look how it is bouncing around. driving across the bay bridge, from one line to the next line to the next line, i was like i hope there's not a police ficer behind me or he understands how windy it is out there. it's a tough travel. it's dry. there are a few wet spots out there from some overnight showers, the heaviest rain will be in the north bay through 7:00, the rest of us after that through noon in the south bay and then scattered showers and thunderstorms with the possibility of hail and snow on hamilton. a couple inches is possible. >> we have a traffic alert in pacifica. a fatal crash due to a wrong way driver on highway 1. southbound 1 closeded a manor drive. you're being detoured to skyline boulevard. that will be out there for a while. it was a wrong way driver on southbound 1 earlier this morning in pacifica. bay bridge toll plaza, pretty quiet. there's a wind advisory there. if you're thinking about heading

to the san mateo bridge, here's a live shot. everywhere it's quiet. no other major accidents going on. we heard from mike, we know it will be a messy morning commute with all the weather. >> thanks. the impeachment trial against president trump officially gets under way in the senate this morning. senators will be sworn in as jurors today. it all comes as an associate of president trump's personal attorney, rudy giuliani, makes new bombshell claims that implicate a number of people including the president. megan tevrizian is live in new york with the latest. good morning. >> hi. that associate, lev parnas, makes a series of serious allegations that implicate vice president mike pence, attorney general, william barr, republican congressman, devin nunes and the president himself. the formal articles of impeachment are now in the hands of the senate after being hand delivered by the seven democrats appointed to prosecute the case. president trump maintaining it was all a hoax even as new details emerge about his actions in ukraine.

in a new bombshell interview on msnbc, an associate of president trump's attorney rudy giuliani says the president was in the loop when it came to pressuring ukraine. >> president trump knew exactly what was going on. he was aware of all of my movements. he -- i wouldn't do anything without the consent of rudy giuliani or the president. >> reporter: lev parnas also facing indictment and more ptential charges is doubling down. >> it was never about corruption. it was never -- it was strictly about burisma, which included hunter biden and joe biden. >> reporter: new evidence handed over by parnas was made public by the house intelligence committee. text messages, emails and handwritten notes. when asked if he had any comment on the parnas interview giuliani telling abc news, none, he's a very sad situation. the latest interview could put pressure on senators to demand new witnesses possibly even giuliani himself.

senators sworn in as jurors today in the impeachment trial which is scheduled to begin on tuesday. megan tevrizian, abc news. san jose police are investigating a shooting. >> it happened just before 10:30 last night. detectives cordoned off the area while they continue to investigate. we don't have other details that are available now. governor newsom will be in oakland today to see how it's dealing with the homeless crisis. it's one of the major issues in building a better bay area. >> sky 7 was over oakland and spotted about 20 trailers. the staging area is connected to the governor's visit. last week he told abc7 news reporter leslie brinkley that trailers would be part of the solution that the state is implementing. newsom has been touring homeless facilities across the state all week. happening today, the suspects involved in the deadly laptop theft in oakland are due in court.

byron reed and javon lee are in court for a plea hearing at 9:00. according to charging documents, lee was involved in taking the laptop and lee was the suspected getaway driver. shuo zeng died outside the starbucks while trying to get his laptop back. the majority of speakers say they are not against a marijuana dispensary but are against the location. the superintendent of the school district says the proposed location borders the martinez adult education center and is located a couple blocks from the high school. >> the school district is not asking the city to say no in total. the school district is merely asking that if they're going to say yes, they find a different location. >> unlike a liquor store, unlike a grocery store that sells alcohol and tobacco, nobody --

nobody can get in that is under age. >> the city council awarded the dispensary a conditional certificate that will be good for one year so council members can see how it will do. pg&e says it is close but not fully on target to complying with the wildfire prevention measures required by a federal judge. the utility admits it has fallen short of commitments. it concedes vegetation management program is not where it should be. pg&e says there are still 22,000 trees close to power lines that need to be trimmed. the company gives itself high marks for safety inspections. it says it has made significant progress responding to the threat of wildfires. there is a new sense of optimism in one south bay community. its police department feeling good about keeping neighbors safe. and san francisco eyeing a big change to the embarcadero in the name of bike safety. it could make driving on it a bigger challenge. and listen, this is a stunning story of survival. a north california woman found

alive in her suv after nearly a week buried under snow. >> that is incredible. this morning we're talking about this green blob headed our way. >> let's go back to that really quick. we have one to three feet of snow possible in the sierra starting this morning, travel is discouraged. we don't want to end up like that lady. if you can't go up there now, don't go. wait until friday evening. getting back to your green blob, we have light rain up there. so far it's been very nice to us. it's been light. it's been scattered. from the marin county coast all the way up to the mendocino county. it's raining steadily there. you can see some steady rain in the santa cruz mountains. most of the south bay is getting rain shadows. that's not going to last long. from south beach, going across the bay bridge. you probably can't see the individual cars struggling with the wind, but it is wet and windy driving.

