. that breaking news is from the south bay. highway 17 in campbell is now closed a a wrong-way driver crashed. lanes are blocked right now and this is, of course, impacting the early morning commute. good morning on this friday, january 17th. i'm reggie aqui. >> i'm liz kreutz. let's get over to amy hollyfield live in campbell. good morning. >> good morning. we've just learned the driver who died in this crash was an asian woman in her late 20s. she was driving an avalon. they got the call she was going the wrong way on 880 at coleman and then crashed here in the northbound lane on highway 17 around hamilton. she crashed head on -- she

crashed into an avalon. she was driving an accord. the driver of the avalon was transported to the hospital, but the chp tells me he was conscious and walking around. so it sounds like he's going to be okay. they don't -- the coroner is here on the scene. the car is still here. it has not been towed away. they are thinking these lanes will be closed for another hour. they hope to get all of this reopened within the hour. if you need to le leave the hou within the next hour and need this stretch of highway, you need to make other plans. amy hollyfield, abc7 news. >> thanks. we will show you on the maps where that is. this is in the south bay, northbound 17 between hamiltoha. all lanes were shut down, then possibly we heard the left lane

levi stadium. you can expect to pay some big bucks if you plan on trying to catch the game. $350 for standing room only. $10,000 for vip seats. we have a couple of warnings from team executives about potential counterfeit ticket scams. there are virtually no paper tickets still being issued by the team. if someone tries to sell you one of those, it's likely a fake. all tickets must be transferred through a team app. that's how you should expect to receive a ticket. a screen shot of the ticket will not get you into the game. gate attendants must scan the ticket on your mobile app. we are told there were no reports of ticket fraud during the nfc divisional game but the team warned you should still be on the lookout. >> what happens is you won't know that until you come into the game. you spend 200, 500, $1,000 for a ticket, you come to the game, we tell you i'm sorry, that ticket is invalid.

i am going to kill you. >> reporter: candace pearson says her son was threatened by now former sophomore at the sacred heart cathedral preparatory. threats were made and a song released. white superior because i am a racist ♪ >> reporter: the song got around social media, students notified parents but school didn't notify the parents. >> none of the parents got a phone call, an eemail, nobody gt anything. >> reporter: a town hall meeting was held. >> a parent called the police, not the school, not the principal, not the authorities. >> reporter: inside the meeting, police addressed parents and students. they said three hours after the report was made, they searched the student's home and found the threat not credible. not at meeting was the principal. >> i don't have faith in the principal at all. i think he should be fired. i don't have faith in the dean at all, i think he should be

fired. >> reporter: sacred heart released this statement. as an institution we extend heartfelt apology for anxiety and uncertainty over the past week. >> it's evident they dropped the ball when it came to communication. moving forward, how do we make sure not only our babies but everybody feels safe? >> reporter: in san francisco, lauren martinez, abc7 news. much of our effort to build a better bay area is focused on finding solutions to the homeless crisis. governor newsom says he feels encouraged after his four-day homelessness tour that came to an end in oakland. at a vacant lot near the coliseum, the governor unveiled 15 former fema trailers that will provide temporary housing for 50 to 70 people. it's a small part of a larger plan to provide emergency services for an estimated 150,000 californians without housing. as for the homeless moms evicted tuesday from an oakland house,

newsom says he will meet with them soon. in the east bay, remember baca kaplan has a plan to help the homeless. she is calling for the city to buy homes. kaplan says the city needs an all hands on decay proach to de deck approach to deal with homelessness. according to u.s. kren cucensus there are nearly 14,000 vacant homes. the first female coach has been hired in mlb. she will be one of gabe kapler's assistants this season. they joined the team in 2014 as an intern. she will be in uniform.

here's the 7 things to know this morning. number one, we have breaking news in the south bay where the chp now confirms a driver involved in a wrong-way crash in campbell has died. northbound 17 at hamilton is shut down with one lane just reopening moments ago. we are getting conflicting reports on the left lane being opened or closed. if you want to avoid that stretch where there could be a full closure northbound 17 from hamilton to 280, consider winchester boulevard and bascom avenue as detours. number three, a usps truck was involved in an accident on highway 101 heading into san francisco from the bay bridge. it is unclear what caused the

crash but several wheeled containers ended up on the shoulder. no word on where the truck was heading or if mail was lost. number four, yesterday's rain turned into fog as you can see here in san rafael. now, as we head through the weekend, that's our driest stretch of the seven-day forecast and our warmest as temperatures will hit the 60s by sunday. democrat michael bloomberg is bringing his presidential campaign to the bay area. he is set to have coffee this morning with oakland mayor libby schaaf at a b.a.r.t. station. >> number six says call it a tiktok takeover. a new report says americans spent 85 million hours on the popular app last year. that's a 375% increase from 2018. people are now spending more time on their phones using tiktok than other apps like amazon prime video. >> you're kidding me. number seven, just two more days until the 49ers battle the packers in the nfc championship game. yesterday tight end gornl keorg

kittle returned to practice as he nurses a sore ankle. kickoff is 3:40 sunday. gap is calling off its plans to spin off old navy. the san francisco-based clothing company says the cost of splitting the brands would not benefit the company the way gap had initially hoped. gap's president and ceo is also stepping down. the news comes after the brand struggled in sales over the past few months. the company first announced plans to spin off old navy last year to improve the brand's image and popularity. the wife of andrew yang says voters inspired her to come forward about being sexually assaulted. evelyn yang spoke to cnn about this yesterday. she says her ob-gyn at columbia university assaulted her during an exam in 2012 while she was pregnant. she eventually learned other women reported similar stories to authorities. >> what happened to me should have never happened. that's what's very painful is

