so take a look. we have that video. the security guards say they see the bus come to the end of the line, then they hear the driver tell everyone they have to get out. the security guards say they then see several homeless people get off the bus and disappear into the darkness. this is a samtrans bus coming from the peninsula. phil matier is breaking this exclusive story this morning. he asked san francisco supervisor aaron pes kkin about this practice. he called it unconscionable saying it appears agencies are playing musical chairs with the homeless. this as san francisco is spending millions to deal with the homeless population it has. the city just opened a $4 million navigation center for the homeless on the embarcadero located just a few blocks away from here, where these homeless people are being dropped off. reporting live in san francisco, amy hollyfield, abc7 news.

and you expect someone to get here right away. now neighbors here in this union city neighborhood are worried about response time now that fire station number 30 here in new city is set to close at 8:00 a.m. this morning. the mayor of union city this fire station is closing because of underutilization that was costing the city 3$3.2 million a year. on average the city says the station received less than two calls every 24 hours, an average of 1.7 calls a day. but the local firefighters union says the closure of firehouse 30 could add an additional 6 to 8 minutes in response times while the city is backing its decision to close the station with data, coer my queio would be why in this economy when everything and everybody is doing well. the other concern i have is about response time. >> reporter: the nine firefighters working here will still be with the alameda county

fire department but have to reach out to other stations for placement. the mayor said the number of calls this station was receiving were calls for medical help so they're considering moving ambulances and other services to this fire station after it closes in a few hours at 8:00 a.m. for now reporting live in union city, julian glover, abc7 news. in the east bay, advocates say thectn on squatters from a vacant home in oakland is giving their battle to help the homeless new momentum. >> moms 4 housing rallied their supporters outside the home last night. they're vowing to keep fighting for affordable housing. deputies forced four women from the house before dawn yesterday morning. two women were arrested and released hours later. >> it was never about taking over the house. the statement and the movement was way bigger than that. that's the reason that we are standing in front of moms house today, because it was never about being on the inside. >> a judge issued an eviction

order last week. the moms say deputies used a battering ram and a robot to get inside the house. deputies say the doors were barricaded from the inside. jury selection is set to begin in the trial of the man charged in the murder of an 18-year-ol passenger. john lee cowell stabbed nia wilson to death in july of 2018. he's also charged with the attempted murder of wilson's sister. the judge rejected the defense motion for a change of venue. last month the judge ruled cowell is competent to stand trial. six democratic presidential candidates are back on the campaign trail this morning after tiptoeing around a tax and their final debate before the iowa caucuses. one of the most talked about moments of the night happened after the debate when elizabeth warren appeared to rebuff a handshake from bernie sanders. here is megan tersargsyan.

juan is 16 years old and says he likes galileo high school. he fled el salvador with his mother and someboiblings last s. they ended up homeless in san francisco and have been staying at the buena vista horace mann school for a week. >> i would be happy in a house my mom rents. >> they were threatening to kill me or my kids. i had to leave because it's not safe. they killed someone in front of my house. >> anna is juan's mother. she is seeking asylum for her family. thanks to the shelter, they're not on the streets and they have support. seven nights a week, employees from dolores street community services set up for the so-called stay-over program at the mission district school. the families are given food, access to showers and lockers for their belongings. >> she is sleeping in the gym. she has hope for better future for the kids. >> reporter: jacqueline portillo is the manager of the shelter which originally was opened just

for buena vista horace mann students in need. but it was underutilized so last year they expanded the program and occupancy jumped 60%. >> here we're making together to make this kid be successful in the school. ve exited the pre on nearly the path to secure housing. in san francisco, kate larsen, abc7 news. >> in the south bay, plans are under way to build a new terminal at san jose's international airport as travel demand is growing but there are concerns over climate impact. just last year, minueta san jos opened six new gates, but they would like to add 12 gates. the expansion comes with concern that the flights will add more air pollution from jet engines. >> rather than having airplanes sitting out on the tarmac, waiting to move in, we'll be

it's clear out there. we have some fog to deal with. showers developing this evening. moderate to heavy rain tonight. there will be plenty of standing water on the roads during tomorrow's morning commute. more weaker storms coming through the extended. highs today from about 51 in napa, san jose at 57. yucaipa, mid to tonight, the heaviest rains will be up in the north bay. 38 in lake port to 46 in san rafael. the rest of us from 41 in livermore to morgan hill to about 49 in san francisco. we pared down where we think the thunderstorms will be. tomorrow during the storm, we could have the thunder and locally heavy downpours. at 5:00, once the sunsets, light rains will develop and some embedded showers are up in the north bay. during the evening hours, that will slide down to the peninsula coast. you can see the heavier rain, some reds showing up in
