neighbors are conducting a vigil. julian glover has more. >> reporter: this morning two of the suspects have been arrested thanks in part to surveillance video. they could be appearing in court today. witnesses tell us the person snatched the laptop from the 34-year-old victim, another held the door open and the other drove that getaway car that dragged and killed the victim. at means a third suspect is still out there. outside of this starbucks, wither it all happened, there's a growing memorial of flowers and post-it notes with messages of love left behind for a man many of the people who came here to pay respects didn't even know, but to his friends he meant so much more. >> he liked the outdoors.

he actually brought a lot of us together a lot of times for activities. he was a good friend. really kind guy. >> one of the most tragic details of the story, the victim was killed on new year's eve, which was his birthday. his friends found out about his death in the most awful way. his friends were gathered at his apartment for a joint birthday new years celebration, and that's when they got the call from police as they waited at his door that their friend was killed earlier that morning. those people had no clue. outside of the starbucks, you can see this growing memorial with so many messages of love, some of the post-it notes saying sorry for your loss. i hope you're in a better place. the victim's family asking abc7 news not to release his name or identity right now we're honoring that request as his cousin flies from new york and his parents fly from china to identify his body. so tragic. reporting live in the montclair

anti government protesters are gathering in central baghdad and have mixed reactions to the death of the top general. not only was the general killed by the deputy commander of an iran-backed militia in iraq was killed. some thought it was a good thing believing it would be helpful in eliminating corrupt parties destroying iraq. others say the united states and iran should settle their problems outside of iraq. retaliation of the air strike will likely not just affect the united states but israel as well. the senate is back in session today after the holiday break. majority leader mitch mcconnell is expected to speak. he may address the house impeachment of president trump. speaker nancy pelosi has not yet sent the senate the two articles of impeachment but most lawmakers will not be returning to washington, d.c. until next week. building a better bay area can sometimes mean making tough decisions. in san carlos city leaders are looking to build more affordable

out the strike without consulting congress. a man is critically injured this morning after he was hit by a car in san francisco. the victim was taken to sf general where he underwent surgery. san francisco police say a white honda driving westbound on fulton street hit a 20-year-old man at 43rd avenue just after 6:00 last night. the honda had the green light. police say the victim was walking in the crosswalk against the light and they're looking into whether he was distracted by his cell phone. police in the east bay say it was self-defense when a dublin resident fired a gun at his ex-girlfriend and another man during an attempted home invasion. the woman died. officers were called to the townhouse late wednesday night. police say the man woke up to banging on his door. when he looked out the window he saw his ex-girlfriend and opened the door. officers say then a man forced his way inside with the resident's ex. >> the male was holding a firearm. at that point, the resident had his own firearm and scared for his life and shot his way out of his residence and then called

police. >> for there to be a shooting here three doors down is very alarming. this a very safe neighborhood. >> the man with the ex-girlfriend was shot once and allegedly fired his gun and is in the hospital. the resident escaped unharmed and is not facing charges. in the north bay, authorities are investigating a deadly crash that happened near the bon air shopping center in greenbrae. sky 7 was over sir frances drake boulevard where the driver of that silver truck died. chp says they came upon the man last night. he was standing between two cars at anderson drive with a tire iron in his hand and glass at his feet. he took off in the pickup truck and officers followed. they believe he ran a red light and a white pick up t-boned his vehicle. the driver of that vehicle suffered minor injuries. palo alto police want to assure the community they are patrolling places of worship

report. amazon is reportedly threatening to fire employees for pushing the company to do more to combat climate change. >> an advocacy group founded by workers says amazon sent letters to members telling them they could be fired if they continue to speak to the media. amazon employees for climate justice has been vocal about the online shopping giant's role in contributing to climate change. amazon vowed to source all of its energy from solar panels by 2030. there's a big policy change coming for uu-haul. starting february 1st, they will no longer hire nicotine users in 21 states. employees hired before that date won't be affected by the policy. the decision is to promote a health-first attitude in the company. the 21 states where the change takes effect legally allows employees to be tested and fired for nicotine but that does not include california.
