the altamont pass, very foggy. it will be that way. i wanted to show you what's going on in the east bay. it hasn't quite made it this far to the east yet. in fact, winds are blowing north to south. more of the fog could leak into the san francisco bay than it did yesterday. we'll have partly sunny conditions, a random shower through noon. mid 50s this afternoon. jobina? >> thank you. good morning. so we'll start off here with a look at the crash we're following out of tracy involving three to four cars. this is westbound 205 before mountain house parkway. injuries have not been reported here. you can see that slowdown. also there's fog in the area through the altamont pass. a sffog advisory in fairfield. and fog in the north bay. the point here is take your time as you head out the door. i'm not seeing much fog on our san rafael camera, showing 101 here, nice and smooth. our overall look at the bay bridge, clear there as well.

metering lights are not on yet this morning. >> thanks. developing now, investigators in sonoma are expected to release more details today about a man accused of an du abducting and sexually assaulting a teenager. this happened yesterday morning near altimira middle school. amy hollyfield has more with what we know. amy? >> i wouldn't be surprised if we see a lot of parents walking their kids here to school this morning, even though an arrest was made, parents are nervous. this is a terrifying story. it happened yesterday morning as a 14-year-old girl was walking to school. she was on her way to altimira middle school when she was snatched and sexually assaulted. the superintendent sent a letter home to parents describing the attack and the brave girl saying a car did a u-turn, the door swung open, the driver grabbed the girl, sexually assaulted her and then dropped her off at another location.

parents and school employees say this is so upsetting. >> as big as the world is, you know, stories like this come home to you. i think that everyone will really take stock in this. kids walk to school here. >> police say the man then tried to grab another girl but she fought and got away. the sonoma county sheriff's department said every unit responded to the area and found a man inside a car matching the description. they arrested him. they will release more information about him later today. at this point, we don't have his name, age or anything about him. reporting live in sonoma, amy hollyfield, abc7 news. at the live desk, president trump will address the nation this morning with an update after iran fired more than a dozen missiles at u.s. troops and coalition forces in iraq. this morning iran's supreme leader says his country slapped

the united states in the face last night. he was referring to the missile strikes in iraq which were done in retaliation to the killing of iran's most powerful commander. a u.s. defense official tells abc news that 10 missiles struck the air base in the anbar province and one hit a base in iraq's kurdish >> thank you. developing news, no one survived the ukrainian plane crash in iran. ukraine's foreign minister said the boeing 737 had iranian, ukrainian, swedish, afghan, british and german nationals on board. jewel jan mcfarland has details of the crash. >> reporter: as the world watches the escalating tensions in the middle east, tragedy in tehran. at least 176 people on board a

passenger plane died when the boeing aircraft crashed shortly after takeoff. the 737 plane left tehran this morning headed to kiev. according to the website flight radar 24, the plane stopped transmitting data at 8,000 feet and crashed just two minutes into the flight. video from moments after the crash show several small fires at the scene. at sunrise emergency crews scoured the debris field. the area covered with twisted metal and large pieces of fuselage in a drainage ditch. the cause of the crash is not immediately known. [ speaking foreign language ] iranian state run news reports the plane had a mechanical issue. this has not been independently verified. boeing released a statement saying they are not aware of the media reports, and they're gathering more information. the plane involved is a 737 but is not a 737 max that was involved in the two crashes in indonesia and ethiopia due to system failures. again, the cause of this crash is under investigation, but

help establish the office and implement key policies. san francisco is ordering an e-scooter company to close after it pretended to have operating permits. the district attorney ordered go x to shut down. the company is accused of using fake permits with the city seal and owing $233,000 in unpaid fines. the city says go x parked the scooters illegally off the embarcadero in the public right of way. the company says it does not fall under the same category as other scooter companies because it partners with businesses for scooter parking. the company has until january 18th to shut down. >> let's look at some neighborhood temperatures. we'll start off over in the east bay, we have that thick fog around brentwood, discovery bay, 37 there. the cool spots.

iran's top general, qassem soleimani. this comes as more american troops have landed in the region. serena marshall is live with more on that >> iran promised revenge and the supreme leader saying these missile attacks is a slap to the face of america. but so far no u.s. casualties have been reported. iran striking back at the u.s. launching more than a dozen ballistic missiles seen here in iranian state tv video in what they've dubbed "operation martyr soleimani," revenge for the u.s. drone strike that killed their top military general, qassem soleimani. the impact of the u.s./iran conflict playing out on iraqi soil seen here, targeting the roughly 1,500 u.s. and coalition forces stationed about 100 miles west of baghdad at al asad air base. that's the same base president trump visited in 2018 as his first to meet troops in the

road in sunnyvale. we're hearing from police that thieves hit up this one block smashing into several cars overnight. we want to get you to some video so you can get a closer look at what they're trying to do. you can see a lot of the consoles are rummaged through. also glove boxes are opened. it appears several things were taken out of the glove boxes. we're hearing around 11 cars were targeted overnight on rockefeller road in sunnyvale. of course this is a crime that happens far too often. we do want to give you some tips. these were released just before the holiday. important reminders here. watch where you park. always important. lock it up when you leave the car. make sure you double check to make sure it's locked and remove those goods. if there's electronics within sight even something as simple as a phone card, that can give the thieves enough information they need to know to target your car. there's a lot of clean-up still

they have not determined what exactly hit her car. state senator jerry hill of n mateo announced a new bill that would ban flavored tobacco products including e-cigarettes in california. 29 lawmakers are supporting the bill as well as the lieutenant governor. last year hill withdrew the bill because of harmful exemptions. 56 cities and counties already banned or placed restrictions on the sale of flavored tobacco products. in the north bay, sonoma county officials have taken an unprecedented step on dealing with a homeless camp getting out of control. in two weeks people could be moved from the homeless camp that's along the joe rodota trail. they could be taken to a parking lot near the sonoma county airport. the county supervisor says level locations are being evaluated as possible temporary shelters. the site could host 60 to 80 people to be housed for up to

eight months, it was picked because of its size and close to public transportation. >> it has to happen fast, within the next two weeks and buy us time as we invest in longer-term solutions. >> the supervisor says the crisis has gotten so big that for the first time sonoma county opened up its emergency operations center. she has not had a chance to meet with the public so she's holding a town hall meeting this friday at the rosalyn library in santa rosa. new developments on easing the housing crisis in san jose. the city council is giving homeowners who have illegally built inlaw units a break. a pilot program will let them bring units up to code without fees or fines. inspectors would determine what work needs to be done. the city will overlook some code violations but serious safety and health concerns would have to be fixed immediately.

improving public transportation is part of building a better bay area. b.a.r.t. directors are set to vote on a plan tomorrow to improve cell phone and wifi service. b.a.r.t. is ready to sign a deal with a third party vendor to build a new wireless system. it would take five years to complete. the agreement could mean hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue for b.a.r.t. >> companies are paying to install their fiberoptic cables within our infrastructure. so we'll get the money realized from that. it's important just to improve the customer experience. >> we don't know how much they'll charge for that wifi service. >> mm-hmm. >> i'm fine with my 5g or whatever. >> you know, sometimes you're right in the middle of something, you go down, lose service. you're like -- it's not worth it? >> nothing is that important. >> okay. >> except my texts to you saying hi, hope you're having a good idea. >> i miss that. you know who sad i would be if i missed that? >> i want one of those. >> oh. >> well -- >> let's talk about what's going on weather-wise.
