here is what it looks like past the accident, headlights are northbound 285. so traffic is light in the area. bcause this is a fatal accident it will be out there for a while. another live shot in san jose shows highway 87 on the right-hand side. we'll keep you posted on this crash. >> for the second day in a row, frances and amy hollyfield are covering a fatal wrong-way crash. amy is near the scene now. what are you seeing? >> hi, reggie. hard to believe we're doing this two days in a row. another wrong-way driver. i'm at the on-ramp of northbound highway 17. you can see a campbell police officer is parked here not allowing anyone on to the freeway. so just keep this in mind if this is part of your commute. the chp is headed our way right now. they'll escort us on to the highway. we should have a better vantage point in the next few minutes. we'll work on getting you more

pictures from the scene and more information. right now we know a wrong-way driver, this accident was a fatal one. i don't know how long the lanes will be closed. i'll try to gather that information for you. live from campbell, amy hollyfield, abc7 news. >> thank you. >> new overnight, the chp is investigating a fiery crash on northbound 101 in san jose. this was the scene near the story road off-ramp after 11:30 last night. you can see the car still smoldering. one person was reportedly trapped inside the car. we're awaiting on the chp for an update on their condition. the accident triggered a sigalert overnight. in san francisco, a usps truck was involved in a crash on highway 101 heading into the city from the bay bridge. it's unclear what caused the crash. you can see several wheeled containers on the shoulder of the freeway last night. those containers have mail that is usually transported between facilities. no word on where that truck was heading or if any mail was lost.

with a second fatal wrong-way driver crash. we had one yesterday. we have one this morning. northbound 17 before 280 is shut down. this will be shut down as this investigation continues due to the fatal wrong-way driver crash. winchester mrboulevard and basc avenue are your alternates. here's a look at 87 in san jose. we'll check out the rest of the bay area in my next report. >> okay. thank you. this is an unbelievable story. a 14-year-old capitola girl is safe after using social media to escape her kidnappers. >> the teen was rescued from a motel on north 1st street in san jose. >> a suspicious circumstance led san jose place to the e-z 8 motel on north 1st street tuesday morning. officers found 55-year-old albert vasquez leaving a room on

the second floor. inside, the victim, a 14-year-old girl. >> nobody taking nobody's young daughter and kidnapping her like that, that's just is not right. >> reporter: joshua holmes didn't know about the crime that started in cap toll la where vazquez met the girl, drugged her, called two other men. vasquez, salvador and avarenga drove the girl to san jose. pd reports vazquez sexually assaulted her in the vehicle. when they arrived at the e-z 8, they carried her to the room and assaulted her again. other guests call it painful but not shocking. >> i work in the industry, it doesn't surprise me at all. >> reporter: girl used snapchat to let her friends know she was kidnapped. police used features inside the

app to find her. vasquez faces charges of felony false imprisonment, rape by intoxication or controlled substance and several others. all three men were booked into the santa clara county jail. in san jose, amanda dell castillo, abc7 news. andrew yang says he is hopeful. last night he was in the bay area at a campaign raiser. he may not be polling at the top of the democratic pack but he's still hanging on tight in the race. the new york native says he feels a connection with bay area voters. >> many people here in the bay area are working on the future. the people here know what's coming. we need to let the rest of the country know what's coming. >> you're not polling at the top of the field but still hanging in the race. why? do you think you can still win? >> this race is very much up in the air. we've been growing faster than any other campaigns.

my accuweather seven-day forecast, each day this weekend just a little bit warmer. mid to upper 50s on saturday. mid 50s to near 60s on sunday. the rain moves in looks like tuesday is our next treacherous commute. let's talk to frances about this morning. good morning. >> good morning. back to our traffic alert in the south bay, there's a wrong-way fatal crash. this is on northbound 17 in the campbell area just past hamilton. at one point all lanes shut down on the freeway. you can see footage here of the cars involved in the crash. we are now hearing that the left lane is open. let me take you to the maps. northbound 17 was closed at hamilton, but with the left lane open, there doesn't seem to be much of a backup now on northbound 17 as you make your way through campbell. we got reports of another second accident in san jose, northbound 101 from 880, injuries involved

there. that will slow things down on northbound 101. the rest of the bay area, 680 in walnut creek, that is moving southbound towards highway 24. no major problems there. check out the foggy commute in the north bay. a live shot of 101 shows traffic is light heading southbound on the right-hand side. the morning commute is dealing with some fog through parts of the north bay. and drive times, delay-free. southbound 680, walnut creek to dublin, southbound 101, santa rosa to san francisco is 47 minutes. northbound 17 where we have that fatal crash, delay-free at this point. highway 1 to los gatos, 22 minutes. facebook is backing away from a plan to put ads in whatsapp. get ready for a smart contact lens. >> in today's tech bytes, a major reversal for facebook. for now the tech giant is ditching controversial plans to sell ads on watthatsapp.

amount of time criminals spend on probation. instead of five years probation, a felon would get two years. he said the move would free up money spent up keeping tabs on them so more resources could help them early on. he thinks it would provide money for programs aimed at keeping criminals out of jail. a california teen is getting nationwide attention because she is now on the box of girl scout cookies. 14-year-old caitlin rooney beat out 25,000 other girl scouts for the honor. she won a trip to new york city to meet with female entrepreneurs and a chance to star on one of the cookie bockes. now she's going to be on the front of every box of trefoils. >> if you look closely at the boxes, you can see what the girls are doing. on my box we're doing public speaking. i hope to be a role model for other people. if she did this, i can do this. >> it was challenging for her to get to this stage.