mass transit will be poor with blowing rain. it will be rough on the bay today and wet with that level 2 moderate storm. winds gusting up to 35 to 45 to 55 miles per hour at our highest elevations. now, if that gets caught in a rain shaft, that rain shaft will bring that down to the ground with that cold air sinking. that's why we're worried about gusts up to 55 miles per hour. right now our fastest gust is about 28 in oakland. 60 in san francisco. you can see them running perpendicular to the bay bridge, to the dumbarton bridge, to the san mateo bridge, to the richmond-san rafael bridge, those four major bridges, a lot of tugging at your steering wheel. this will continue all the way through the morning commute. let's talk about the north bay. 7:00 to 3:00, the best chance of wet weather. temperatures in the 40s, upper 40s. east bay, you're dry until 8:00. look at the wet weather through 7:00 in the 40s. how about this, san francisco, 7:00 all the way to 5:00, you have a chance of steady rain and

scattered showers and thunderstorms. temperatures near 50. >> it's dry out there but we have problems in pacifica because of a fatal accident. highway 1 southbound is closed at manor drive. traffic is being detoured on to skyline boulevard. if you're taking southbound 1, you can't get into pacifica. you can take skyline boulevard and get back on at sharp park. that's an alternate for you. this fatal accident happened at 3:00 this morning. the driver heading northbound in the southbound lanes was pronounced dead at the scene. and his passenger and the driver heading in the southbound lanes who he crashed into have been taken to the hospital. here is a live shot now of interstate 80 heading through berkeley. headlights moving westbound. a high wind advisory for the bay bridge. the south bay ride for you in san jose, things are looking quiet. roads are still dry. it's going to be a messy morning commute later on with the rain. we'll be back with more news, weather and traffic after the

heading up highway 5 into oregon. look at the rain down to fresno by the end of the day. this is a fast moving storm. if it wasn't, the flooding issue would be greater than what it is. right now it's minor, a lot of urban flooding, street flooding, parking lots, that kind of flooding out of this intense storm. heading down to southern california, scattered showers and upper 60s. let's talk about the snow. until 6:00 today, possibly 1 to 2 feet above 2,000 feet in lake county. over in the sierra, travel is discouraged from 6:00 this morning. 24 hours later we could have up to three feet and whiteout conditions. dangerous up there. >> a 68-year-old woman is recovering after being found alive inside her snow-boud car. she was missing for six days. a search team fount paula beth james inside of her vehicle north of chico. a helicopter found her car buried in snow.

the chopper landed and a crew hiked to the vehicle and found her inside. a search and rescue team responded with a snow cat to take her to paramedics who were waiting. she was taken to the hospital. authorities have not released much about her condition. safety is a big focus in our effort to building a better bay area. while some cities have struggled to keep and recruit police officers, san jose is finding success. 48 recruits underwent final inspections yesterday as senior staff checked on their overall readiness after more than six months of training. now the san jose police academy is one week away from being sworn in as officers. >> in addition to being born and raised here. this is my home. i want to be here helping the people of san jose. that drew me in. >> san jose is in the midst of a rebuild after years of political turmoil it resulted in the department shrinking by more than a third to just more than 900 officers. over the last two police academy

classes, approximately 73% of recruits have gone on to become street-ready officers. the embarcadero could lose a car lane in an effort to improve bike safety along the waterfront. transportation leaders will consider a plan next week to create a protected passageway for cyclists and scooter riders. it would be between oracle park and pier 39. the city would convert one northbound lane into a two-way bike lane that would either be raised or protected by a barrier. left turns would be prohibited at several intersections and some metered parking spaces would be eliminated. 49ers head coach kyle shanahan will provide an update on george kittle's sore ankle after he missed practice today. this morning there is a bit of good news if you're a niner fan hoping to attend sunday's nfc championship game against the packers. the least expensive seats in the upper deck have fallen to $330 on ticket master. earlier this week they were

listed at $400. >> what a bargain. you have money for me? >> that money goes a long way. >> i guess it does. you're never more than seven minutes away from your accuweather forecast hi, mike. >> let's look at what's going on. you can see from south beach, it is dry right now on the bay bridge. a little damp when i came across from a scattered shower earlier, the breezes are the big deal. today the temperatures are not the biggest concern. i will get them out of the way first. low 50s if we're lucky this afternoon. look at tonight, chilly once again with patchy fog out there. a lot of that gray is fog. temperatures in the low to mid 50s in the north bay valleys. mid to upper 30s for the rest of us. even for fremont, hayward southward. so we've got a chance of thunderstorms. it's pretty much over the entire area. it's not exactly with the initial line itself. but after that when the sun starts to mix in this afternoon and give the air more buoyancy

and more instability. this is going to be our big rainmaker. here we are at 6:30, you can see out ahead of it, a few scout showers heavy along the peninsula coast. the steady line is still mainly up in sonoma county. by 9:00, this storm slowed down by an hour to an hour and a half from what we talked about yesterday. if you're in the east bay and south bay, most of the commute will be dry until we get to 9:00. you can see the reds showing up on top of the richmond-san rafael bridge and the bay bridge. that will be near white-out rain. that slides down into san jose and livermore by 10:30. and then by the time we get to lunch. that's moving out. but look what's happening behind it, scattered showers, heavy, localized rain. locally gusty winds. small hail possible. these will taper after the 8:00 hour. we're still looking at three quarters of an inch of rain to more than an inch of rain from the lowest elevations to

here's a look at where some of the rain is right now. you can see in marin county heading over towards 101, the latest update shows it is crawling at about 35 to 40 miles per hour. so santa rosa, pen grove, petaluma, if it's not raining there now, it will rain there shortly. our 2, here's what to expect today. heavy rain and gusty winds.

a chance of lightning, thunder and hail later on this morning. that's also when we'll have our best chance of snow. my biggest concerns today will be flooding on the roads, especially in the north bay during the morning commute. that will cause hydroplaning, downed trees and hydro mraping. we have not had a big storm in a while. our streams, our creeks and our rivers will handle plenty of water. a palo alto forever is on a personal mission this morning. [ crowd chanting ] >> i'm awake now! that is john creston pumped up to hike to san diego to raise awareness for first responder and veteran mental health. he started january 13th, exactly four years after his brother took his own life. he expects to cover 22 miles a day to complete the 625 mile hike by february 9th.
