better bay area. this is abc 7 mornings. good morning, good morning. and thanks for start going the right way with us. i'm julian glover. it's a saturday morning. january the 18th. we have so much to talk about this morning. as always we start with a look at the forecast with lisa argen. >> julian, good morning to you. starting out with the clouds. you can see live doppler seven and we say rain free over the weekend. the clouds filter in sunshine throughout the day. but we'll call it partly cloudy. right now chilly in parts of the bay. look at 39 in san jose. san ramon. 37 in livermore. fog in santa rosa at 39. and 47 downtown with the cloud

cover milder, two to six degrees milder. through the day we'll have the cool temperatures to start out. by lurk near 50 degrees. you can see clouds across parts of the bay. but into the afternoon a few more clouds, peeks of son mid-50s to upper 50s. and we'll talk about another dry day which will end the weekend and of course the 49er game and also the next chance of rain coming up in a few minutes. jewelen >> we'll see you then. thank you, lisa. >> it's finally nfc championship weekend. the bay area buzzing this morning. the 49ers taking on the packers at home to win a trip to the super bowl. if you remember the niner dominated the packers in the regular season matchup. today a couple of niners greats get you ready for the championship. roger craig and did he bow samuel they'll be holding a rally. there is d.j. face paint, players signing gear. the people by the store too.

not just there. 49ers gear is tough to come by across the bay at this point. fans ready to rock the red and gold in style. abc 7 south bay community journalist dusty dorsey found out some popular items are sold out already. >> levi stadium, you know this place is going to be packed this weekend for the nfc championship game between the 49ers and the packers. but the team store has been packed all week long. friday was no exception. everyone is trying to get the last-minute fan gear ready for sunday. lets check it out. gear has been flying off the shelf at the stadium store with many items selling out. plenty of popular choices like jimmy garoppolo jerseying george kittle things and cold weather gear for the game sunday. >> what did you buy. >> i got me a key choi a. >> i got the bosa and kit willing penants.

>> if all goes well for the 49ers fans will be back at the nfc store for the champion gear. if you're not lucky enough to be here sunday at the store. you can go down the road to select dig's sporting goods locations including here at the great mall. grab your piece of history. >> we are starting to accumulate that now and hope they clench the victory. we got to get the win first. >> somewhere between the eight to ten stars will be staying between sunday night and early monday to get the swag. these dig's stores have had their share of practice for the championship practice thanks to the golden state warriors. >> is prepared for the madness about to occur. we've been through this a few times. and it makes us that much more excited to celebrate a different team in the bay. >> back here sunday night, monday we'll have friends come over and buy too. >> we'll be back.

mercedes on campbell street near 880 and grand. chp says some time overnight the driver was pulled over forespeeding by the treasure island tumble but then took off towards oakland. chp eventually caught and arrested the driver at the crash. we have dwefrmg news to tell but this morning. starting today travelers arriving from a specific part of china may undergo extra screening because of outbreak of a virus. the centers for disease control have stations set up at sfo and jfk. and lax. corona virus has symptoms like the cold can lead to sthoem snumia. they will focus on a small group of travel zbleers we're talking about a maximum of 175 people involved in this. again they are diverted into appear separate area. >> the cdc says if the situation at huan gets worse then screening will expand to more

airports. now more developing news. a mother killed by a hit-and-run driver on her way to pick up her daughter from school. the alameda county coroner iechg her as miesha singleton. the 40-year-old mother lived in san leandro. happening near bancroft and 98th avenue. lauren martinez has the story. >> it's just really sad. >> 3:15 friday afternoon a mother walking across the crosswalk in front of elmhurst united middle school was killed by a hit-and-run driver. >> the car sped off and left her on the ground. i don't know how many kids were outside. it could have been a hundred or more. and a lot saw what happened. >> now school staff says it's not uncommon for drivers to speed here on 98th avenue. >> with traffic being up, backed up, kids out everything going on, you have to slow down. >> police are looking for the driver responsible. the.

>> vehicle is a newer nissan maxima abwhite in color and damage to the passenger side windshield. >> we need people to slow down because it could be your friend, your child, your aunt, uncle, who knows this could be someone you love. now their life is over. >> in oakland, lorin martinez, abc 7. >> shifting attention now a skier dead after an avalanche at a ski resort near tahoe. we learn new details from his wife about his passion for the snow. the avalanche happened at 10:15 yesterday morning. just west of the lake tahoe. abc 7 news reporter wayne friedman has the details. >> at alpine meadows quiet broken only by the sound of grooming snowplows any bee lie the day that began with the best of times and finished with the worst. >> when the alarm sounded it may have been too late for two skiers up above on a difficult section known as subway. witnesses saw both men racing to beat the avalanche piling down.

