happened in the 1990s. chris reyes joins us from lafayette. chris, why is this just coming to light now? >> good evening. well this complaint comes days just after a new law passed in california that bill extends the statute of limitations in sexual abuse cases giving victims up to the age of 40 years old to file a lawsuit. the previous limit was 26 years old. that law took effect january 1st. so that might be why we're just hearing about this case now. >> you know, there's certainly shock and concern and, you know, the principals would be better to ask that question because i'm not interacting directly with the parents or the students. >> we paid a visit to the high school where 54-year-old kyle ann wood was teaching pe and photography at the time of her arrest. we heard students there chanting free miss wood. wood was arrested on wednesday night at her home in pleasant

hill. residents across the street from where she lives told us they were shocked to hear about what happened. they told us that wood is a good and hel helpful neighbor. wood is being held in lieu of $150,000 bail. court documents show the sex assault complaint was filed october 2019. the other victim is deceased. both females were minors and students at the high school in lafayette between 1996 and 1998. at the time of the alleged assault while wood was a teacher there. >> you are priority is absolutely student safety and we hear of something like this, it really shakes us to the core. and so we are, you know, reaching out and if anyone knows anything, we want them to come forward. the teacher is on administrative leave pending a police investigation and our own internal investigation which

commenced. >> and, of course this is a continuing investigation. the sheriff's department asking anyone with information to call police. in lafayette, chris reyes, abc 7 news. >> thank you, chris. >> we learned that the chief homelessness official has now stepped down. jeffrey ross resigned today. the county has been dealing with a growing homeless crisis like the countless camps along a popular trail. wayne friedman joins us with more. >> good evening. he resigned today after a performance evaluation yesterday. there was a perception by people inside county government that there was not enough urgency shown by ross in dealing with the situation. let's begin with linda hopkins. she's been under pressure herself. we asked her about the timing of this. >> i prep appreciate that. and i respect that.

online political ads. who is going to monitor if the ads are factually false or misleading? not facebook. p that's why a protest movement is launched. this is the first of many the organizers pledge will happen. besides this gathering at facebook headquarters, they've collected over 23,000 signatures on an online petition in a single day. >> we shouldn't have to worry about the integrity of our democracy. we are. it's because of the huge social media company in our backyard, facebook, facebook is facilitating bad actors putting out disinformation, putting out divisiveness that can jeopardize our election. >> facebook makes the poegs position clear, people should be ale to hear from those who wish to lead them, warts and all, and that what they say should be scrutinized and debates in public. the chair of the republican party says he doesn't want facebook employees determining what voters will see in ads. these activists can not be trusted to take an even handed approach in judging the accuracy
