extending moor than tmore than miles right now. this is right near the ikea. ace 1 is at 16 minutes behind schedule. also here, we have our drive times, antioch to hercules, 33 minutes. highway 4 to the maze, 15 minutes. building a better bay area means digging into issues surrounding homelessness. new this morning, we're learning about something that samtrans is doing. it appears that buses are dropping homeless people off in san francisco with nowhere to go and there's video showing it happening. amy hollyfield is live in san francisco with this story. good morning. >> good morning. this is happening here at drum and washington. this is by the embarcadero towers. take a look. some security guards saw it happening, they decided to roll video of it. we have that video. they noticed samtrans buses would come to the end of the

line and the driver would tell everyone they have to get out. the security guards say then they would see several homeless people get off the bus and disappear into the darkness. this is a samtrans bus coming from the peninsula. phil matier is breaking this exclusive story this morning. it sounds like his story will come as a surprise to many. >> i didn't realize it was happening. clearly not a great thing. i can imagine other towns don't want it, san francisco, what do we call it t a rshgit, a sanctu? they seem to embrace it. i don't know. i'm glad i work here and don't live here. >> phil matier asked san francisco supervisor aaron peskin about the practice, he called it unconscionable saying it appears agencies are playing musical chairs with the homeless. this comes as san francisco is spending millions trying to deal with the homeless population it has. the city just opened a $4

they can't be all the way out there. >> county's goal is to have the trail cleared by the end of the month. the facility to house the homeless is expected to have 60 portable units. happening today, governor governor newsom will be in the central valley to talk about his plan to deal with homelessness. he'll meet with people struggling to get off the street. he'll hear from those who work to house and assist the homeless. it's part of the governor's week-long tour across the state. he was in southern california yesterday. today he makes a stop in fresno. he'll tour a recovery facility that offers social services including mental health. today the house will hold a historic vote to send articles of impeachment against president trump over to the senate. the articles accuse president trump of abuse of power and obstruction of congress. the house is expected to name impeachment managers who will act as prosecutors. after the vote the houseman j

managers will walk the articles across to the capitol. senate leader mitch mcconnell says the trial will likely begin next tuesday. supreme court chief justice john roberts is due to preside over the senators. no sitting president has ever been convicted. this is set to be the third trial of an american president joining andrew johnson and bill clinton. richard nixon resigned before he could be impeached. >> thanks. president trump held a keep america great rally in milwaukee on the same night as the first democratic debate of the new year. thousands of trump supporters packed the arena. the president fired up the crowd as he talked about the recent military action that took out the top iranian military general, blamed for killing hundreds of americans. your voice, your vote. the iowa caucus is less than three weeks away. last night six democratic candidates took the stage in iowa for their seventh debate. they weighed in on everything from climate change to health care. senator bernie sanders addressed the comment that he said he never made.

woman crashed her e-scooter into a cement truck on monday in the embarcadero. she's in the hospital with life threatening injuries. police are investigating that crash. they say it's not clear which party hit the other. this morning the los angeles unified school district is waiting for the all clear from health officials before opening several schools. the faa is investigating an incident that left kids covered in jet fuel. a delta plane dumped fuel on several elementary schools yesterday as it returned to l.a.x. because it was having engine trouble. this happened in los angeles county. the flight was headed to shanghai when a pilot reported a stalled engine compressor. some of the kids were playing on a playground during the fuel dump. medics treated more than 60 kids and adults for skin and lung irritation. the fuel was described as a mist. >> so what happened was that a plane was coming over and it was throwing gasoline. and it spread it on my friends and on me. then it got in my eye, and i'm

things are starting off nicely at 5:20 this morning. moving over now to the richmond-san rafael bridge, we're not seeing any slowdowns as people approach the toll plaza. good news for the most part on our roads at the moment. drive times here, we have a slowdown in tracy to dublin, that drive time, 41 minutes. dublin to mission boulevard, 15 minutes. also 15 minutes to get from highway 101 to cupertino. ferries on the winter schedule, no delays there. b.a.r.t. has 23 trains running now. ace 1 has been the problem with 16 minutes behind schedule. reggie and kumasi? >> president trump is slamming apple for refusing to unlock iphones that belong to criminals. apple declined requests from attorney general william barr and the fbi to unlock two phones. they belong to a 21-year-old man who killed three sailors in a shooting last month at an air force base in pensacola, florida. trump said that apple will have to step up to the plate and help our great country. a major milestone for a bay area bike sharing system.