knowing that actually what happened to me could have been prevented. >> dr. robert haddon pled guilty in 2016 to two charges. in the legal filing haddon denied yang's allegations. san francisco's pride membership has voted to ban google and youtube from the pride parade, but it may not end up meaning much. according to the examiner, the membership says google has allowed people to harass the lgbtq community on platforms like youtube. however the membership doesn't make the decision. sf pride's board of directors does. they vote on the policies for the organization. sf pride is consulting the organization's legal team on the impact of the recommendation. google declined comment. well, people say there's a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. look at this. this was spotted at candlestick park. the former home of the 49ers. so, for the faithful, it could

lane really is open approaching 280. and traffic is not slow through the area. we have some green traffic. so traffic is light this friday morning. here's a live shot of 280 and 17. you can see cars are coming on northbound 17 from the right hand part of your screen moving across. so cars are getting by. headlights are on northbound 280 moving towards the bottom of the screen. drive times looking good on northbound 17, highway 1 to los gatos is green at 21 minutes. mass transit, b.a.r.t. reporting no delays, ace train number 1 is running ten minutes late. they had delays the last couple of days. here's a live shot of the richmond-san rafael bridge. traffic is light. in fact, it's looking good on all bay area bridges right now at this point. we have a new crash on the pins, north 101 at oyster point. more details on that in my next report. >> thanks. in today's "gma" first look, new details about a dramatic rescue caught on camera.

wonderland. absolutely love seeing that. here's the byproduct of the rain. if you're in the central valley, one of our super commuters, about to go from fog. if you're heading east on 205, and 580 into clearing conditions. you will start off foggy, it will improve. up in the north bay, thick fog around healdsburg, windsor, down around santa rosa and that extends down through petaluma, novato, lucas valley and san rafael. here's a look at that thick fog. temperatures 38 to 40 for most of us at 7:00. 51 to 53 partly cloudy. 53 to 54 at 4:00. 44 to 48, grab a heavier coat but know it will be dry. good morning. >> good morning. we had an early morning fatal crash in the south bay. here's some early footage of the wrong-way driver, northbound 17 was closed approaching 280. right now northbound 17, the on-ramp from hamilton is shut

down, but the left lane has been reopened. i'll show you where that is. there is some heavy traffic right along that stretch now that has just been reopened on northbound 17 as you make your way from campbell up towards 280. but it's a short stretch. so detours are not necessary at this point. and everywhere else we have green traffic through the south bay. there was an -- there is a new problem on the peninsula, southbound 101 at oyster point, a motorcycle injury crash. amy hollyfield is near the fatal accident to bring us more details. amy? >> they kicked us off the highway which is always a good sign, that means lanes are about to reopen. so highway 17 returning to normal in time for many peoples commute this morning. they tell us a woman in her late 20s was driving the wrong way on northbound highway 17 in campbe campbell, this is near hamilton.

she was driving a honda accord and drove into an avalon. the driver of the avalon was up and walking around after the accident. he was taken to the hospital to be treated. but it looks like he'll be all right. the woman did not survive this crash. at this time they don't why she was driving the wrong way. there's nothing obvious to suggest drugs or alcohol. they are warning all of us to be careful especially late at night when we get on to the freeway. >> we have to pay attention where we're getting on to the freeway. a lot of times people may be going to work late, pay attention to signs and the direction of travel we're going. >> he says they got calls that she was driving the wrong way on 880 at coleman. she crashed on highway 17. they believe she was driving in the middle lane. she was killed. a woman in her late 20s. the male driver of the other car

was taken to the hospital to be treated. no one else was involved. reporting live in campbell, amy hollyfield, abc7 news. >> thank you, amy. new overnight, the chp is investigating a fiery crash on northbound 101 in san jose. this was the scene near the story road off-ramp shortly after 11:30 last night. you can see the car there still smoldering. one person was trapped inside that car. we're waiting on the chp for an update on their condition. the accident triggered a sigalert overnight. all lanes are reopened. in san francisco, a usps truck was involved in a crash on highway 101 heading into the city from the bay bridge. it's unclear what caused the crash. you can see several wheeled containers on the shoulder of the freeway last night. those containers have mail that is usually transported between facilities. no word on where that truck was heading or if any mail was lost. a 14-year-old capitola girl is safe after using social media to escape her kidnappers.

this is a remarkable story. police say the teen was rescued from the e-z 8 motel on north 1st street in san jose on tuesday. officers say 55-year-old albert vasquez met the girl, drugged her and then called two other men. they drove the girl to san jose, when they arrived at the e-z 8 police say that the men carried her to a room where vasquez assaulted her. >> nobody should be taking nobody's young daughter and kidnapping her like that. that's not right. you know, i have daughters. i understand. >> police say the girl used snapchat to let her friends know she had been kidnapped because she didn't know where she was. her friends used features within the app to pinpoint the location and call 911. your voice your vote. democratic presidential candidate andrew yang says he is hopeful ahead of the upcoming primary season and so are his supporters. last night he was in the bay area at a campaign fund-raiser. he may not be polling at the top

roberts was sworn in to preside over the trial yesterday. he then swore in the senate to act as jurors in the trial. earlier in the day the senators sat at their desk as adam schiff read the articles of impeachment. the trial is focused on president trump's handling of ukraine. the president maintains he did nothing illegal. happening in the north bay, an emergency town hall meeting to address community concerns about a new site for the homeless in santa rosa. supervisors voted to move these people to los guilicos park from the joe rodota trail. the park is near oakmont neighborhoods and a home for abused children and a juvenile detention facility. the town tall hea hall starts a this morning. in the north bay, people had to deal with soggy streets in marin county. lehman lane felt the brunt of the storm there. home owners say they complained to the county about flood
