police say the crooks hit six houses in one night. >> we've never had six in one night. >> reporter: police say this burglary crew was experienced likely looking for homes dark and appeared to be unoccupied. once inside they searched for two things -- >> specifically jewelry and cash. >> reporter: how they broke in was always the same. >> and in all the cases they either smashed the rear slider or they smashed a window that's connected to a door. >> wow, they're inside? >> yes. >> whoa. >> reporter: we showed the security video to neighbor andrew yu. >> around here we haven't seen any break-ins recently -- well, ever. >> reporter: police say a witness saw the suspects leaving one house in a dark colored mercedes with paper plates. >> we go away for christmas, but i had my alarms on so, yeah, kind of shocking. >> reporter: homeowner making sure she's not the next victim. >> i think lights do help a lot. if i'm away for than a few days

i check my cameras when i'm away to see any suspicious activities, cars driving by. >> reporter: while police search for clues and the suspects, they tell homeowners alarm systems, surveillance cameras, even a big dog are deterrents for thieves and leaving lights on even when you're not home not a bad idea either. in san ramon, cornell barnard, abc 7 news. president trump is blaming iran for a breach in the u.s. embassy compound in baghdad. he's now calling on iraq to protest the embassy. dozens of people broke in this morning. the iraqi shiite militia supporters smashed the main door and set a reception area on fire leading to tear gas and sounds of gunfire. this comes after deadly air strikes by the u.s. last week that killed 25 fighters and injured more than 50 people. according to the associated press a man on loudspeaker told the mob not to enter saying, quote, the message was delivered.

it again. >> a new texas law passed just a few months ago allows people to bring guns into houses of worship. this particular church had trained for an active shooter. abc news reporter will be live with the latest on "good morning america" at 7:00 a.m. right after abc 7 mornings. the man accused in the hanukkaharty attack in new york may be linked to a previous unsolved stabbing of a rabbi. law enforcement sources tell abc news investigators are trying to figure out if thomas is connected to the crime in the same area last month. this morning he's facing hate crime charges, accused of wounding five people with a machete saturday night am investigators say thomas had handwritten journals containing anti-semitic references. his family says he has a history of mental illness. this morning our ongoing commitment to help build a better bay area is taking us to a cleanup effort going on in concord. >> it's one of the many issues we see when it comes to tackling homelessness.

caltrans crews cleaned up. neighbors have been complaining for a while now about the mess saying that there's now a homeless encampment, garbage and illegal dumping. the sales manager says something needs to be done. >> there's needles, bottles, blankets, food. i do care but, you know, at the same time, i mean, i have a job to do. >> they can tell us to leave, where are we going to go to? if there was, we'd be there. not all of us choose to be homeless. >> commuters have expressed fears about going there to use the park and ride, but the homeless who live there say it is the only home they have. another crucial piece in our work to build a better bay area is lending a hand. a local library actually lending out kitchen appliances. starting this spring the berkeley public library is expanding its tool lending library program so you can check out blenders, instant pots, toasters, slow cookers and much more. the library says it decided to

the new year is expected to bring some monstrous waves to the bay area's coastline. waves in excess of 35 feet are expected to break near mavericks in san mateo county tomorrow night, so you're seeing what sky 7 saw yesterday when it flew past. as you would expect surfers really excited about this. a lot of them are flying in to try to catch some waves, but we want to warn you to be careful. the national weather service is warning of dangerous sneaker waves that could pull unsuspecting people out into the ocean. >> got to be careful for sure. and now to the south bay where a woman recently took to twittory describe a first date gone terribly wrong. >> so after sharing her experience other people are talking about the dating trends they would like to leave behind in the new year. here's abc 7 news reporter amanda del castillo. >> reporter: to prepare you for the story we have to get through a few of today's dating terms.
