. by comparison, white passengers received 18% of citations but comprise 44% of riders. b.a.r.t. says that there are built-in guards to ensure that enforcement is fair and that groups are targeted at the same time withou any regard to their appearance. and you can find all of the b.a.r.t. stories on abc7news.com. keep a close eye on your pg&e bill. prices are expected to go up.

yesterday state regulators a approved a request from several different utilities asking for rate hikes. pg&e estimates that monthly bills will rise 31 cents for people who eceive both gas and electric services. it would bring the average monthly electric bill to almost $114. and the average monthly gas bill to about 55 bucks. and it is the ugly christmas sweater season. and happening today if you are flying with alaska airlines and you are wearing one, you could get an extra bonus. >> both alaska and horizon are gifting a priority boarding upgrade if you wear one while you are traveling today. in today's world where it seems like it is national day of something, today is actually the official national ugly sweater day. >> we're in luck because we're ready to wear ours. >> mine is kind of cute. it is like ugly cute. >> and mine is not? ours are the same sweater. her has minnie on it and mine has mickey.
