tastes asyou'll see. now employees are sharing security video with employees and with abc 7 news reporter melanie woodrow. >> reporter: thousands of dollars worth stolen. sophisticated shoplifters managed to get past employees at several stores this month saying they were visiting fro paris. in the surveillance video you can see them stuffing jackets worth thousands under their outer wear. >> the pros are so good they can do it in front of you and you would never know you were being picked. >> reporter: no masks with, no smash and grab. the crooks according to employees were actually quite engaging. employees couldn't tell anything was missing until they were gone. >> it does make me ill. >> reporter: the next day two of the three hit up sweden spart which sells vintage jewelry, purses and scarves it procures

the property owners to negotiate with the homeless women or face possible seizure of that property. today an alameda county court issued a tentative ruling against the group, mothers for housing who moved into the house last month. the court denied all the claims for the women and issued notice of eviction they have to go. the group said they're drawing attention to the homelessness crisis. president trump responding to north korea after its government issued a warning of a christmas gift to the u.s. if there isn't a change in sanctions. u.s. military officials expect kim jong-un will order tests of long-range missiles capable of reaching the united states. kim jong-un promised president trump during their two summits that he would not test those kinds of weapons. since then relations have gone south with the north koreans conducting more short range missile tests this year. president trump is brushing off these threats. >> we'll find out about the

in the south bay donations are pouring in tonight to our lady of one video caught the moment as one of them took a donation box. >> i never thought someone would just come in and be part of the assembly and leave. >> it was just brazen as you can see. tonight someone donated $4,000. another person contributed $1,000 to a gofundme page for the church. the fund-raiser had surpassed it's goal of $5,000. happening now you may see chp patrols. it started at 6:00 tonight and will continue through midnight tomorrow. all available officers will be out for increased enforcement to keep us safe.

they'll be watching for drunk or high drivers in particular. triple-a is once again offering its tipsy tow service of tow up to 10 miles for any drivers not just triple-a members. the free tow begins through 6:00 p.m. tuesday through 6:00 a.m. on new year's day. drivers should call 1-800 triple a help for the free tow. livermore firefighters are congratulating a rookie firefighter on his very first cat rescue today. the livermore fire department received a call about a cat struck in a tree. firefighter mike salazar climbed up the ladder and brought the cat back to its owners. the family of the cat very happy to his work and was then treated to a tour of the fire engine. good job, mike. only on abc 7 ride share

customers in the south bay are coming across a familiar face. father christmas, santa is getting behind the wheel in san jose and made some house calls. amanda delcastillo was there. >> reporter: move over redaufl, he's making seven trips, checking his sights and ditching the streets and hitting san jose in a tucson. the man behind the beard is john flores. he threw on a santa suit a few days ago with the goal of spreading holiday cheer. in the drivers seat flores delivered, flores posted to a community facebook group about his experience. he explained it caused him nothing to create lasting memories of those who spotted santa behind the wheel. >> people from 6 to 60 would be

also likely some snow. that's the white you see on live doppler 7 so we could wake up to a white christmas. a couple of lightening strikes off the coast right now. it's an indication of this quick moving storm system that's going to brush through while many of us are sleeping. you can see the embarcadero all lit up on this christmas eve. a few drops on the lens as well. what we are tracking over the next couple of days, scattered showers overnight, christmas day will begin wet in the morning but by the afternoon and evening those showers will get out of here and sunny weather it does return on thursday. and a really good stretch of sunshine will happen to finish off the week. right now it's chilly outlet there. 51 that current temperature in the city and in oakland as well. as we take a look at the beach hazard statement that will go into effect early tomorrow morning a risk of rip currents and sneaker waves.

'twas the night before christmas and there's a beast in the house. oakland native marshawn lynch officially signed with the seahawks and will play sunday season against the 49ers, a game that will determine homefield advantage. pete carol said beast mode stayed in shape in hopes an opening would pop up at the right time. and it did. here's the press conference in its entirety today.
