iran. all 176 passengers and crew on a ukrainian plane died in a crash shortly after take off in iran as reported by iranian state tv. flight tracking service flight radar 24 said in a tweet that the boeing 737 jet had been in service for about 3 1/2 years. the crash happened near the airport in teheran as the plane was heading to kiev. iranian officials say mechanical issues are the suspected cause of the crash. >> coming back home now, new details tonight. a teenage girl was abducted and sexually assaulted on her way to school in sonoma this morning. it happened near altamira middle skoochlt. police have a suspect in custody but family in the area obviously and understandably are still terrified. abc7 news reporter kate larson is on that story. >> reporter: before 8:00 tuesday morning, a 14-year-old altimira middle school student was walking to class when a car made a u-turn and parked nearby. >> she thought the car might be

lost and the car door swung open and a male subject grabbed her and drug her into the car. she was sexually assaulted. >> reporter: and how was she able to get away? >> i understand that after the asault took place, the suspect drove her back to a different location. >> reporter: in a letter sent home to families from sonoma valley unified school district, the superintendent said the strong brave student came to the office and reported the issue and police arrived quickly. while police were talking to the victim at school, a second incident was reported nearby involving another student. >> same kind of situation. the vehicle pulled up close to her and tried to drag her in the car. and i understand that she fought back and ran away from the car. >> reporter: the sonoma county sheriff's department said every unit in sonoma valley responded to this area near the school. they found the suspect, a man in his 40s inside the car matching the victims' descriptions. >> i do not know if he's a sex offender. i know we had a prior contact with him. >> reporter: parents and

district employees at a school board meeting were disturbed to learn about this type of crime in their neighborhood. >> i would lock my kids down after hearing about this. so i think a lot of parents are going to be on a total alert. >> as big as the world is, you know, stories like this really come home to you and i think that everyone will really take stock in this because kids walk to school here. >> reporter: investigators expect to release more information about the suspect on wednesday. in sonoma county, i'm kate larson, abc7 news. >> in the north bay, this man is freon bail tonight after being arrested following accusations he molested a teenage tennis player he coached. sonoma county sheriff's detectives believe he molested a girl several years ago when she was 15. conway's accuser is now an adult. deputies began investigating the case after the victim contacted them in october. >> new at 11:00, a woman is sharing details about a scary ordeal on a freeway in san jose. she says some sort of an object hit her car and damaged her driver side window.

let's go to the south bay now. some cavibmpbell residents are worried traffic may paralyze their neighborhood if chick-fil-as opens. campbell's planning commission approved chick-fil-a's plans last fall, but an appeal has now been filed. a traffic impact study found chick-fil-a with a track more than 2200 cars to that area every single day. >> if all these cars queued up, you're going to have people doing u-turns, people here in the area that don't know the area because they're coming here for the chick-fil-a. >> campbell's city council will vote on chick-fil-a's proposal in two weeks. we'll let you know. >> in abc7 news's commitment to building a better bay area, we take a look tonight at bart's effort to improve safety by using unarmed ambassadors. the six-month program would strategically place on trains ten unsworn civilians who are part of the police department. they would be the eyes and ears for police, but not physically

intervene. bart's board of directors is set to vote on the program thursday. also thursday, the board is scheduled to vote on a plan to approve wi-fi coverage in the bart system. the project will construct new wi-fi and bluetooth infrastructure and enhance cellular coverage even in underground stations. bart says if approved, a total of four cellular coverage products will be completed in five years. >> new developments on easing the housing crisis in san jose, the city council unanimously approved waiving fees and fines for homeowners who illegally built so-called granny or inlaw units. the amnesty period would last two years and it would provide a pathway to turn accessory dwelling units or a.d.u.s into safe and legal housing. >> yosemite's awani hotel has lost some of its luster with people who borough vied waiting for travelers. aaa downgraded it to three stars. it held four diamond status

here's a look at live doppler 7. we have just some light scattered showers around the bay pthe wettest region right now i santa cruz mountains. i was going to say the peninsula, but not the part of the peninsula that has the dense population. it's over here in the mountain. as you can see we've got just widely scattered light showers over most of the area. right now our abc7 rooftop camera looking across the embarcadero is looking at dry pavement. it's 52 degrees here in san francisco and in oakland. low 50s also at redwood city and san jose. 47 at gilroy, 52 at half moon bay. here's a view from emeryville looking westward. you can see clouds off in the distance there. once again, most of those clouds we're looking at are not producing rainfall. 47 degrees right now in santa rosa. also upper 40s at napa, fairfield and livermore. 51 degrees at both petaluma and concord. one more live view and the pavement does look a bit damp here on the golden gate bridge. these are our forecast features. light rain and showers will continue overnight in a spotty fashion. it will be a partial clearing tomorrow afternoon and this

unsettled pattern will continue into next week. current storm ranks 1 on the storm impact scale. storm of light intensity. we can expect more periods of light rain and spotty showers. less than 500th of an inch of rainfall likely in most areas. here we go with the forecast animation overnight. this pattern will continue until 5:00 a.m. or so. the rain will not be widespread at that time. there may be some wet roadways out there, so bear that in mind if you're a morning commuter. but by 9:00 or so, as the commute is winding down, so will this storm be winding down. there won't be much left to it during the day tomorrow except maybe a little spot here, a little spot there. but there will be flashes of sunshine tomorrow. so our forecast animation for our rainfall totals projects that we'll see under 500th of an inch of rainfall in most locations. overnight lowes will be generally in the low to mid 40s. a bit chillier in our inland valleys. tomorrow's highs will be in the very narrow range basically, mid to upper 50s, 56 or so on the
