a memorial is growing with candles at the sight where three teenagers died in a crash christmas night. we have a cold night on the way as we track our next storm. we have the details in the accuweather forecast. a petition to stall the so-called rv ban will will willl success. abc 7 news starts right now. flowers and candles are being left in memory of three teenagers killed in a christas night crash. >> two other passengers survived and are hospitalized with major injuries. a car they were in took out a power pole and slammed into a tree. >> we're learning more about two of the victims identified as

16-year-old twin brothers. >> reporter: people in pleasanton that we talked to and surrounding communities say they're not surprised it happened on this road, it's a dark curvy two lane road. but the main talk today was just how awful three young lives were lost. >> right now feels broken. i feel like the best thing we can do right now is to try to come together as one. >> reporter: candles and flowers lie at the base where three teenagers died in a crash christmas night. the collision so violent glass in the car remain embed in the tree. two of those killed as 16-year-old twin brothers, students at dublin high school. >> they were very popular, very well liked. >> reporter: she knew one of the boys killed. >> i know everyone is and wantsp

police are now calling a fatal hit-and-run yesterday morning a homicide. they found a body in the middle of the street and a loaded gun not far away. police later found out there was an argument between two men that night and one man shot the other. the shooter tried to run away, however police say a woman you can see her here sabrina gutierrez, ran over him and killed him. she's a relative of the man who was shot. police arrested her and booked her into santa clara county jail for murder. the town of newman held a vigil over the first anniversary of the death. he was shot and killed by a suspected drunk driver during a traffic stop one year ago today. the suspect went onto lead law enforcement on a 2 1/2 long day manhunt before being captured. his brother still overwhelmed by what happened of course spoke to the crowd tonight. >> your family loves y

my brother we miss you, we love you so much. >> a year later still so painful. hundreds of supporters let ow balloons as you see and led a procession to theewly dedicated flagpole marking where he died. he was 33 years old. a red wood tree fell and killed a man on christmas eve. the 28-year-old man from minnesota was walking with two other people on a marked trail when a 200 foot tall tree pinned him against the trunk. a woman was injured by fallen debris and taken to the hospital. another man hiking with the group was not injured. park rangers call it a very rare and isolated event. we've never heard it happen before there and say recent wet storms may have weakened the dirt supporting the tree. people turn to alternatives to deal with the soaring cost of housing. it's one of the solutions we're

focusing on. in mountain view an ordinance many are calling the rv ban has been successfully challenged. >> reporter: thousands of mounten view residents have helped put the brakes on what many are calling an rv ban. >> that says a lot about people who had enough feeling for this to go and do that. >> reporter: he was previously homeless and is more than 100 to collect nearly 5,000 signatures in just 30 days. in october the council voted 4-3 to pass the ordinance which would have pushed people living in rvs have trailers from most residential streets. >> it's a hard issue down here. people can't afford to live, you know, in these neighborhoods even for myself it's hard. >> the streets are just looking awful with them lined the way they are. i realize even the businesses are impacted. >> reporter: early council meetings were met with

a san francisco woman has a warning tonight for travelers given the option of having a third party app deliver their bags when they don't arrive in sync with their flight. >> it comes after she says more than $4,000 in items disappeared. >> reporter: newly engaged she didn't wait to spend christmas with her fiance's family in

indianapolis, but when thacouple arrived they realized their bags did not. united airlines offered to have a third party vendor deliver the suitcases. >> i went through everything and realized about 60% of my belongings were gone including my most valuable items. >> reporter: more than $4,000 worth of belongings missing including all the christmas gifts for her fiance's family. >> it was heart breaking. i felt terrible to come here pretty much with nothing to give them for christmas. >> reporter: her fiance's bag was also missing 300 to $400 worth of items. the couple went to indiana national airport to speak to the reps directly. >> one of the reps told me i shouldn't have packed such nice things in my luggage in order to avoid this. >> reporter: she posted the story to tace book which her

former colleague saw. her items were also missing. delta ultimately reimbursed her $5,000. >> we kind of started to wonder if it's something that might be happening pretty quick. >> reporter: in e-mailed statements united tells abc 7 news, quote, we are investigating the situation and our customer care team is reaching out to our customer to learn more. where's my suitcase writes, quote, as united airlines investigates this customer's claim it required our company would be in full cooperation as there are multiple touch points in the journey of a checked bag. united tells them it will need 6 to 8 weeks to investigate and that she will need to provide receipts for any item over $100. unfortunately she isn't sure she has all those receipts and that expensive jacket she says that was a gift. and also she's not heard from anybody from where's my suitcase directly since she's reached out

to them. online sales surged this year, and having a shorter holiday shopping season than usual might be one of the reasons why. overall retail spending rose 3.4% between november 1st and christmas eve. online sales grew even more than by nearly 19%. that made up nearly 15% of all retail sales. thanksgiving fell on its latest possible date this year, and that meant there were six fewer traditional shopping days as compared to last year, so we were in all a bit of a rush. master card reports last saturday set a record for being the busiest shopping day in u.s. history. target customers are petitioning the retailer to eliminate plastic bags from their stores. the petition on change.org has thr 450 ing s gl o hal miio roup customers who care will deliver the petition to the company's minneapolis headquarters on news years eve

saying they are hoping for a new year's resolution from target. a new study found physical activity can lower the risk of certain types of cancer. it looked at 750 adults here from the u.s. and australia. researchers found physical activity lowered the risk of seven of them. their colon, breast, kidney, lymphoma and it is easy to see why we had a beach warning. huge waves sending water splashing high into the air. it stretched from the sonoma coast all the way down to the big surf. as you can see it was breathtaking but pretty intense. >> absolutely. and it was nice outside

ramon. 34 degrees and live doppler 7 along with satellite for much of the day today we experienced lots of sunshine, clear skies. tonight we keep those clear skies. southern california dealing with just a messy storm over the past couple of days. that is now pushing out and that means much of california tomorrow will be pretty quiet. overnight tonight we'll see those temperatures continue to fall. most spots under plenty of stars will settle in the low 30s for our starting temperatures. it's a nice looking day, temperatures starting out in the 30s and a lot of sunshine throughout the day. a few high clouds and temperatures in the mid and upper 50s. 56 in the city and the same in oakland and 59 in santa rosa and antioch up to 56 degrees. if you do have to travel across the golden state tomorrow we are precip free. expect dry conditions mainly

sunny skies from north to south, california and temperatures in the 50s to low 60s. so high pressure is in control on our friday and creates those sunny skies. we'll watch as we head towards saturday a cold front will head to the coast. we'll start off with sunshine, increase our clouds and that cold front will move in sunday night and bring back the rain. mostly sunny tomorrow, dry on saturday and we cloud up on sunday and there's a chance sunday night of some showers. a couple could linger but we dry out pretty quickly and new year's eve and new year's day looks dry. tomorrow on good morning america
