thanks for joining us. we're following breaking news. >> another wrong-way driver on a highway. this is the second day in a row this has happened. it's once again fatal. amy hollyfield is live at that scene. we'll get to her in a second. as you get out the door, a look at your weather. here is mike nicco. >> we have that tule fog in the central valley. creeping across tracy, discovery bay, fairfield. we have our own in santa rosa down to novato. we have some dangerously low visibility for the morning commute. you can see heading south on 101 through sshan rafael, you will n into it. as you get further to the north, you will run into more thick fog. that will be the biggest issue this morning. that and if you live inland, you're scraping ice off your car. 35 to 38, bay and inland. 40 at the coast at 7:00. 51 to 53, partly cloudy at noon. 53 to 54 at 4:00. enjoy a quiet evening but dress

warm, 44 to 48. more on what's going on on the roads, here's frances. >> hi, mike. we're starting off with a live shot of the san mateo bridge. this looks like our new hot spot. westbound traffic, we're seeing a lot of brake lights from hayward out towards san mateo. a crash has been reported near the high rise. is the drive time across the san mateo bridge is 30 minutes. you may want to consider the dumbarton bridge or the bay bridge right now. metering lights have not been turned on. we have seen friday light traffic here heading into san francisco. i'm also starting to see crowding on the upper deck. metering lights may be turned on at some point. we're following a motorcycle injury crash on the peninsula, southbound 101 past candlestick. traffic is slow. 280 is an alternate. then that earlier 280 crash in the south bay, rather highway 17 has been cleared. the drive time, northbound 17, highway 1 to los gatos is green at 22 minutes. that early morning fatal

accident cleared from the lanes from campbell up towards san jose. amy hollyfield was live right at scene. she's bringing us more details. amy? >> hi, frances. the scene is cleared. all lanes have reopened. we have video to show you of what that scene looked like. a wrong-way driver was killed going south on the northbound side of highway 17 in campbell. they got calls about the driver going the wrong way on 880 at coleman. the crash didn't happen until highway 17. >> the toyota avalon had a male driver. that was found in the center median upon our arrival. the honda accord had an asian female driver in her late 20s, she was found on the right shoulder. >> the driver of the avalon was taken to the hospital, but officers say he was conscious, walking around. so it looks like he will be okay. it was the driver of the accord who was killed. officers say at this time it

doesn't appear that alcohol was a factor. reporting live in campbell, amy hollyfield, abc7 news. >> thank you. a uc berkeley finance executive has been arrested on suspicion of possessing child pornography. berkeley police arrested the man yesterday after a tip was sent. the chronicle said he was released from jail as is protocol for misdemeanor offenses. police say they found pornographic images on one account and on one laptop he owns. much of our effort to build a better area is focused on finding solutions to the homeless crisis. governor newsom says he feels encouraged after his four day homelessness tour came to an end yesterday in oakland. this happened at a vacant lot near the coliseum, the governor unveiled 15 former fema trailers that will provide temporary housing

and medical services to help an estimated 150,000 californians without housing. as for the homeless moms evicted tuesday from an oakland house, newsom says he will meet with them soon. >> in the east bay, rebecca kaplan has a plan to help the homeless. she has a plan to buy homes at auctions to help people with affordable housing. according to u.s. census data there are nearly 14,000 vacant homes. the 49ers versus the packers as levi stadium hosts the nfc championship game for the first time. the countdown is two days away now. julian glover is live in santa clara with a preview. good morning. >> good morning.

students notified parents, but the school did not. last night they attended a town hall to address why it took the school five days to take action against the students. >> the only reason why there was an investigation is because a parent called the police, not the school, not the principal, not the authorities. >> sacred heart released a statement. as an institution we extend a heart felt apology for the anxiety felt over this past week. san francisco's pride membership has voted to ban google and youtube from the pride parade, but it may not end up meaning much. according to the examiner, the membership says google has allowed people to harass the lgbtq community on platforms like youtube. however the membership doesn't make the decision. sf pride's board of directors does. they vote on the policies for the organization. sf pride is consulting the organization's legal team on the impact of the recommendation. google declined comment.

drier by the moment. it was damp earlier this morning. three quarters of an inch of rain fell yesterday. today the drying begins. it will be cold tonight through tomorrow. the next storm is coming next week. here's live doppler 7. you can see it is pretty quiet. put it into motion, these blips off the shore are cities right there. this storm will head to the north. we'll be in the warmer sector of it. the clouds will overrun us today, tomorrow and sunday. the temperatures will climb a bit as we get deeper into that air mass. today it's in the 40s for lake port and yucaipa. 52 in napa, vallejo and richmond. 57 in san jose. the warm spot around 54 in oakland, 53 in san francisco. mid 30s to upper 30s in many areas. some 40s tonight around richmond, oakland, san mateo, half moon bay. some of the deepest inland valleys could be frosty like this morning. definitely fog out there for sure. 56 to 58.

