is far from over. >> the new head of google gets a raise. this has a lot of zeros involved. >> home for the holiday. making for good tidings at the airport. we'll begin with a developing story. a big rig crash in san jose. as you can see traffic is still a huge mess after a crane crashed across the roadway at 237. some lanes are starting to reopen. good evening. >> thanks for joining us. this mess started this morning the crane over turned at 6:00 a.m. when the driver lost control. by midday, 237 was closed in both directions and brought in a crane to lift the fallen crane. >> it happened on eastbound. near north first street. we are live near the scene. what's going on? >> the progress has been slow.

but steady. this is the scene mind me. crews continue to work on removing that crane. take a good look. first they had to disassemble it. they hauled off the big chunk of it. the clean up is under way. needless to say this is the last thing anybody wanted ahead of the holiday travel rush. >> reporter: tonight as drivers hit the road for the holiday, highway 237 through san jose might be unavailable for several more hours. >> i lived here 19 years. i have never seen this. i never seen anything like this. never. >> just before 6:00 this morning, a crane traveling west on the highway swerved to avoid traffic. but lost control and tipped over and landed in the eastbound lane. it's a miracle nobody got hurt. >> be patient. we're working as quickly as we can. >> the crane crash caused another collision moments later

between a shuttle bus and pickup truck. the drivers of those vehicles suffered minor injury. >> you might be wondering what's the hold up and why is it taking so long to clear the scene. as a result of the initial crash, at least 100 fwgallons o fuel and oil spilled on the highway. eastbound lanes are still impacted as they work to disassemble the crane. >> we were able to get traffic shut down and stopped. and start moving the vehicles that became stuck. >> traffic spilled onto side streets throughout the day causing back up for drivers. >> some good news. two of the westbound lanes of the highway 237 are now back open to traffic. those lanes reopened moments ago. bad news however the eastbound lanes of the highway aren't

expected to reopen until about 8:00 or 9:00. those times are subject to change. >> okay. what a headache. new development a sheriff deputy has been fired after the sheriff reviewed this body cam video. which he calls quote extremely troubling. the deputy used a controversial neck restraint on a man after a chase. the man seen here david ward died. we have more on the development. >> california state law requires that police agencies are e lease body cam video like this. you're watching the sheriff deputies at the end of a chase on november 27. they were trying to arrest a suspect who they thought had stolen this car. they at no time know behind the wheel, 57 year-old was the rightful owner. today the sheriff announced what

says repeated in the video from november 27. with david ward on the ground. we see and hear the deputy reaction. when he learns for the first time that ward did in fact own the car. >> he says oh well. and of course david dies seconds later. oh well. is that the person you want in your community? >> i would say it was disturbing. >> no word whether he will face criminal charges. for what happened that night. there is more than one body cam video. it may reveal more about what happened. meantime, police are conducting the investigation. >> a man pleaded guilty today to wire fraud and money laundering charges in connection with with a 25 to $65 million student low repayment scheme. we have covered this story since last year. and join you live. >> the big question what if

anything this means for consumers who still owe thousands of dollars on their student loans and believe the money they were paying was going to the loans. as part of the plea agreement, ceo admitted he instructed employees to follow misleading sale scripts so people wouldn't fully understand what they were paying for. victims we spoke with said they believe they were consolidating student loan debt and receiving forgiveness. they were paying for document preparation service and financial education program. they later discovered they were further in debt. because they stopped making payments. he's out on bond and sentenced in march. in the news room for the i team. >> we have new details on the investigation into a tragic accident that claimed the life of a 7 year-old boy as he played at school.

when a section of the fence fell. we're on the story. >> our hearts go out to the family and everybody involved. it's really tragic. >> flowers were left on the playground of the school. a private school where a 7 year-old boy was playing during the lunch hour thursday. police say he was critically injured by a zebs of the schoolyard fence. >> it's a manual fence that slides on a track. we're investigating to find out how and why this happened. at some point the fence came off the track and hit the boy. >> school staff rushed to remove the child from the fence and called 911. sadly he died later at the hospital. the school flag was lowered in memory of the boy. >> the school made grief counsellors available to students and staff friday. police and firefighters who responded had their own debrief. >> we're human. and it's a horrible thing to

deal with. everybody's heart is going out to the family. >> in statement the head of the school said the safety of the students is so important to all of us. we want to understand how this could have happened. the section of campus where this occurred will be closed off. at a time of joy and happiness this campus is grieving. >> shifting gears a bit to the weather. much of the bay area saw heavy fog. you can barely see the buildings. in san francisco this morning you can see the sales force tower peeking above. we will see changes. meteorologist joining us with more on that. >> so we have the fog this morning. clouds are stacked up tonight. you will notice there's no rain. that's changing as we head towards tomorrow night. here's the system. the wider perspective. the moisture and the energy is in the pacific northwest. we'll get the southern end of the storm. the sometime line tomorrow

the north bay. pockets of rain. orange and yellow. by 4:00 a.m. sunday we are seeing most of the widespread rain. it will be moderate at times. and pushes through. 7:00 a.m. wet roadways. after that just scattered showers for the sunday before it winds down. in terms of rainfall totals this is going to be wetter spots with over an inch. for the rest of you, lighter amounts some places like concord. a quarter of an inch of rain. mountains turns to snow. winter weather advisory 4,000 feet. 10:00 p.m. sunday. a foot of snow expected and the advisory above 4,500 feet on sunday. temperatures tomorrow morning in the 40s. tomorrow afternoon a cooler day. temperatures will be in the 50s. a look at the 7-day forecast. level 1 late tomorrow night. that storm moves in. a wet and windy first half of the sunday. a short break on monday.
