wrong-way driver. frances is tracking the impact of that crash on your commute. >> we'll start with mike nicco who has the latest on the timing of today's storm. >> the good news is the timing has slowed down. more of us will have a milder commute than what we originally anticipated. there are showers out there. the air is saturated below about 10,000 feet. there are some areas that live doppler 7 may be overshooting because of the curvature of the earth. we have san rafael, 580, 101 where they come together. sliding south across the golden gate bridge it will get slippery with that light shower moving through. a look at the big picture, the steadiest of the rain heading up in the northern parts of our neighborhoods. lake, mendocino county. the santa cruz mountains gobbling up all the wet weather, keeping the south bay dry right now. and that is going to change heading through the morning commute. here is richmond. you can see rain falling as we

look at the west richmond side of the richmond-san rafael bridge. the breezes are the big issue until the heaviest of the rain rolls in. the it will stay in the north bay until 7:00. from 7:00 to noon we'll get intense downpours and flooding on the roadways. then tomorrows with dangerous lightning and hail during the afternoon hours. that will taper in the evening hours. we'll look at that storm coming up. first here is frances. >> this is southbound highway 1 at manor drive. a dodge charger was driving northbound in the southbound lanes and crashed into a mercedes and right now we're hearing that southbound 1 will be closed for a while. this will be the hot spot to avoid this morning. detours are in place at this point. if you are traveling through

pacifi pacifica, you will be taken off at skyline boulevard. traffic is slow there as you approach sharp park road, that will get you back on. this is the spot to avoid. it will be out there for a while. coroner headed to the scene. amy hollyfield is live at the scene now and can bring us more information. >> frances, still closed indefinitely. that's the road from the chp. the coroner is here. the tow truck is here. they're still working on and waiting for other units to arrive, some more investigators. we're in a holding pattern. so the dodge charger is still sitting here, what's left of it is sitting here on highway 1. we're on the southbound side. the other car has been towed away. let me show you video of the two cars or what's left of them that were involved. the chp telling us the charger was headed northbound, but on the southbound side. so a wrong-way driver crashed head on into a mercedes suv.

the driver going the wrong way was killed in the crash. his passenger was taken to the hospital. the driver of the mercedes also taken to the hospital. southbound highway 1 in pacifica is closed. cars are being diverted at skyline. if you rely on this for your morning routine, come up with a different plan. as of right now, they have no idea when they're going to be able to reopen these lanes vm live in pacifica, amy hollyfield, abc7 news. the governor is making his last stop on his statewide homeless tour. that last stop is in oakland in an effort to build a better area. sky 7 was near the coliseum yesterday where trailers were already being moved in as a part of the solution.

julian glover is in the newsroom with more on the visit. >> good morning. let's talk about the trailers. >> these are the same trailers that would be used in disaster relief. governor newsom is calling homelessness just as pressing. he is using these trailers to tackle the problem. we're told tents could also be rolled out to supply temporary housing in an interview with leslie brinkley last week, the governor outlined how temporary housing would be a part of the solutio solution. >> folks should know it's not just money. it's accountability, transparency. we're bringing out trailers, emergency medical equipment. we'll start treating like this like it's a fema recovery operation, like we have wildfire victims. >> the governor is allocating 7$750 million in the budget to

tackle homelessness crisis. we'll learn more about how the money will be used at today's event in oakland. this is the governor's last stop in his tour after appearances near sacramento, l.a. and fresno. each city speaking to people directly affected by homelessness. i'm julian glover, abc7 news. san francisco mayor london breed announced plans for a new navigation center on street near market. it was once used by city college of san francisco. it will have 200 beds and should open by the end of the year. the city is working to get a property at post and hyde streets ready. this will be geared towards youth. the mayor says the new centers will allow the ity to reach its goal of 1,000 new shelter beds by the end of the year. we want to hear your ideas about building a better bay area. join our building a better bay area group on facebook. san francisco supervisor sandra fuor is not running for re-election. she says she wants to retire and

