dark curvy two lane road. but the main talk today was just how awful three young lives were lost. >> right now feels broken. i feel like the best thing we can do right now is to try to come together as one. >> reporter: candles and flowers lie at the base where three teenagers died in a crash christmas night. the collision so violent glass in the car remain embed in the tree. two of those killed as 16-year-old twin brothers, students at dublin high school. >> they were very popular, very well liked. >> reporter: she knew one of the boys killed. >> i know everyone is feeling this right now and wants to help and do whatever we can. >> reporter: the crash happened around 10:00 p.m. off foothill road, a dark and curvy road in pleasanton. >> it's not an easy road to drive during the daytime.

however police say a woman you can see her here sabrina gutierrez, ran over him and killed him. she's a relative of the man who was shot. police arrested her and booked her into santa clara county jail for murder. the town of newman held a vigil over the first anniversary of the death. he was shot and killed by a suspected drunk driver during a traffic stop one year ago today. the suspect went onto lead law enforcement on a 2 1/2 long day manhunt before being captured. his brother still overwhelmed by what happened of course spoke to the crowd tonight. >> your family loves you. my brother we miss you, we love you so much. >> a year later still so painful. hundreds of supporters let ow balloons as you see and led a procession to the newly dedicated flagpole marking where

he died. he was 33 years old. a red wood tree fell and killed a man on christmas eve. the 28-year-old man from minnesota was walking with two other people on a marked trail when a 200 foot tall tree pinned him against the trunk. a woman was injured by fallen debris and taken to the hospital. another man hiking with the group was not injured. park rangers call it a very rare and isolated event. we've never heard it happen before there and say recent wet storms may have weakened the dirt supporting the tree. people turn to alternatives to deal with the soaring cost of housing. it's one of the solutions we're focusing on. in mountain view an ordinance many are calling the rv ban has been successfully challenged. >> reporter: thousands of mounten view residents have helped put the brakes on what

receipts for any item over $100. unfortunately she isn't sure she has all those receipts and that expensive jacket she says that was a gift. and also she's not heard from anybody from where's my suitcase directly since she's reached out to them. online sales surged this year, and having a shorter holiday shopping season than usual might be one of the reasons why. overall retail spending rose 3.4% between november 1st and christmas eve. online sales grew even more than by nearly 19%. that made up nearly 15% of all retail sales. thanksgiving fell on its latest possible date this year, and that meant there were six fewer traditional shopping days as compared to last year, so we were in all a bit of a rush. master card reports last saturday set a record for being the busiest shopping day in u.s. history. target customers are petitioning the retailer to

eliminate plastic bags from their stores. the petition on change.org has gathered over 450,000 signatures since it was posted in january nearing its goal of half a million. the group customers who care will deliver the petition to the company's minneapolis headquarters on news years eve saying they are hoping for a new year's resolution from target. a new study found physical activity can lower the risk of certain types of cancer. it looked at 750 adults here from the u.s. and australia. researchers found physical activity lowered the risk of seven of them. their colon, breast, kidney, lymphoma and it is easy to see why we had

overnight tonight a sunny stretch continues not only tonight but into saturday as well. our next storm will arrive on sunday but right now looks like minimal rainfall to finish out the weekend. right now it'sllhi c spots. we're in the 30s in a couple of locations. 38 in palo alto, the same in san ramon. 34 degrees and live doppler 7 along with satellite for much of the day today we experienced lots of sunshine, clear skies. tonight we keep those clear skies. southern california dealing with just a messy storm over the past couple of days. that is now pushing out and that means much of california tomorrow will be pretty quiet. overnight tonight we'll see those temperatures continue to fall. most spots under plenty of stars will settle in the low 30s for our starting temperatures. it's a nice looking day, temperatures starting out in the 30s and a lot of sunshine throughout the day.

a few high clouds and temperatures in the mid and upper 50s. 56 in the city and the same in oakland and 59 in santa rosa and antioch up to 56 degrees. if you do have to travel across the golden state tomorrow we are precip free. expect dry conditions mainly sunny skies from north to south, california and temperatures in the 50s to low 60s. so high pressure is in control on our friday and creates those sunny skies. we'll watch as we head towards saturday a cold front will head to the coast. we'll start off with sunshine, increase our clouds and that cold front will move in sunday night and bring back the rain. mostly sunny tomorrow, dry on saturday and we cloud up on sunday and there's a chance sunday night of some showers. a couple could linger but we dry out pretty quickly and new year's eve and new year's day looks dry. tomorrow on good morning
