a village of tiny homes springing up in the middle of oakland. but how long will they stay here? the family of the mother of seven who was killed in a hit-and-run are asking for justice tonight. a possible super bowl parade could be around the corner, but the big question, where will it be held? abc7 news starts right now. a live look outside from the kgo roof camera. it is dry right now but it will be different for the morning commute for some. >> you can see the green on our radar screen here is not far from northern california. it's steaming in our direction. let me give you a look at the

numbers. it ranks 1 on the abc7 impact t scale. most locations will receive only up to a quarter of an inch. the north bay will get a bit more than that and the wind will sometimes be breezy, occasionally gusty. our forecast taking us into the overnight hours. by the morning commute, we' see scattered showers to the north bay. by midday we'll see widespread rain and the cold front will continue pushing southward pushing rain across other regions of the area. >> you can track the weather on the go, download our free abc7 news app. major new developments in the deadly hit-and-run of an oakland mother on friday. police say they've now found the vehicle involved, but they haven't caught the driver. >> abc7 news reporter attended a vigil outside the school where the woman was struck and killed.

>> we need justice. we need it. we need it. we don't want it. >> reporter: family and friends are grieving the death of singleton, a mother who was killed by a hit-and-run driver on 98th avenue last friday afternoon. >> she's a wonderful mother of seven. an active leader in our community who had been standing with us against violence. >> reporter: on monday night, her family held a candlelight vigil at the spot where she was hit by a car that killed her in front of elmhurst united middle school. >> slow down! >> reporter: at times her husband yelled at cars he thought were going too fast on the busy corridor. through community tips, police recovered the vehicle involved in oakland. >> we're going to ask the driver to do the right thing and turn yourself in. >> reporter: police say they have strong leads and are processing evidence. >> we have a lot of video surveillance that investigators are going through, before during and after this crimy was

committed. >> reporter: for now, family and friends are asking anyone to help them bring the driver responsible forward. >> we want her memory to be cherished and loved. we want someone reckless to be off our streets so no other families will suffer like this. >> reporter: oakland police are asking for the community to continue sending in tips regarding what happened here on friday afternoon. reporting in oakland, lauren martinez, abc7 news. the search is on for a man wanted for a deadly hit-and-run in berkeley. uc berkeley police trying to pull him over this morning when they heard screams from a woman being punched inside a car on sixth street. the driver sped away with her. drivers say during the pursuit as he turned on university he went wide, hitting and killing a woman on the sauk swa. they're looking for a charcoal gray four-door nissan sedan. gunfire outside the walnut street b.a.r.t. station injured one person.

early reports is the victim was walking from the b.a.r.t. station when he was shot. an employee at a gas station nearby says he heard three loud shots. the investigation shut down streets in the area around rivera avenue and parkside drive for several hours. new at 11:00 -- a woman is under arrest after santa rosa police say she tried to chase down a man in her suv and then shot at him. they released pictures of tire tracks as well as the gun they say they found inside her car. investigators say the woman went after the victim this afternoon because he owed her monday. it happened off highway 12 on do dunton avenue. finding solutions to our homeless crisis is a big part of our mission. in oakland, homeless advocates are building what they call an emergency shelter project. the village of tiny homes is going up on east 12th street and 16th avenue. but will the city allow it to stay? abc7 news reporter cornel bernard is on the story.

>> reporter: volunteers are working nonstop, building about a dozen of these tiny homes on a public median after 12th street. >> there have been homeless people living on this plot of land for the last 12 years. >> reporter: a group called can the village say they're taking action to house homeless people, rest room facilities and showers will be added. >> people deserve a dignified way to exist in the midst of an affordability crisis. >> reporter: brent says he's lived on this median for two years. the tiny homes are a big improvement. >> like a little community. a little apartment complex. it's coming along great. >> the biggest concern for these folks is how long these tiny homes will stay here because the city has already cleared out two other villages set up by the same group. >> we will not treat this encampment any different than we treat any other encampment. >> reporter: the mayor says every homeless camp gets the

same assessment, based on safety, health and size. abc7 news contributor phil ma tear says time will tell about the camp's future. >> one of the big questions here is how long does it stay active snl how long does it stay clean? how long is it something you can show? >> reporter: advocates are vowing to build more tiny shelters like these around the city. abc7 news. major new developments tonight in the fight over a west oakland house. a deal has been struck to sell the home to the moms who illegally occupied it. they will sell in good faith the magnolia house to a nonprofit. they will fix it up and allow the women to move back in. >> i hope this is a clear signal that when you come forward and try and work out a solution, that we are here to help community groups achieve tremendous successes like we are celebrating today. >> the women began squatting in the house in november and stayed there until last week when sheriff's deputies enforced a

judge's order to evict them. a historic moment this week in washington. we are now just hours away from the beginning of president trump's senate impeachment trial. the president left tonight for switzerland to attend the world economic forum. as for the trial, we now know what form it will take. each side will get a total of 24 hours over two days to present their case. that will be followed by 16 hours of questions from there senators. democrats have been pushing to call additional witnesses. >> a trial where there's no evidence, no existing record, and no new evidence, no witnesses, no documents, that isn't a trial at all. it's a cover-up. >> the debate on witnesses will likely come up later in the trial with a vote. democrats would need four republicans to side with them if they are to subpoena witnesses. abc7 news will provide live coverage throughout the trial. look for reports starting tomorrow. the nation's capitol, people

