the streets in teheran this weekend condemning iranian authorities for shooting down a ukrainian passenger plane. here's abc news reporter stephanie ramos. >> reporter: protesters taking to the streets in iran, shouting anti-government slogans following the iranian military's admission that it accidentally shot down that ukrainian passenger plane, killing all 176 people on board. president trump tweeting directly to the iranian people in both far see and english. my administration will continue to stand with you. we are following your protest closely and are inspired by your courage. here at home, a new abc news insis poll found 56% of americans disapprove of the president's handling of the iran situation. 43% approve. only 25% of those surveyed report feeling safer following the u.s. strike that killed iranian general qassem soleimani. 52% feel less safe.

york. >> a muni light rail train hit and killed a man early this morning at a bus stop in visitacion valley. police say the train was stopped at a light and the man was sitting on the device that connects two train cars. he fell under the second car of the train when it started moving again. the mta says the operator did not know the train struck the man. another operator reported a body on the tracks. the mta says this is the first incident of its kind in the last two years. >> patriots wide receiver and redwood city native julian edelman faces vandalism charges after he jumped on the hood of a car. it happened in beverley hills. edelman was a quarterback in san mateo before going pro. he was last year's super bowl mvp. edelman has been released from jail and is scheduled to amir in a l.a. courtroom in april. >> in the philippines a volcano erupted sending a terrifying amount of ash and steam into the air. tourists captured video of a

lightning storm at the volcano site. experts are warning for a potential of a more hazardous explosion. this is the tall volcano located 37 miles south of the capital manila. tens of thousands of people are being evacuated. the airport is closeds to flights. there are no immediate reports of injuries. happening today, a crew of 50 people from california is on its way to help the island of puerto rico in the aftermath of a week of earthquakes. you're looking at video of a team of disaster specialists leaving sacramento international airport this morning. they'll be in puerto rico for about two weeks helping residents with temporary housing. yesterday's magnitude 5.9 and 4.6 aftershock were just the latest in a string of quakes knocking out power and water to thousands. the u.s. gs says today aftershocks have continued with 144 having a magnitude of 3.0 and greater since the quake on

a big day in a california court tomorrow for gig economy workers like rideshare drivers and truckers. a hearing will consider whether a new law that gives these workers grater protection will stay on the books. assembly bill 5 treats freelancers as employees who are entitled to benefits. but uber and the california trucking association sued to stop it calling the new law unconstitutional. a federal judge issued a temporary restraining order against ab 5. the judge will consider blocking the law while other lawsuits are settled.

effect for three days during the busy j.p. morgan health care conference this week. and there is a $50 minimum for breakfast as well, not including the 18% service charge and sales tax. now, the health care conference is one of the busiest conventions in san francisco. it all comes on the heels of a convention booker's conference. that was in town last week. the chronicle reports the city poured extra resources including police, public works crews, and nearly 400 volunteers to spruce up the downtown area. the city took a big blow when oracle announced it would move its annual open world convention to vegas, citing the city's poor street conditions. phil is the "san francisco chronicle" insider and you can read his columns every wednesday and sunday in ""the chronicle." >> well, today was the last day on the job for the most photographed man in san francisco. not drew tuma. this guy. the legendary tom sweeney has been the door man at the sir francis drake hotel for the last 45 years. make that 43 years.

drew, though. >> kweel find rain drops in the sen-day forecast. as the week goes on, looks like a pretty potent storm moves in wednesday night into thursday. live doppler shows it's calm out there. temperature wise we're finding numbers slowly falling from the 50s to the 40s. 49 currently in cloverdale, 53 in oelkd. 52 in platt, the current temperature in san francisco. under a mixture of stars and clouds, the clouds this time of year act like a blanket. they insulate us, so not as cold tonight as we were last night. last night we were well into the 30s in a lot of spots. tonight most spots will hold in the 40s. a few exceptions like santa rosa, napa, and livermore. low to mid 40s around the bay shoreline. now, tomorrow we do bring in the storm impact scale. this is for tomorrow night. monday night. the level 1 light system out there. scattered showers, rainfall is pretty light, less than a 10th of an inch. winds aren't too active. 25 miles per hour at times. we'll time it out for you.

tomorrow morning we're dry. even into the afternoon it's a mixture of sun and clouds out there. the rain arrives after the sun goes down, first in the north bay around 6:00, 7:00 at night. then those light showers begin to sink south. around 10:00, 11:00 p.m. tomorrow night, we expect light showers through san francisco, oakland, approaching san jose. then it fizz lz out in the early morning hours on tuesday. so much of the day tomorrow, it is dry. it's at night the rain returns. so tomorrow it's partly sunny out there. 55 in the city. 56 in oakland. it's a cool day to start out the week. 56 in san jose. about 55 in santa rosa. 57 the high in antioch. we're going to fast forward into that stronger system here. this one will arrive thursday morning and on the storm impact scale it is a level 2 moderate system. we are tracking thursday morning, steady rain, scattered downpours across the region. look at the rainfall. that's pretty good this time 6 year. half an inch to an inch of rainfall. some spots could see more rain than that and the winds will be pretty active. 20 to 40 miles per hour. so future weather wednesday

night. most of us are dry. we see that rain first in the north bay and then watch what happens as we get into thursday morning. that's a pretty good slug of moisture at 5:00 a.m. on thursday. moderate rain, scattered downpours. so thursday morning commute does look really messy. so rainfall potential with this mid week mess, you can see a lot of spots over half of an inch if not more than an inch where we see those downpours set up. not only rain here. this is a pretty significant storm for the sierra. winter storm watch will go into effect wednesday above 2000 feet. we can see 1 to 2 feet of fresh powder by thursday night. plan the next seven days for you. tuesday is dry. wednesday night, that storm arrives and intensifies thursday morning. we're dry on friday. and then there is another chance of some showers late on saturday. but right now sunday looks totally dry. mostly sunny. in fact, mild in the upper 50s to lower 60s. so chris is pretty excited about that. >> okay, drew, thanks. >> he's also excited about the
