credible threats to san francisco. that's according to the police department. but the sf pd is increasing i patrols as a precaution. the golden gate bridge is also asking the public to report anything suspicious. >> situational awareness is extremely important in the nation and across the world so people should be aware of what's going on and especially us here at the golden gate bridge as we are a landmark. >> both the bridge district and sfpd say they monitor the situation closely every day. >> there you can find reaction from bay area persian and arab communities to the escalating violence. new developments two men accused of stealing a man's laptop are now facing charges in his death. >> he went after the suspects but was hit by their get away car and later died. >> lee is charged with involuntary manslaughter and second degree murder. reed is facing a special

view police after authorities say these two men were spotted casing cars thursday afternoon. they're both richmond residents. detectives busted both of them after a citywide search. in their car police say they found belongings from eight victims from auto burglaries that happened sunnyvale and mountain view. cyber criminals have targeted the contra costa library. hackers launched a ransomware attack on its network last week. however, branches are open and you can check out materialwise a library card. the county says personal information has not been compromised. you can find these stories and other headlines on our abc 7 news app. a daring rescue in bakersfield. two deputies rush towards a burning house searching for an elderly couple. affordable house in the

new dramatic body cam video tonight. two deputies rush to try to save an elderly couple from a house going up in flames. abc news correspondent will carr has the story.

>> reporter: dramatic body cam video of two california deputies racing towards a house fire. they found an elderly woman in a wheelchair clutching her dog. quickly get her to safety. >> is there anybody else inside the house? >> reporter: with flames tearing through the roof and cracking like fireworks the deputies race into choking smoke looking for the woman's husband, finally finding him tearing down part of a fence and getting him out of the backyard. >> we got your wife. she's in the front. we knew we had to make a decision and act because the fire was growing fast. >> reporter: deputies say they were just doing their jobs. but the elderly couple unharmed the people who live in that neighborhood say there's no doubt their acs were heroic. the housing crisis is a major challenge for where we live, and it's a key focus of our effort to build a better bay

area. in san francisco finding affordable living solutions as you well know can often be tricky. case in point, plans for a new apartment complex on 15th street and van es avenue in the mission, the budget units would come with a big catch. >> reporter: in san francisco it seems a new project starts every other day but there's still a housing crisis. how do we fix this crisis? >> one of the things we need to put massive amounts of public investment into affordable housing. >> reporter: a kansas based developer says he has an idea. his project 219 market rate housing units. 154 of those above ground microunits, and here's what some might see as a catch, 65 affordable housing pods underground. >> what would you rather have? what's a more pressing concern? place them. for people to sleep or a place to park your bike?

>> reporter: chris elsy owns this parking lot and he wants to use the basement of his projected building to create sleeping pods. each will cost between a $1,0000 to 1075 a month. an december 0th the san francisco planning department sent back those plans to the developer who said the revised version to involve windows of those pods. habitable rooms within developing units or congregate residents shall be provided with natural night by exterior glazedopings. he says he fixed that by adding a courtyard where natural light will hit the pods. we contacted the planning department for comment but are still waiting to hear back. >> a reminder, we want to hear your ideas about building a better bay area. share them by joining our better

bay area group on facebook. new developments, a san jose church struck by thieves before christmas now has raised enough money to hand out toys to hundreds of children this sunday. that wasn't the case after two hooded thieves as you see here walked away with a donation box with more than $2,000 inside. the money was meant to buy toys. thank tuesday a gofundme campaign the church has now raised more than $13,000. >> it's amazing to see how many people actually contributed. it was shocking because we weren't expecting that big of an amount coming in. >> a youth group gathered tonight to sort out the toys and on sunday they'll be given to the kids of the congregation. new developments in lafayette where the city says it's winning a messy fight with wild pigs. trappers have humanity removedod 19 feral pigs from parks and trails. at least two dozen animals tore

>> it's not going to be a lot but we are going to see some. sunset from our santa cruz camera. it was just a stunning one. we did see high clouds which added a little bit of cull door the skies. those high clouds are made of ice crystals. now tonight we're looking at live doppler 7 and waiting for that rain. visibility right now with some heavy fog in santa rosa. a quarter mile, half a mile in fairfield. definitely watch out around petaluma, just over a mile. temperatures at this hour anywhere from 36 degrees at clear lake to 55 in san francisco. so quite a variety. from our san jose camera we're looking at a lovely view from the shark tank. and foggy areas tonight, dense in patches. showers move in overnight, near freezing temperatures for sunday to monday mornings. it's a level one system early tomorrow morning. look for scattered light showers, breezy in the hills. while you're sleeping that shower activity begins at 3:00 a.m. in the north bay and

still primarily in the north bay at 4:00 a.m. but as the morning goes on around 5:30 we start to see some of those showers crossing the central bay and continuing right on through to about 7:00 to 8:00 a.m. it will be just enough to squeeze off those showers or a bit of drizmism really for your afternoon it's going to be dry, a mix of sun and some clouds as well. here's a look that rainfall totals. up to 0.13 around clover dale. looking like temperatures are dropping even more. even though we're expecting the heavier cloud cover, we're still going to see some cold pockets. inland east bay valleys in the upper 30s. 40s, 50s, showers to begin the morning. make sure you have the umbrellas and for the afternoon you'll need those shades. cooler air mass for your saturday. on the subject of cool, you know it's winter when sunday morning you wake up to mid to upper 30s