new at 11:00, a mountain line has been euthanized after officials say it attacked a 3-year-old boy. the boy was hiking with his family when the big cat pounced. how a backpack likely saved the child. >> reporter: a brazen mountain lion. >> i'm riding up and she said, hey, be careful, there's a mountain lion. it's up in the tree and it just attacked our child. >> reporter: it happened around 4:15 in whiting ranch in orange county. the family of six enjoying the hiking trials. >> the mountain lion came out of somewhere, attacked the 3-year-old, grabbed him by the neck and started dragging him. the father was carrying a backpack. he threw it at the mountain lion. the mountain lion dropped the 3-year-old, grabbed the backpack and went up into a tree. >> reporter: fellow hikers

stunned by the strange scene in the tree. >> it was unnerving but it had a backpack in its mouth so it caught us off guard. >> reporter: the 3-year-old who suffered a bike bite mark. mountain lions are common in the area. warnings posted throughout the park. area residents capturing many of them on their surveillance cameras. >> within the last three days we've had several of them. five or six sightings. >> reporter: it's unclear if the one involved today is the same one seen prowling the named. leanne suter, abc7 news. we are less than two weeks away, believe it or not, from super bowl liv and there's debate over where a potential bay area parade might be held. >> abc7 news reporter amanda is live at levi stadium where fans weighed in. >> reporter: of course, the 49ers have to win first.

but confidence in the team already has so many fans thinkings about a potential super bowl parade. the big question is where. 49ers fans are still riding the wave of sunday's win. the victory sending the team to the super bowl. but in this quest for sixth championship title, a bay area debate is brewing. we all know the san francisco 49ers play their home games at levi stadium in san sta clara. fans are asking, where would the possible super bowl parade be held? >> i think the parade and everything should be in san francisco. >> it should be in santa clara. that's where levi stadium is. >> reporter: the niners moved to kanldz stick in '71. between '82 and '95 the niners took home five super bowl titles. abc7 news cameras captured celebrations within the city then. the team moved to santa clara for the 2014 season. this is the closest we've come since. >> all those people that were unhappy when the people moved over here, i think that would be

something from them. >> i'm from the south bay. i've been a 49ers fan all my life. i would like it to be in the san francisco area because of the heritage. >> reporter: we reached out to the 49ers and the cities in question when it's appropriate. the 49ers will have our answer. for now the debate between fans continues. >> i think it should be in san francisco because that's where the fan base is. >> you're asking someone who's biased, that lives in santa clara. let's have it here, baby, first time. >> reporter: i posted a poll to twitter. by the end of the damon, 179 people voted. about 43% say san francisco, 17% say santa clara. 7% say san jose. and 33% say, let's just focus on winning. at levi stadium, abc7 news. >> first thing's first. we shouldn't get ahead of ourselves. it's probably the most talked about shirt in the bay area right now. >> it is.

the 49ers' george kittle decided to put on a t-shirt last night featuring a shirtless jimmy garoppolo. >> we were able to track down the creators who are currently at columbia university. they started shirtface.me. >> they sent shirts to several players last week just hoping they might wear them. >> last night after the game i heard everyone screaming. i heard george say, i was saving this for a big moment. i was overwhelmed and felt, oh, my god, it brought validation, this was a good joke and a good idea. >> so, how do they know it was their shirt? you see it right there. that little yellow and pink logo that was on the back. >> those guys are certainly capturing their moment. right now a warning is in effect for dangerous surf along our coast from sonoma county south to mont tery. >> the national weather service is urging people to be careful because there's an increased chance for sneaker waves and rip

currents. >> obviously, aobviously, aboboa this. >> they're up as high as 10 feet high and the surf is rough, as you pointed out. we need to emphasize the possibility of dangerous rip currents and sneaker waves. if you're down along the coastline, stay away from the water's edge. a nice view looking out over san francisco where it's 53 degrees. most locations have temperatures either in the upper 40s or low 50s. same applies to other locations around the bay area as we look westward from the east bay hills camera. 39 degrees at santa rosa. petaluma, napa, fairfield, concord, all in the 40s. the view from emeryville shows the increase in clouds. here's a look at our forecast features. north bay sprinkles will develop in the wee hours of the morning just before the morning commute gets under way. rain will spread southward and

eastward during the afternoon and evening hours. evening commute could be a wet one but a dry pattern will be with us for the remaining of the week. storm impact scale of 1. up to a quarter of an inch of rainfall in most areas. more in the higher elevations. wind will be breezy for the most part and gusty at times. here's our forecast animation. notice by 4:30 a.m., just before the morning commute gets under way, we'll see spotty showers across the north bay. later in the morning, midmorning or so, we'll see a wave of steadier, heavier rain sweeping through the north bay. then it will start to push southward and eastward by made day. down towards gold. gate, pushing on the east bay, through san francisco and down into the south bay later in the afternoon and evening before it winds down late tomorrow night. once again, the evening commute tomorrow will probably be a messy one. overnight lows will generally be in the mid-40s. highs tomorrow in the mid-50s.