fuel, the pilot said no. 20 minutes later the pilot dumped jet fuel 2,300 feet above elementary schools dousing children playing outside. paramedics treated dozens of people, thankfully nobody was seriously hurt. 13 bay area mail carriers will be honored for an incredible achievement. >> they have each driven 1 million miles on their routes without getting into an accident. not even a fender bender. the mail carriers will be inducted into the national safety council million mile club. all 13 mail carriers work out of the union city post office. a million miles is the equivalent of circling the planet 40 times. congratulations and thank you. >> can you imagine the weather they've dealt with over that time? >> today should be piece of cake. >> especially the earlier they get out there and deliver it, it will get nasty from midmorning to early afternoon. here's san rafael, we go down to street level on live doppler 7. lucas valley, kent field, greenbrae, you can see we have some light rain. here it is on our roof camera or

tower cam from there. 0.04 so far. gusty winds and a 2 on our storm impact scale. rounds of showers and thunderstorms this afternoon and evening. the weekend is trending drier and brighter. here's a look at san jose at 87. the reason i show that is because if you go into the santa cruz mountains, it's a sloppy, soupy mess. but you're getting rain shadows because of that and you're safe for the better part of the morning commute because of the santa cruz mountains. we have a heavier shower moving ashore momentarily around marshall, heading over to pengrove and sonoma. that storm track is probably a little slow now that the leading edge of that storm is pointing closer to the coast. expect rain to increase. this is the first sign that the intensity is increasing. scattered thunderstorms will be more likely after this initial line and the cold front moves through. 8:00, a lot of reads out there. that's the torrential rain that will cause ponding on the

roadways. once we get through lunch, the storms holding on there. the this will continue through the evening hours but coverage tapers. the bulk of the storm is coming in this morning. a bit of fog tomorrow. little drying trend for friday, saturday and sunday. 1s on the storm impact scale for monday and tuesday. be careful out there. frances? >> we have a couple traffic alerts we're following. the first is a bad fatal accident when a wrong-way driver was killed in pacifica on southbound highway 1. he was traveling in the northbound direction. southbound 1 is closed at skyline boulevard. right now it's sluggish making your way towards sharp park. also another traffic alert has been issued for westbound bound 4, an accident blocking the connector ramp to northbound

680. traffic is backed up about three miles. the drive time from port chicago highway to 680 is 15 minutes. a live shot of 101 in san rafael, the commute is already wet and slippery. luckily no major problems reported through parts of the north bay. and also westbound 80 slow and go through berkeley as you head towards the bay bridge toll plaza, there is a wind advisory for the bay bridge and the richmond-san rafael bridge. also it's a sluggish ride right now westbound across the san mateo bridge on the right-hand side. the bay bridge drive time is 20 minutes and slow into san francisco. >> it could be alo lot worse. we're on storm watch. we're looking at a light shower moving through berkeley, emeryville. this is the bay bridge toll plaza. just some light rain falling making things damp and slippery. bigger picture shows intensity picking up, the storm heading towards the peninsula at 6:42, san mateo, 6:47, oakland, 6:55. this storm is starting to rev up. prince harry made his first public appearance since he and meghan markle decided to reduce their royal duties. the duke of sussex attended the rugby league world cup of 2020. he's encouraging all the young people to get involved in this support as part of a mental health initiative. he announced the invictus games would be held in a new country.

especially when it starts to get wet. here's a look at those winds. heaviest rain in the north bay down to san francisco. showers and thunderstorms, rounds them in the afternoon. frances, tell us about those sigalerts. >> the commute will get worse with the weather. we have two big problems. one in it the east bay, a sigalert has been issued for westbound 4 on the connect ramp to northbound 680, an accident blocking the connect ramp. least three miles causing at least ten-minute delays. the other we've been following is a fatal accident in pacifica. southbound highway 1 at manor drive is where it happened. highway 1 is closed at skyline boulevard and that is your best alternate at this point. you can get back on to highway 1 at sharp park road. amy hollyfield is live at the scene and has been tracking the information and the latest details for us this morning. >> hi. we are still in a holding pattern here. this will be closed for hours

