thick. continuing to cream into the east bay. hayward, went from unlimited visibility now down to less than a quarter mile. watch out, this will continue filtering into the bay. walnut creek, you can look south into the fog heading towards 24. temperatures in the low to upper 40s. it's milder. mid 50s through noon. mainly cloudy at 4:00. dry and 50 at 7:00. after midnight more rain is on the way. jobina? >> good morning. we just watched a few moments ago this tow truck pull the car that you see here on your screen up from the side -- hillside here. i'm just going to back up so you understand what happened. we are looking at the scene in richmond, westbound 80 before barrett avenue. this car went off the highway, down the hillside there. about 30 feet. this backup is about four miles back, well past el sobrante.

this will be an issue for commuters, but the car went down off the hillside and thankfully only minor injuries are reported. this is result here. one witness did report to the chp it looked like the driver was speeding and that's how they ended up crashing through the guardrail there and down the hillside this morning. this is what we're looking at here, westbound 80 in richmond, past or before bar rhett avenre. >> developing now, investigators in sonoma are expected to release more details today about a man accused of an abducting and sexually assaulting a teenager. >> the girl said it happened while she was walking to school yesterday morning near altimira middle school. amy hollyfield is live in sonoma. amy? >> hi. parents here are now rethinking how their kids get to school.

the 14-year-old girl was walking to halt mealtimira middle schooa car did a u-turn, the door swung opn and the driver grabbed her and pulled her into the car. she was sexually assaulted. the superintendent sent a letter home to parents saying the girl was dropped off at another location and she bravely reported it right away. this has parents and grandparents rethinking how their kids get to school. >> i'm concerned. you know. if he wants to ride his bike, i would like to think he can. now i'm thinking maybe not. so -- i'm heartened by the fact that the police were able to at least get the suspect. >> police say after the attack, the man then triied to grab another girl but she

fought and got away. the sonoma county sheriff's department said every unit responded to the area and found a man inside a car matching the description. they arrested him. we are hoping to learn more about him later today. reporting live in sonoma, amy hollyfield, abc7 news. at the live desk, president trump will address the nation this morning with an update after iran fired more than a dozen missiles at u.s. troops and coalition forces in iraq. this morning iran's supreme leader says his country slapped the united states in the face last night. he was referring to the missile strikes in iraq which were done in retaliation to the killing of iran's most powerful commander. a u.s. defense official tells abc news that 10 missiles struck the air base in the anbar province and one hit a base in iraq's kurdish division. four other missiles failed in flight. yesterday nancy pelosi tweeted she's monitoring the situation. >> thank you.

developing news, no one survived the ukrainian plane crash in iran. ukraine's foreign minister said the boeing 737 had 176 passengers, including iranian, ukrainian, swedish, afghan, british and german nationals on board. developing news this morning in san francisco, a public health crisis on overdoses in the city. according to the examiner, matt haney's resolution was approved at the board of supervisors meeting yesterday. the resolution is calling on the department of public health, the mayor and state officials to better respond to drug abuse. haney says he hopes this will prompt a response that is as big as the crisis we're facing. san francisco district attorney-elect will be sworn in today after winning the hotly contested race. chesa boudin won the race in november beating

tus. boudine created subcommittees to help establish the office and implement key policies. san francisco is ordering an e-scooter company to close after it pretended to have operating permits. the district attorney ordered go x to shut down. the company is accused of using fake permits with the city seal and owing $233,000 in unpaid fines. the city says go x parked the scooters illegally off the embarcadero in the public right of way. the company says it does not fall under the same category as other scooter companies because it partners with businesses for scooter parking. the company has until january 18th to shut down. harvey weinstein threatened with jail time. what he couldn't stop doing in court yesterday that upset the judge. and disneyland bracing for the next big thing. a sneak peek at the ride opening

washington. >> good morning to you. iran promised vengeance and the supreme leader of iran saying earlier this morning that this missile attack was a slap in the face of america. but key here, no u.s. casualties. iran striking back at the u.s. launching more than a dozen ballistic missiles seen here in iranian state tv video in what they've dubbed "operation martyr soleimani," revenge for the u.s. drone strike that killed their top military general, qassem soleimani. the impact of the u.s./iran conflict playing out on iraqi soil seen here, targeting the roughly 1,500 u.s. and coalition forces stationed about 100 miles west of baghdad at al asad air base. that's the same base president trump visited in 2018 as his first to meet troops in the region. the president taking to twitter to respond writing, all is well. assessment of casualties and damages taking place now.

i want to take you to some video so you can see how many cars were broken into. they're parked next to each other. these thieves were working quickly. abc7 news spoke to one of the victims of this crime. he said when he moved to this area, people let him know that car break-ins were common on this street. >> i just bought that car two months ago. now they broke it. >> you heard the man say he is sad this happened to him. he got the car a couple months ago. this is what many residents outside of this apartment complex are waking up to this morning. busted windows, they'll have to get those repaired or covered for the time being. they'll have to clean up this glass here as well. reminders for you at home, when you park the car always remember to lock it and never leave valuables within plain sight. that lets thieves know your car

it was picked because of its size and it's close to transportation. there will be a town hall meeting this friday at 5:30 at the rosalyn library in santa rosa. san francisco mayor london breed will be inaugurated for her first full term. this is video from her first inauguration in july of 2018. the ceremony will be held at 11:00 this morning in the rotunda of city hall. she will be sworn in before speaking to supporters. there will be musical performances and an invocation. she became the city's first black female mayor when mayor ed lee died in december of 2017. also happening today, paul miyamoto will be sworn in as the 37th sheriff of san francisco. he is the first asian american to hold that post. he will be sworn in by the state attorney general at 1:30 in the city hall rotunda. it's time to think about our taxes. . the irs will start accepting 2019 tax returns january 27th.
