in the south bay, a twist to porch piracy. crooks are now taking off with home security cameras. we'll tell you why tonight's game is extra special to them. >> i'm tracking a storm for your weekend. i'll let you know if it's going to impact your travel plans or holiday plans coming up. it took teamwork to help deliver a baby boy over a 911 call in vallejo. abc 7 news starts right now. thank you for joining us tonight. i'm ama dates. >> and i'm dan ashley. in the south bay beyond stealing packages porch pirates are starting to swipe home security cameras. >> surveillance video has caught them in action. amanda del castillo is live in san jose hill neighborhood which is being targeted by criminals. >> reporter: we spoke with neighbors impacted by this growing crime trend.

a marriager concern what are these crooks doing when the cameras come down? many living on communications hill in san jose have their front door covered, security cameras capturing any movement. for some residents capturing the last moments being mounted outside. >> it makes sense, it's easy to get rid of them easy. >> reporter: the twist to porch piracy. his home was targeted in this new trend. watch as someone approaches his front door, hoodie up, face covered, his camera gone in a matter of seconds. >> did they take it so they could do something later without being on camera. >> reporter: he and his wife were home when the thief hit at 2:00 p.m. they had the camera up and untouched for about a year before the incident. >> it was wireless so i knew someone could take it but i figured it's wireless and they'll be on camera, we'll get them. he's strolling along with what

appears to be some sort of rod, long enough to access any object that might be out of the way. the guy had a sellify stick or whatever it with a magnet and got it and walked away. >> i guess we've got some precautionary stuff we've got to take care of. >> reporter: doing what they can to prevent becoming a victim from this growing crime trend. >> you've got to wai and see what comes on. >> reporter: the cameras being targeted are those outdoor stand alone security cameras. this is different from those attached doorbells with video capabilities. >> thank you, amanda. in the east bay a candlelight vigil is planned to hawn fr three teenagers killed in a car accident in pleasanton on christmas. they were all dublin high school students. two other teens are in the hospital with major injuries.

mourners have been gathering at the memorial sat up at the crash site on foothill road. >> they always made you smile, and they were just great people be around. and their spirits just uplifted everybody. >> a vigil will take place at dublin high school saturday at 5:00 p.m. the dublin unified school district will have grief counselors available when students come back to campus. the chp is investigating the cause of the crash. >> two drivers walked away uninjured after a accident left a truck up ended. the woman involved in the crash says she has no idea what hppened. >> i was driving in the fast lane and honestly i just lost control of my car. i don't know what happened. it was the craziest thing ever. it was really frightening. >> the truck landed cab first along northbound interstate 680 but all the truck driver

remembers is seeing the car coming toward him. >> and that's when i probably tried to avoid it and did it him me or not i don't remember, and that's when i start feeling i was flipping over left and then right and i tried to stay alive. >> the highwaypatrol kept two northbound lanes closed for about two hours while the scene was cleared. developing news from hawaii tonight, authorities have found the remains of six of the seven people aboard a helicopter that crashed at the top of a mountain. the chopper was on its way back from a sightseeing tour of the coastline. it was carrying two groups including two children and the pilot. officials say there's no indication that anyone survived. the search for the seventh victim will resume tomorrow. traffic is moving again along the grapevine section of interstate 5 north of los angeles. that's after a christmas day storm forced its closure because

of the very dangerous conditions you're looking at. drivers have been stuck for 36 hours before the chp today escorted the first group of vehicles out. one driver died in his truck during the closure. investigators are looking into the cause of his death. new at 11:00, a masseuse has been arrested by police. investigators say they've been working the case since tonight this is what's left of an oakland warehouse after it was destroyed by fire, but there were still people inside at the time of the fire. here's a view of the damage from drone view 7. 8 people inside were able to escape. neighbors have been telling local politicians the property is a problem. according to the oakland fire department property ozreg tagged

in both april and november. the owner continued charging people $10 a night to sleep on a couch inside the warehouse. >> he was trying to get money from people who didn't have any money basically. firefighters haven't yet determined the cause. they say it could take a while because the amount of debris and damage. it was just a little over a year ago, but camp fire decimated the town of paradise. by the time it was out it would go down as the deadliest and most destructive wildfire on record in the state. the rebuilding process has taken on many forms including sport. the warriors have provided financial help through an online auction but tonight the high school basketball team got a special treat. abc 7 reporter louis penna was there. two hours right before the warriors faced the phoenix suns 35 high school basketball players walked in ready to take

boy, what a story this is out of vallejo tonight. a woman went to visit her pregnant granddaughter yesterday who started complaining her back hurt. >> it turns out the baby wasn't about to wait and the grandmother called 911 and the dispatcher walked everyone through delivery. >> and within six minutes the baby arrived. >> female 7 months pregnant possibly going into labor. >> reporter: vallejo fire engine 25 rolled out to a call of a baby being born thursday night. >> she said she couldn't stop pushing so i felt like oh, we're going to have a baby. >> reporter: susan hart has been a 911 dispatcher for many years and guided the family on what to do before paramedics arrived. >> it was oh, just a flood of emotions going through us like okay i'm excited, i can i've got to stay calm. >> reporter: her granddaughter

was the one in labor. they put dispatch on speaker. >> they were just so great. they seemed so calm considering. >> i put my hand down and i mean just out of nowhere the baby starts popping out and i thought oh, my god, no. >> reporter: the 911 call came in at 8:03. 6 minutes later this baby boy made his grand entrance at 4 pounds and 12 ounces, born almost two months early. >> she hasn't had a baby shower, she hasn't had anything yet. >> reporter: corla says a name hasn't even been picked out yet. a paramedic who cut the umbilical cord crossed their minds. >> the mom asked who cut the umbilical cord and what's their name. >> reporter: the family says they are grateful for the first responders who helped deliver a small but healthy baby boy. >> i commend them for everything they do on a daily basis. i did it once and that one time

is enough for me. >> lauren martinez, abc 7 news. democratic presidential candidate elizabeth warren was in san jose today. she says she wanted to spend time with child care providers to get a first-hand look at the issues that they face. the senator has proposed universal child care for everyone under the age of 6. warren says she supports california's new law that gives child care providers the option to unionize starting january 1st. governor newsom signed that measure in september. new at 11:00, the popular music streaming service spotify says it'll no longer run political advertisements, but this does not include third party content such as podcasts that are not owned by spotify. this move follows the lead of twitter which announced at the end of october it was banning political ads. tonight we have your first look at the new mars rover. nasta says it's scheduled to land on the red planet in 2021.