they're telling us. they're waiting on another investigative team from the chp that they called in to come and work on this case. so the tow truck is here. the coroner is here. but they're all waiting. so the dodge charger or what's left of it is still sitting here on the road. we're waiting for that team to arrive. southbound highway 1, all lanes will be closed indefinitely this morning. we are in pacifica. we are -- they're diverting traffic at skyline. they have taken the mercedes suv away from the scene. they towed it away. the charger is still here. the charger was going in the wrong way. it was going northbound but on the southbound side of the highway. it crashed head on into a mercedes suv. the driver of the dodge charger was killed. his passenger, a female, was taken to the hospital along with the driver of the mercede. both of them in the hospital. all lanes closed indefinitely as we wait for that investigative

team to arrive. so if you need southbound highway 1 to get into pacifica, you will want to make alternate plans. amy hollyfield, abc7 news. the impeachment trial against president trump officially gets under way in the senate. senators will be sworn in as jurors today just hours after the articles of impeachment were handed over to the senate. this all comes after an associate of president trump's personal attorney, rudy giuliani, makes new bombshell claims. lev parnas, who is facing indictment appeared on msnbc and he said the president was in the loop when it came to pressuring ukraine. >> president trump knew exactly what was going on. he was aware of all of my movements. he -- i wouldn't do anything without the consent of rudy giuliani or the president. >> he handed over new evidence to the house intelligence committee has implicates the president, vice president, attorney general and california congressman devin nunes. giuliani calls the interview a

sad situation. new this morning san jose police are investigating a shooting. it happened just before 10:30 last night on squerry drive and clayton road. detectives cordoned off the area as they continue to investigate. no other details are available at this point. union city police have a new clue in the deadly shooting of two young boys. the shooting happened in the parking lot of an elementary school in november. police released this photo of the car they think is involved. it's a silver toyota camry made between 2014 and 2017. the victims are 11 and 14 years old. police have not ruled out the possibility that the shooting was gang related. the suspects involved in the deadly laptop theft in oakland are due in court. byron reed and javon lee are in court for a plea hearing at 9:00. according to charging documents, lee was involved in taking the laptop and reed was the

suspected getaway driver. shuo zeng died outside the montclair starbucks while trying to get his laptop back. the martinez city council approved a controversial marijuana dispensary near a high school. last night three voted in favor with one abstaining. the city council awarded the dispensary a conditional certificate that will be good for one year so council members can review how it goes. governor newsom is in oakland today talking homelessness. the changes already being made to tackle the problem. the. you're looking live at the big board at the new york stock exchange. we're up about 160 points. another update on how we're doing coming up. san francisco eyeing a big change to the embarcadero in the name of safety. it could make driving on it a bigger challenge. 6:36. all those stories ahead. first checking in with mike and the storm moving in. >> it's moving in, that's the key.

the cold front is out to our we west-northwest. that's where the heaviest of the wet weather will develop. we're waiting for that to push through. once it pushes through the thunderstorms are waiting for us on the other side for the afternoon. here's the heavyrain bearing down on the peninsula. i will adjust that. give me one second here. let me move this further to the east. san francisco, it's going to be there any minute now. about 6:41 if it's not already there. we've got oakland at 6:55. hayward at 7:06, antioch at 7:28. those showers, the nell lows and oranges there, those are the ones that will put down the standing water and make things treacherous to drive around. in that area things are about to get much worse. it's already raining slightly, like we can see here on the richmond side of the richmond-san rafael bridge. here's a look at san rafael, where in the last half hour we

have had about 0.04 inches of rain. not a lot. everything is about to pick up. that's why we'll have poor driving conditions with wet and windy weather, blowing rain if you're on mass transit and the bay commute. it's going to be wet. but it's also going to be rough due to the winds that are going to be blowing up to 45 to 50 miles per hour. that means just about every ferry ride will be impacted through the morning commute. all right. we'll take a look hour-by-hour at this storm as it unfolds on future radar next. here is frances. >> we have footage of this earlier fatal accident in pacifica. highway 1 at manor drive. it happened in the southbound lanes. a driver was traveling northbound and hit a car head on. the driver was pronounced dead at the scene. i want to take you to the maps where it is. there is a hard closure on highway 1 southbound in pacifica. traffic is being detoured off