a couple degrees warmer for tomorrow, sunday and monday. that puts us in the low 60s except for at coast. monday night into tuesday, a 1 on the storm impact scale. that rolls in our next rough commute which will be tuesday morning when it's wet. what's going on this morning, frances? >> mike, we have some slow traffic on the san mateo bridge. this is our slowest spot. you can see here on the westbound direction, traffic is jammed for about five miles from the toll plaza up towards the high rise. there's a two-car crash that may be blocking the right lane. the dumbarton bridge is moving well. the drive across the san mateo bridge has quite a few delays. delay-free across the richmond-san rafael bridge. looking great at the bay bridge toll plaza. there are a few problems on 880. northbound 880 at alvarado nils, traffic is slowing approaching an accident in the two left lanes. a box truck facing sideways. northbound 880, very heavy again approaching 23rd in oakland because of a stall blocking the

i've been getting asked about the drought, our rain season has been pretty dry. we're about 52% of average in

oakland to about 81% in santa rosa. so far no drought here. no drought across the state. even the sierra snow pack is running below average at 76%. that's not creating drought conditions as we speak. we'll look at the warm weekend and then some rain next week coming up in the accuweather seven-day forecast. new overnight, eminem dropped a surprise album and the first music video is a call to action to end gun violence. the rapper released the video "darkness" which reimagines the 2017 las vegas shooting and the gilroy garlic festival shooting. eminem has a video paired with several gun violence prevention resources on his website. he surprised fans by tweeting the news of the release of his 11th album. he wrote it's your funeral next to the image of an alter alter r

of the livermore valley. if you drive in the area or drive by there, you will be waking up to a beautiful winter wonderland. a lot of people are anticipating looking at the mountains to see who will receive snow. above 3,000 feet, more than likely you will have snow up there. we have fog in the central valley. going into the altamont pass, it's hard to see. once you get on the other side, it's clearer. same thing for discovery bay heading down highway 4. thick fog up in the north bay around santa rosa to healdsburg. further south heading down to novato and san rafael. this will be your biggest challenge for the commute as we look at how low the visibility is there. temperatures in the mid 30s to 40. we'll be in the low to mid 50s with high clouds and sunshine the rest of the afternoon. hi, frances. >> hi, mike. good morning. the san mateo bridge is the spot to avoid this morning. it is just crawling westbound as you make your way out of hayward up towards the incline section. i saw chp just head up the shoulder there.

reportedly a crash along the incline. the drive times have grown. it's now a 40-minute ride across the san mateo bridge. so that's double the amount of time it normally takes. westbound dumbarton bridge is looking good. a little bit slow on 880 if you're making your way to the dumbarton bridge. the richmond-san rafael bridge and the bay bridge have been toll free -- rather delay free. ace is reporting 10 to 20-minute delays due to track maintenance and b.a.r.t. reporting 10-minute delays but only on the san francisco to antioch line. the other lines right now are delay-free. the chp is trying to determine the cause of a wrong-way collision in the south bay. >> amy hollyfield has been on the scene all morning. she joins us now with an update. hi, amy. >> two days in a row this has happened. yesterday it was in pacifica. today we're in campbell. this morning a woman in her late 20s was driving a honda accord

the wrong way. she was going southbound on the northbound side of highway 17. she hit a toyota avalon. she was killed in the crash. the other driver was taken to the hospital but appeared to be okay. officers say he was conscious and walking around. officers say this crash is a warning for all of us. >> yeah. we have to pay attention where we're getting on to the freeway. a lot of times people may be going to work late or whatnot. we have to pay attention to the signs and direction of travel. >> they don't know why she was going the wrong way, she was for a while. she got calls of her driving the wrong way on 880 at coleman. she crashed on highway 17 at hamilton. it doesn't appear at this time, according to officers on the scene, that drugs and alcohol were a factor. they are still investigating. all lanes have reopened. so this should not impact your commute at this time. live in campbell, amy hollyfield, abc7 news. >> thank you. new overnight, the chp is

investigating this fiery crash on northbound 101 in san jose. this was the scene near the story road off-ramp after 11:30 last night. you can see the car still smoldering. one person was reportedly trapped inside the car. we're waiting on chp for an update on that person's condition. that crash triggered a sigalert overnight. in san francisco, a usps truck was involved in an accident on highway 101 heading into the city from the bay bridge. it's unclear what caused the crash. you can see several wheeled containers on the shoulder of the freeway. according to usps those containers have mail that is usually transported between facilities. no word on where the truck was heading or if mail was lost. a 14-year-old girl is safe after using social media to escape her kidnappers. the teen was rescued from the e-z 8 motel on north first street on tuesday.