the mars 2020 rover is so complex it requires a team of 300 scientists to operate. it will search for signs of ancient life including mineral deposits and perhaps even mi microscopic fossils. now to a galaxy far far away. baby yoda has become the latest internet sensation, but we're going to have to wait for a new fix of the little green guy. the show just released its final episode of the first season and it's coming back for a second season but not for a while. the man deloran will return to disney plus in the fall of 2020. lucas film is owned by disney which is a parent kemp of abc 67. christmas may be over but not the life of your tree.

highest peaks may be coated by a light dusting of snow. if you're traveling to tahoe tomorrow you're good to go. there will be plenty of sun, roads should be fine. sunday, snow, so it could be a little slow going. monday some snow showers continuing at least for the first half of the day. and then tuesday if you are traveling for new year's eve it's going to be fine. let's time this out for you. 7:00 a.m. on sunday the rain is still to our north. as we head into 9:00 a.m. it slips into the north bay. this is where the light showers begin by the afternoon, light to moderate intensity between 1:00 and 3:00 p.m., it'll be pretty widespread and then showers will come through the bay area between late sunday night and early monday northern morning, so hang onto the umbrellas during that time period, and if you have travel plans take care on the roeldways.

about this topic of gender reveals. you've seen these gender reveal parties, right? where everyone, they blow up a pink balloon or the uncle jumps out dressed like a-- i don't know, blue giraffe, "hey, it's a boy." well, i knew moses' gender before-- well, me and steven knew, we didn't tell anybody. i mean--okay, let me just be honest here. here we go. so the doctor says to me, "do you wanna know?" and i said, "i always knew i'm gonna have a girl, that i was meant to have a daughter, i know this. come on. whom have we bought these clothes to?" that's what i think in my mind. so the--my son's gonna see this one day. so my doctor says, "okay, i'll tell you and steven together," we go in the office and he said, "it's a boy." i started crying. [laughter] [chuckles] i was like, "no. no. what--they don't have cute boy stuff." but then i'm like, "wait a minute, we're in a modern society, you're not supposed to look at blue, pink, gender, all these things." i'm trying to be hip, i'm 48, but i'm keeping up with the gang.

so nonetheless, i ended up with an adorable little boy that i reveal to all of you, and thank you for your well wishes. but these gender reveal parties have-- i don't think they've gotten out of control, but they've gotten out of control. [laughs] so jenna, i understand you claimed that you started the gender reveal parties back in 2008? - yeah. i was an early adopter to social media. so, i was pregnant 11 years ago and i had a gender reveal party, the first one. i was just very excited, i wanted to up the excitement level of our baby that was coming. and my family had no idea, like, they were very kind of annoyed with me, like, "why are we having this barbecue in the middle of the week? why are we having cake? it's no one's birthday." um, i had baked a pink cake and a blue cake with, you know, the filling-- - right, right. - --and had the ob-gyn

put our gender information into an envelope. ob-gyn was very confused, "why--you wanna know the gender, but why don't you want me to tell you?" and i'm like, "we're doing this party." nobody got it. - and then they got it-- - at the party-- - --at the big party? they got it-- - we cut into the cake-- - right. - --moments changed forever. people were crying, like, "oh, my god," they all got it. - but i understand now-- - like, as soon as i saw the icing. - --the big controversy here though, now, jenna, who in-- says she invented the gender reveal parties, you now say you regret it, that this is a regret, why? - you know, um... well, actually, what happened was, i have three daughters, i have three girls. and one christmas morning, a couple--2013, my daughter--she's very girly, she opens up her present, and it's legos. and she starts crying-- the middle one. she starts crying, "mommy, why did santa claus bring me a boy toy?" - oh. - and i'm like, "honey, what are you talking about? what do you mean a boy toy?" and she says, "well, it's not pink." and it clicked with me, if it's not pink, it's not for her. i don't feel like she's getting those messages from me, i mean, i made her nursery

in yellow and blue, but she gets it from society, and that's what she's gotten, walking down the toy aisles. she understands, "if it's not pink, it's not for me, and that's not okay with me." - and so now you regret it, and you would not do it again in hindsight? - i actually never did it again. after that, i put it in my blog, it got into a magazine, and the party went crazy from there, and i never did another gender reveal. - that is so interesting. i know you-- - it's not--i do have a plot twist for you. - oh, okay. go. - the plot twist is, my older daughter wear suits. - oh. well, i don't think-- it hints the reason i have on a suit, i don't think there's anything... tell your daughter she's in good company. [laughs] but that is interesting, but you-- - it's a pant suit nation. - i like suits, i like pants, that's why i have one. and i could tell you, i remember when i first started in this business, i had a news director whose name i won't name, but basically, he did not want me to wear a suit because they thought it was more feminine for me to be in a dress. i happen to like both, but to have someone tell me was whack, and he's not in business anymore. but-- [laughs] that was so petty of me. but never the--