skyline boulevard, which is slow southbound, you can pop back on at sharp park road. another sigalert around, westbound 4 on the connector ramp to 680. traffic is backed up for miles and causing at least ten-minute delays. a slow ride across the san mateo bridge, west downed, 21-minute trip. you will need both hands on the wheel across the richmond-san rafael bridge. drive time is green. there is a high wind advisory for that bridge and the bay bridge. here's a live shot of the richmond-san rafael bridge toll plaza. it's a wet ride here and a minor backup at the tolls. 680 looking good southbound, especially if you're not involved in that backup on westbound 4 and fine along

francisco, daly city, pacifica into half moon bay. these are moving off to the east. expect puddles and faster gusts out of the winds as this rolls through. you can see how wet it is on the golden gate bridge. here's the big picture. look how fast this storm moves down to big sur, spreading rain as far south as fresno. scattered showers around southern california. 61 down there. look at the heavy snow. we'll start in lake county unkill 6:until 6:00. travel not recommended now for the next 24 hours because of whiteout conditions, up to two feet of snow at pass level down to 2,000 feet. up have 3 feet of snow possible there. getting there tomorrow will be dicey. saturday and sunday, if you can get up there, the powder is waiting for you. it ought to be easier those days. >> just don't go now. mike has been clear about that. homelessness is one of the major challenges we're facing in building a better bay area.

>> happening today, the governor is making his last stop on his statewide homeless tour to see how one community is meeti that challenge. julian glover is in the newsroom with where he will be. >> governor newsom said there will be plenty of help from the state but ending the homeless crisis comes down to what happens in our oakland communities. the oakland coliseum will be the back drop for the oakland governor as he makes his homeless tour. we know part of the governor's solutions will be the 100 disaster relief trailers like these spotted by sky 7 near the coliseum parking lot. tents could also be rolled out to provide temporary housing to the homeless. as the governor toured the state he said more needs to be done to address the gaps in the system when it comes to mental and behavioral health. he had this to stay during his stop in fresno.

now. this fatal accident happened at manor drive, traffic is being detoured off of at skyline boulevard and skyline boulevard is your alternate at this point. it's going to be out there for a while because of the fatal crash as the investigation continues. better news regarding an earlier sigalert, westbound 4 to northbound 680, this earlier crash has been cleared. you can see lots of slow and go traffic westbound 4 is backed up for miles. the bay bridge toll plaza, backed up through the maze right now. there's a high wind advisory for the bay bridge and also the richmond-san rafael bridge. so be extra careful there. you can see it's a wet and slippery ride in the north bay. luckily no major problems reported. southbound 101 traffic on the wright hand side, still looking fairly good. some brake lights there making your way through san rafael. we have slick roads right now as well across the golden gate bridge heading into san francisco. mike's getting ready for the rain heading our way. it's already here in the north bay. >> it is. here's a look at our storm impact scale. it's still a 2 for heavy rain,

gusty breezes up to 45 miles per hour. thunderstorms with lightning and hail on the way for the afternoon. snow on hamilton as we head throughout this event. here's a look at what's going on up in san rafael, nearing 0.10 inches of rain. you can see the spray coming up and the camera shaking. san rafael's camera doesn't shake often. that gives you an idea how breezy it is. rain is moving towards the san mateo bridge. we're looking west towards the peninsula. that's where heavier showers and downpours are rolling on right now. you can see it from san bruno, down to san mateo, still up along 280. as you cross the bridge and heading to the west, you will run into that. right now we have a heavy down four from bayshore, bayview district heading over towards alameda and oakland. within the next five minutes you will get a heavier downpour of rain there. it extends up towards the ridge