remains under investigation. >> i want him here next to me forever but i know he was doing the thing he loved. and i know that he didn't suffer. >> cole comstock was 34 years old. at alpine meadows wayne friedman, abc 7 news. and happening today, the annual women's march takes place in cities including here in the bay area. in san francisco, the rally starts at 11:30 this morning at civic center plaza. the march starts at 1:30 up market street to the embarcadero. in oakland participants gather at frank ogauway plaszcz at 10 "a" under broadway to grand and union down to telegraph and back to the plaza. the san jose women's march will start at 11:00 a.m. from city hall. participants march to arena green park. the crowds aren't expected as big as in previous years but could still disrupt traffic and transit too. the women's march was held after president trump's inauguration

colgate optic white. whitening that works. welcome back. and good morning to you. we're taking a live look from the abc 7 roof cam in san francisco. beautiful shot looking down the embarcadero. still dark and early as you wake up with us. 5:15 is the current time. new developments this morning in a story out of los angeles that has been getting a lot of national attention. parents packed a meeting to express anger after their children were doused with jet fuel while playing in a school yard. you probably heard about this. a delta airlines jumbo jet dumped fuel making a safe emergency landing. a fwrup of teachers suing delta. more than 60 children and adults needed medical attention. at first the airline says they followed normal procedures now not commenting now a lawsuit is involved. former san francisco

supervisor and district attorney terence halanan died yesterday. he fs was praised for progressive policies and reform. but critics pointed him to having the lowest conviction rate of any d.a. in california. a former prosecutors said the attorney cared little what others thought about him. >> once he had his mind made up about something that's what he was going to do. he didn't really care about the repercussions, political good will. >> he lost a bid for a third term as d.a. in 2003 before returning to the private practice. he was 83 years old. in the south bay now a 1-year-old girl in santa cruz after police say her father kidnapped her. we were live on the air as the child was reunited her maternal grandmother. investigators say brian seleen kidnapped his daughter from his estranged girlfriend. once he was tracked down at a friend's apartment seleen refusesed to come out for hours.

the baby's grandmother came to the scene to help with negotiations. other family members joined her. >> i just yelled and satisfy screamed for joy she is safe and she is going to be okay and with us and back with us again. >> family members say the baby's mother is currently at a hospital being treated for injuries seleen was arrested. in the north bay now neighbors on edge after a sand rafael homeowner shot at a suspected blower burglar after 10:00 yesterday morning and sand marino drive. cornell bernhard has the story. >> it's interesting the neighbor was armed and took defensive action. >> some neighbors praising the action of the horner who called 911 to report a suspected burglary who was trying to break in. >> as we were responding to the call we received additional information that the homeowner had opened fire. >> police say the homeowner told them he had fired at a man who broke a window at the rear of his house.

the suspect described as a stocky man in his 50s. took off in a silver station weighing wagon. it's unknown if he was shot. >> we didn't see anything that would tell us the suspect was injured. >> frightening. it's really frightening. >> marsha schieder was search for her garage for things out of place. while other neighbors worried about more break-ins. >> trouble is this is not the first time. ner seeing an increase in home burglaries across the north bay. these men caught on security camera are wanted for a recent home burglary in novato. authorities believe the same group broke in a short time later in marin wood. police can't say if that crew is connected to the break in here neighbors are on the alert. >> we know all the neighbors in the cul-de-sac and we all watch out. >> the homeowner who police say fired at the suspect is not expected to face weapons charges. he declined to speak with us.

we get into your sunday. but to start out, it's really cool out there. look at all the 30s. 39 right now in dublin. san ramon pleasanton. 42 in mount diablo with 44 in concord. 47 san francisco. upper sthirts in napa. 37 there. 39 fl santa rosa. north wind at five allowing the wind chill to be at 35 to 33 degrees in napa. just above freezing. visibility at a mile in santa rosa. and eight miles in livermore. looking at the exploratorium camera, visibility really not too bad. just in the north bay reduced. otherwise a chilly start for everyone. patchy fog. dry to partly cloudy for the weekend. and lacking at the rain returning about tuesday. so as we look at our weather for today you'll notice that the clouds will be with us 8:00. and then going through the 10:00, 11:00 hour they thin out a bit. we'll call it more. and partly cloudy today.

and high temperatures should be typical for winter. 5 upper 50s in the south bay. a snow pack system brought nearly two feet of snow on thursday allowing for 807% of normal in the sierra. yosemite, 78% of normal. southland here 81% of normal. we're running behind and the rainfall totals as well. about 40% to 550% in oakland. looking at 80% statewood average. any new snow or rain on the horizon there is a bit on monday. and getting into tuesday, notice throughout the afternoon, it looks like the rain will continue to move from the north to the south. so the morning ride could get away with a dry commute on tuesday. but it looks like the rain will be increasing throughout the day. unfortunately this system doesn't look to be a big one. we're talking probably about a quarter of an inch of rain.
