bring you any updates. building a better bay area on b.a.r.t. and getting those broken escalators fixed. >> whether it's worth the many millions it would cost to install them good morning, amy. >> reporter: imagine this escalator covered with a canopy. b.a.r.t. says it would solve all kinds of issues and riders think they think it's a nice idea. the board is looking at buying 22 canopies like this to cover escalators on market street in san francisco. they would protect the escalators from weather but they would also help with security. officials say they would be able to close and lock the stations at street level because they would have a gate and help people feel safer. riders say they would feel better, too. >> i think it's a great idea especially during weather

drivers who take passengers from airports in santa barbara, palm springs can charge up to five times the fare uber sets on a ride. the new feature is only a test and hasn't started in any bay area airports. it's a change in order to comply with california's new worker law. a north bay elementary school is holding an open house after a sign with racist undertones was discovered. it was found last month over the marquee at san pedro elementary school in san rafael. here is a photo from the city school showing the sign that reads got english? the majority of students at san pedro are hispanic. the superintendent says the message is, quote, an expression of ignorance, hate and racism. school officials will be at the open house. the gym isn't just for people, a san jose woman's dog joined in on the class and she shared this video of her dog named tesla getting it. look at tesla. >> so you can see

where we're looking at a pretty good shower from petaluma taking you south through lakeville highway and look at this little cluster south of sears point, the san pablo bay around american canyon. some showers, san rafael, the east bay. we're looking at 30 to 35 mile wind gusts out of the south this morning. it is mile. 50 in campbell. 46 in napa with some fog in the north bay. how much milder? here is the front as it sweeps through the north bay. noontime it's wet but it's the second half of the day where the front pushes through the east bay bringing the gusty winds, the south bay. it does get hung up on the peninsula and the south bay for the evening commute. low to mid-50s north. a morning rain event.

american canyon and highway 12 back westward. we see crockett and black point and also have had the rain up to santa rosa and berkeley. overall we still have the front that has to push on through the bay area. so it's mist and drizzle, a little breezy and then we'll look for midafternoon rain and some spots will see a wet commute tonight. we'll talk about it. >> all right, lisa, thank you. a mountain lion was euthanized after officials say it attacked a 3-year-old boy. >> he was hiking with his family when the big cat just pounced. officials say the mountain lion grabbed the boy by the neck. so his dad threw a backpack at the animal and it let the boy go, grabbed the bag, jumped into a tree. fellow hikers watching all of this were stunned. >> it was a little unnerves but it had a backpack in its mouth. it kind of caught us off guard.

we didn't know why it had a backpack. >> the 3-year-old is recovering in the hospital from some bites and scrapes. he's expected to be okay. people who live in the area said there have been at least five mountain lion sightings in just the last four days. it's not clear if the cat euthanized was the same one they've seen days before. a bay area man is raising money for charity by running eight marathons in just eight days on seven continents. this is brendan watkins. he's running the triple eight quest to raise money for lucille packard children's fund which provides care for children and expectant mothers. he finished his first yesterday in new zealand. today he will run in australia and then tomorrow in singapore. when he's done, he will have run nearly 210 miles in eight days. we salute you. i don't know how you're doing it, sir. >> he's just going to come back to ice, a lot of ice.

news reporter julian glover live. >> reporter: good morning to you both. this morning so many of the neighbors here are beginning to head in for work stopping, looking around wondering what happened last night learning the awful news one of their neighbors was killed in a house fire. we know the smoke and flames started showing at 10:00 last night when the department of public safety started coming to the home and trying to knock down the fire as quickly as possible. we're told when they got to the home they discovered two victims inside the mobile home. one of them being transported to the hospital. the other pronounced dead there at the house. listen in to what neighbors say. >> four or five firemen with the house trying to get it through every window in the house, going out and doing the front. they had already gotten one gentleman out of the house and

get their way this could be over next week. ahead of the historic impeachment showdown democrats blasting republicans. >> senator mcconnell's resolution is a national disgrace. >> reporter: chuck schumer slamming mitch mcconnell's proposed resolution which gives the two sides two days each, 24 hours in all to make their opening arguments and then 16 hours of questions from senators. after that the debate over the issue of witnesses. >> it's clear mcconnell is hellbent on making it much more difficult to get witnesses and documents and intent on rushing the trial through. >> reporter: this as president trmp's lawyer argue in their 110-page brief the process has violated every precedent and every principle of fairness with alan dershowitz claiming the articles of impeachment do not rise to the levels of high

seafood market in wuhan where many cases originated. dr. jennifer ashton on how it's affecting the united states. >> u.s. public health officials are still saying that the risk to the u.s. population is low but we have to be clear we don't yet know how the virus spreads. we don't know how severe it is. >> the cdc is screening passengers arriving at sfo from wuhan. the number of people being screened is small. only 150 passengers arrived from wuhan in the last year. the world health organization is holding an emergency meeting tomorrow to talk about the virus. reggie? a new hampshire father killed a coyote with his barehands after it attacked his toddler. he says the coyote lunged toward him while hiking with his son. the animal then tried to grab the child. that's when he wrestled the coyote.