if you're in the blue, you have two-thirds to nearly an inch. in the green, more than an inch. like the santa cruz mountains, east bay hills and most of the north bay. my biggest concerns with this storm are ponding on the roadways. that's my highest concern. there's a possibility of a small window tomorrow morning when the cold front comes through that winds could gust up to 50 miles per hour and could down trees and power lines. everything else is on the low to nonexistent side. it will be driving and the roads and the urban flooding that will be a big issue tomorrow. >> thanks. a milestone for bicyclists in the area. the bay wheels bike share system passed its 5 millionth ride. the bikes are available in san

help. >> it's shutting down and some neighbors are sounding the alarm about it. julian glover is live in union city with more on this. >> good morning. >> six to eight minutes in additional response time, that's what the local fire union is warning of with the closure of firehouse number 30 behind us here. set to stop answering calls at 8:00 this morning. that has neighbors concerned about what will happen the next time they pick up the phone and dial for help. we are hearing the fire station is closing because of underutilizatio underutilization. that's what the mayor is telling us. they say the firehouse was averaging less than two calls every 24 hours, and something had to give. the firefighters working here will still be with alameda but have to reach out to other stations for placement going forward. neighbors we spoke to are worried about the decision.

mike augustine says the decision will put the public in danger. >> it's a puzzle to us, to the firefighters, especially with the public safety tax they are already collecting from the citizens who pay the money to maintain the fire houses that they have. >> the mayor says the majority of calls for help were medical calls from this station. the city now considering moving ambulances or other emergency services to the station as it closes at 8:00 this morning. not closes but stops answering additional calls this morning. we should point out an additional concern from that representative from the firehouse, the firefighters association saying with the city the size of 75,000 people in union city, with the fire stations being so spread out, he's concerned about those response times, how quickly they'll be able to get to someone calling for help. for now reporting live in union city, julian glover, abc7 news. in the east bay, advocates

say the eviction of squatters from a vacant home in oakland is giving their battle to help the homeless new momentum. >> moms 4 housing rallied their supporters outside the home last night. they're vowing to keep fighting for affordable housing. deputies forced four women from the house before dawn yesterday morning. two women were arrested and released hours later. >> it was never about taking over the house. the statement and the movement was way bigger than that. that's the reason that we are standing in front of moms house today, because it was never about being on the inside. >> a judge issued an eviction order last week. the moms say deputies used a battering ram and a robot to get inside the house. deputies say the doors were barricaded from the inside. jury selection is set to begin in the trial of the man charged in the murder of an 18-year-old b.a.r.t. passenger. john lee cowell stabbed nia wilson to death in july of 2018. he's also charged with the attempted murder of wilson's sister. the judge rejected the defense motion for a change of venue.

programs are set up at the mission district school. homeless families are given food, access to showers and lockers for their belongings. on any given night about 30 students sleep inside the school gym. >> here we are working together to make these kids be successful in the schools. >> city hall says nearly two-thirds of the families who left the program are now on the path to secure housing. in the south bay, plans are under way to build a new terminal at san jose's international airport as travel demand is growing but there are concerns over the project's climate impact. just last year san jose added six new gates and a temporary terminal but they would like to build a new terminal c with 12 gates. with expansion comes concern that more sfligt flights will more pollution. >> rather than having airports sitting out on the apron after they landed waiting for a gate to open up, because we're gate con
