>> sheriff's deputies evict a group of moms in oakland who were illegally squatting for months. now a very different look at that house which is surrounded by feds. >> the sheriff's department moved in this morning on magnolia street. dozen of protesters were there as it happened. leslie brinkley is live outside the santa rita jail where the four people were taken. leslie? >> reporter: hi there. those four moms and the two moms and their two supporters were reeased from jail here about an hour and a half ago. elated to be out of jail but absolutely outraged at how they're refusing to evict played

out this morning. >> wake up. >> reporter: misty and moms for housing were released from alameda county jail, ranger than ever after they were arrested this morning by sheriff's deputies who stormed the home they were living in. >> now we have a bigger movement because this fight is bigger. they shouldn't have put us in here. i'm fighting this fight. period. >> reporter: a superior court judge ruled friday that the group moms for housing could not legally live in the home they took over nearly two months ago. they turned down an offer from the home's owner for two months of temporary housing. >> the squatters made a point. making a point and doing what's right are two different things. >> reporter: deputies used a battering ram and a robot to arrest four people who refused

to leave. three for resisting an eviction. walter baker was arrested for obstructing officers. >> it seemed heavy handed to show number military outfits with guns, and to use a battering ram. i am relieved to hear no children were present when this happened. >> the doors were barricaded. they had fordified the doors and making entry into the residence was very difficult. >> so no children present during that eviction process. the charges are all misdemeanors. money to pay for bail was raised on a go fund me page. the moms say this has really lit a fire. they say it will have a big impact on oakland and the homeless crisis as they are going to continue to fight this fight. >> no doubt. where are the women arrested going to stay now that they're out of jail and out of magnolia street home and there have been offers of temporary shelter.

aggressive way that we can. >> reporter: when she was elected, she said the county was spending less than $1 million on services to help victims of these crimes. chavez who was sworn in as board presidenter this morning said they now spend $13 million. >> one of the things is housing, sheltering, it will be a big priority. >> reporter: the latest proposal is to build up to 80 affordable housing units at the new civic center. according to a new 2018 report, violence is the leading cause of homelessness for women. she said more must be done to help them. especially mothers trying to protect their children. >> women are trying to keep their children safe so they may have children live with different family members. the mother staying in a car. what we're trying to do is recognize, we have that hidden homeless population and make sure we're addressing it. >> reporter: supervisor chavez said one of the indicators of being a homeless adult is being

a homeless child. she hopes more home units will help break cycle. >> thank you. governor newsom continued his week-long tour to address the homelessness crisis in southern california. he went to an emergency shelter in riverside as well as the access center which provides outreach and services. he will make trips to the central valley and bay area later this week. about 151,000 people are living on the streets and in shelters in california. >> this is the year we want to see results. this is year to see people moving off the streets into supportive housing, into navigation centers with shelters with enriched services. >> reporter: an advisory council wants to put a constitutional amendment on the ballot. giving governments one year to find solutions to the homeless crisis. the man accused of a fatal stabbing of an 18-year-old woman

at an oakland b.a.r.t. station will be tried in alameda county at the same time the judge rejected a change of venue request. he is charged with murder for the deadly tike mia wilson. this took place in july of 2018. he's charged with the attempted murder of her sister. jury selection is expected to start tomorrow. the trial could be suspended if a report is due finds cowell mentally incompetent. a security guard is being credited for helping arrest a man accused of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a child. police interrupted the suspect while he was sexually assaulting a juvenile female in his car yesterday afternoon. according to investigators, he had been hired by the family several years ago to drive her to and from school. it happened behind a business on east capitol express way. the security guard held the suspect at gunpoint until

officers arrived. we have developing news out of los angeles. cell phone videoful this is frightening. it shows a delta plane dumping fuel and it lands right on top of an elementary school play ground and kids were playing at the time. 23 had to be treated after complaining of consistent irritation but thankfully none had to be taken to the hospital. a nearby high school was also affected by the fuel dump but no one was hurt. the federal aviation administration said the flight taken off from los angeles international airport and was heading to shanghai when it declared an emergency and turned around. a san francisco neighborhood was partially evacuated this afternoon because of a gas leak. a construction crew hit an eight-inch gas line. police officers and firefighters went door to door to advise people, if they needed to evacuate, they weren't out long before pg&e was able to turn off the gas and no injuries were reported. turning to the weather, you can see the sun but a storm is

heading our way. >> take a look at our east bay hills. it looked more dark and foreboding on the left-hand side. spencer christian is here with the forecast. >> we have calm conditions as they have pointed out. >> a storm of moderate intensity that will produce periods of heavy rain late tomorrow into early thursday morning. here's the forecast animation starting late tomorrow afternoon. notice just before midnight, it moves into the bay. then it intention identifies and spreads southward and eastward. thursday will have rather widespread pockets of moderate to heavy rainfall. the system will continue to produce stormy weather in the bay area until about midday on thursday before it starts to break up and move out of here.

in just two hours, several of the candidates will be in the debate. biden, sanders, warren, klobuchar, buttigieg, you'll notice they're all white. a look at the questions of diversity on the debate stage. >> reporter: with less than two months before the california primary, vermont senator the bernie sanders has emerged as the new front-runner. the new policy poll shows 27% support sanders. 24% for biden. 23% for elizabeth warren. the three candidates make up half those making up the debate stage in iowa. among line-up which also includes pete buttigieg, amy

the low to mid 50s. a cool day and the approaching storm rank twos on the storm impact scale. we expect periods of heavy rain. most will see a half inch to an inch. wlufts reach 40-miles-per-hour or higher. we'll see light rain tomorrow, pushing into the north bay. and then a little after midnight, we'll see a steady line of rather moderate to heavy ra rain. it will be quite stormy with strong gusty winds. up to about 40 miles a hour. the storm will begin to weaken and push out of bay area. by midday. there will be pockets of showers that will follow storm and snow falling in the sierra. our prediction for rainfall

the airport. david? >> reporter: you were right with. more leisure travel and more business travel going on, the airport wants to add more flights. in fact, most 13 airlines operating here would like to do so. it would require a lot more gates and facilities. a new parking lot is planned but it could generate the equivalent of 28,000 cars. san jose claims to be the fastest growing airport in the country for five years but it is facing challenges. the volume of passengers can be backed up. while six new gates were added, no new baggage facilities werend aed. so plans were underway to build c. as it works on the expansion's environmental impact study, it is raising concerns that some planes mean more emissions. >> our challenge is to accommodate that increased

personal emissions for the sake of the future. >> are you talking about companies doing teleconferencing? or you hold a meeting via skype or something like that? >> certainly. technology has come a long way in the last decades. and working remotely is easier than ever before. and it is good for the climate. >> few people would argue that we need better options. cars, trains, maybe electric air planes. for now, what can we each do? >> we can be aware of how large our climate foot prints are. the the report last fall mention that had globally we need to cut emissions by 8% this year, next year, and every year following to avoid essentially climate chaos. >> sure. and the disaster that's come with it. flooding, drought, disruption to our food supply, water supply. i am wondering, is there something about the burning of

that fossil fuel by plane that makes it worse for the environment than if you burn it some other way? >> it is certainly worse. burning jet future has about two to four times the impact as burning the same amount on the ground. >> is there anything anything to mitigate it? >> technology does improve. the rate of flying is increasing so this is counter acting our progress technology wise. we're still asking people to fly less or not at all. >> we have about 15 seconds. was there something else you wanted to share? >> i would like to say that it can be a joy to fly less and live a lighter carbon lifestyle. we're doing this for the future. it feels great. traveling locally and traveling slower has its rewards.