albert vasquez met the girl in capitola, drugged her and met two other gentlemen. they drove her to san jose. the men then carried her to a room where they assaulted her. >> nobody should be taking nobody's young daughter and kidnapping her like that. that's not right. you know, i have daughters. i understand. >> police say the girl used snapchat to let her friends know she had been kidnapped but she didn't know where she was. her friends used features within the app to pinpoint the location and call 911. all three suspects face felony kidnapping charges. michael bloomberg is bringing his presidential campaign to the bay area. he is set to have coffee with libby schaaf at a b.a.r.t. station. he will appear at an organizing event in oakland and then in monterey. andrew yang says he is hopeful. last night he was in the bay

area at a campaign raiser. he may not be polling at the top of the democratic pack but he's still hanging on tight in the race. the new york native says he feels a connection with bay area voters. >> many people here in the bay area are working on the future. the people here know what's coming. we need to let the rest of the country know what's coming. >> you're not polling at the top of the field but still hanging in the race. why? do you think you can still win? >> this race is very much up in the air. we've been growing faster than any other campaigns. we're excited about the next few weeks. >> yang says he's looking forward to the iowa caucuses in february and the entire primary season including super tuesday in march when we here in california get to vote. happening today in the north bay s an emergency town hall meeting to address community concerns about a new site for the homeless in santa rosa. supervisors voted to move the people to los guilicos park from the joe rodota trail. the park is near oakmont neighborhoods and a home for abused children and a juvenile detention facility.

the town hall starts at 9:00 this morning in oakmont. county staff, law enforcement and the shelter operator will be there. this morning streets are starting to dry out following yesterday's storms. >> in the north bay, residents had to deal with soggy streets in homestead valley. residents along lehman lane felt the brunt of the storm. rainwater flowed down the mountain through their yards and down the street.owners say they complained to the county about flood control for years but nothing has been done. >> it's a beautiful, natural surrounding, when we saw the creek overflowing, understanding the county wasn't doing anything about it, it's frustrating. >> along highway 175 in lake county it was an entirely different site with snow falling on cobb mountain. it looked a bit more like lake tahoe. doz dozens of people are getting sick after visiting yosemite

the deeper valleys. avalanche warning for about another 16 minutes or so in the sierra because of the heavy snow. snow showers still falling, they will taper throughout the day. the winter storm warning was dropped at 6:00. down in southern california, mid to upper 60s with increasing sunshine. rain around eureka. snow in tahoe will have to wait until tuesday. plenty of fresh powder. up to two feet for your skiing pleasure this weekend. developing news, yosemite national park officials are investigating 170 reports of gastrointestinal illnesses. >> park officials have confirmed two cases of neuro virus. reports began earlier this month but decreased recently. officials say it's unclear where the outbreak originated. the park has been working with concession owners to disinfect public buildings, restaurants and other facilities. your fitbit could be doing more than tracking your steps. it may help health officials stop the flu from spreading. researchers did a study on this.

they looked at the data from 200,000 fitbit users and were able to predict flu outbreaks. researchers tracked deviations in heart rate and sleep patterns which tend to change when a person has the flu. this is the first time heart rate trackers and sleep data were used to predict the flu in altime. it's a tiktok takeover. a new report says americans spent 85 million hours on that popular app last year. >> that's a 375% increase from 2018. people are spending more time on their phones using tiktok rather than apps like amazon prime video. users are turning to their phones to stream things more frequently. >> all right. bose is closing all of its stores in north america. the locations are in palo alto, san francisco, san jose, milpitas and livermore. the business journal reports the company is offering to help employees find new jobs.

you want to keep these in mind if you're looking for a ticket. they're going from 350 bucks for standing room only to $10,000 for those vip seats. this morning those 49ers team executives are warning of a potential counterfeit ticket scam. here are a few things to keep in mind. virtually no paper tickets are being issued by the team. if someone tries to sell you a paper ticket, it's likely a fake. all tickets must be transferred through a team app. that's how you should be expecting to receive a ticket if you are buying it online. and lastly, a screen shot of the ticket will not get you into the game. the gate attendants must scan the mobile app. we're told there were no reports of ticket fraud during the nfc divisional game but the game is warning for you to be on the lookout. now, if you're not going to pay big bucks to get into the game, catch it at a watch party. there's one in san francisco at spinoff, and down in san jose a few hours from santa clara, fans will be packing sb2 in san pedro

it is 6:54. whether you're just joining us or about to go out the door, here's 7 things to know before you go. breaking news in the south bay, a woman was killed in a wrong-way crash on highway 17 in campbell. all lanes are now reopened. the driver of the car that she hit is in the hospital. he is expected to survive. number two, a usps truck was involved in an accident on highway 101 heading into san francisco from the bay bridge. it's unclear what caused the crash. several wheeled containers ended up on the shoulder. no word on where the truck was heading. number three, major delays across the san mateo bridge in the westbound direction because of an earlier accident. the drive time across the span is 47 minutes. >> major issues with fog on the 101 in the north bay and out in the central valley around highway 4 in the eastern parts of contra costa county.
