>> reporter: it isn't clear what they were afterwards. they didn't have access to the information inside the servers. they locked them down with the ransom ware, and they requested a key in order to open it. there was no dollar amount attached to that key. the library does store names, addresses, phone numbers and birth dates. the e-mail was sent out to residents in the area confirming no evidence of their personal information was compromised. >> i think that's just really appalling, and i hope they put new controls in place. >> reporter: the majority of library services have been restored with the exception of wifi and printing at any of the branches. as to what the hackers were after, that remains unclear. now the sheriff's department and the d.a.'s office are investigating. wake up with us on this

morning. a live look at the golden gate bridge this morning. a mild start to the day. not bad, though. we'll have another check of your forecast in just a moment, but of course you can always get the very latest weather on abc7news.com. the trial for the man accused of stabbing and killing an 18-year-old at the bart station begins tomorrow. last week the lawyer for john lee cowl filed a motion to move it out of the county. she does not think her client can get a fair trial because of all the coverage this case received. his mental competency is also in question. now down to the south bay where we are learning some new details about what led up to an officer involved shooting in a san jose gas station. we cover this all. abc 7 news reporter reports the suspect was allegedly trying to

set fire to one of the gas station pumps. >> a male has driven away with a pump still attached to his vehicle. he has since returned, but now he a lighter in his hand. >> her employee called her at home asking what to do after reporting a driver threatening to set one of the gas nozzles on fire. >> i don't know. that's crazy. >> could have been dangerous. >> yeah. could have been blown up. i don't see why they would target like the gas station on fire. >> the threat of the fire has many nearby residents thankful that the situation didn't escalate. according to police, the man was armed with a metal bar and charged at officers. in an e-mail, san jose police say officers used multiple less lethal options that had no effect. the officers ultimately discharged their firearms in response. >> shots fired. >> a couple of gunshots to the torso. >> the area was littered with

evidence markers including the nonlethal items police described. not only was traffic impacted, but busses weren't stopping at the mall because of the police investigation. >> he lives just blocks away from the gas station. he says he's grateful that the gas station employee was able to shut off the gas. he says his neighborhood and the mall could have been at risk. >> many people are at the sh shopping center. a great grandmother badly beaten has passed away. this 89-year-old was out exercising when she was attacked at a playground. they're now seeking assistance in paying for her funeral. 20 electric scooters stolen

from oakland have been found just south of stockton. wait until you find out how the sheriffs office found him. they arrested timmy mchahn for the threat. he led them straight to them because the gps scooters were left on. that's not the smartest thing i ever heard. he was already on probation, so deputies were really able search the rv in his driveway. all were damaged or altered in some way, shape or fisherman is allegations of illegal crabbing. the man was caught off half-moon bay in july of last year. it was 12 days after the commercial crab ended accordning to s theso d.a.'s of. facing up to $20,000 in penalties. he is allowed to fish again after agreeing not to break the rules. prosecutors can file misdemeanor charges or a civil suit as they did in this case. in recent weeks we have
