good morning. welcome to thursday, january 23rd. >> we're tracking other breaking news on the peninsula this morning. >> we'll start with meteorologist mike nicco. he has a look at your day ahead. >> hi, guys. the weather is one of the quieter stories so far today. a live look at doppler 7, a sprinkle or two trying to roll in over the ocean due to the high clouds. this is evaporating before it reaches the ground. the high clouds taking away the stars that we started with last night as we look from our exploratorium camera at pier 15 back over to san francisco. it is cooler this morning. up to 10 degrees cooler. 44 to 48 degrees at 7:00. fog out there, but mainly staying out in the periphery around yucaipa and the central valley. above average temperatures this afternoon. mid 50s by 7:00. let's check the commute. >> good morning. we are following breaking traffic news in san mateo because of a deadly crash. this is northbound 101 at the peninsula avenue off-ramp.

that off-ramp is shut down by emergency crews. the crash itself happened on airport boulevard. you can also see there's a backup beginning to form here. i want to get to abc7 news reporter amy hollyfield on the scene. amy, you just learned some new information from police that they're looking into this potentially being linked to a home invasion now? >> possibly, jobina. that's what they're looking into. they were on the scene of a home invasion robbery in san mateo, they say they saw vehicles leave the scene. they later got a report from chp about this crash. let me get out of the way so you can see how this ended up. that suv head on, crashing into that concrete barrier. one person was killed. two other people inside were taken to the hospital. that's what the lieutenant told us at the scene. this happened just before 4:00 this morning. we're at airport boulevard in san mateo. he says they don't know yet if this is related to the home invasion. that is what they're

investigating. the off-ramp to airport boulevard on the northbound side of highway 101 is shut down now because they're still here ivestigating. they have shut down this intersem shuinte intersecti intersection. one texted me and asked is this impacting my ability to get to the airport? no. highway 101 is moving fine. we want to make you aware this exit is not available now if you're headed northbound. stay with us as we continue to track this story on whether this is related to that home invasion robbery. they didn't tell us where the robbery happened. he didn't want to say that yet, just possibly they're related and it did happen in san mateo. i asked how the people inside that home are doing, are they okay? he said yes, they're fine. reporting live in san mateo, amy hollyfield, abc7 news. >> appreciate the updates. now we want to tell you about the newest developments with the coronavirus. >> so, here's what we know. china is reporting a new case of this virus in hong kong.

chinese state media report the city of wuhan has shut down all outbound flights and trains as the city of 11 million people remain on virtual lockdown. 17 people are dead and there remains one case in washington state, a patient in seattle is in isolation. >> abc7 news reporter julian glover continues our coverage from sfo with the precautions that airport officials are taking. >> good morning. there's been a lot of talk about the coronavirus and how quickly it's spread. that's why medical experts are pushing awareness. they want you to know the signs and symptoms, and now the cdc is posting a new warning inside of sfo and 13 other airports all across the country warning about the coronavirus and those who may be traveling to or from wuhan or any of the surrounding provinces. it was last weekend that sfo became one of the first airports in the country to begin mandatory screening for the

coronavirus. the flyer at the airport warns if you're traveling to wuhan not to visit animal markets, touch animals, not to handle animal products or be near sick people. it also warns if you get sick within wuhan to contact a doctor and let them know you visited that area asap. as medical experts work to pinpoint how this new novel coronavirus is being spread, don't be freaked out if you come to the airport and you see people wearing masks over their face being extra precautious as medical experts work to determine how this virus is spreading so quickly. julian glover, abc7 news. at the live desk, seattle police are reviewing surveillance video after they say multiple people opened fire in the busiest part of downtown killing one person and wounding seven others.

police say the shooting happened after a dispute outside a mcdonald's around 5:00 yesterday. the victims were found within about a one-block radius. a woman in her 40s died. the youngest victim is a 9-year-old boy. the police chief does not know how many shooters were involved or if any of the people hurt were among the shooters or a part of the argument. no arrests have been announced. this was the third shooting in downtown seattle in a little more than 24 hours. >> thank you. skip is expected to make its case on why it should be allowed back in san francisco. this comes after a new report found two more cases of e-scooter fires that happened in october in golden gate park. the sf examiner said they obtained pictures of burned scooters. skip pulled their scooters last year after a scooter in washington, d.c. caught fire. affordable housing is a key component in our effort to building a better bay area. on the peninsula members of tiny

city are fighting to keep their homes from succumbing to demolition. the city manager tells abc7 news the city is legally obligated to end residential boats at docktown to allow public access to the area. one homeowner says trouble started with one resident across the street. the city said they would provide relocation to boat owners. >> that's where things have gone downhill from there, which i suppose should have been a relocation plan instead of a displacement plan. >> residents were offered money for moving expenses, 11 of the about 70 tenants refused to move. they're now suing thetepod t ir entrances along market street

customs in both english and in mandarin. warning people about the virus. just last weekend sfo became the first airport, one of the first across the country to start screening this mandatory screening of passengers traveling from wuhan for the coronavirus. now this morning this new notice being posted. the flyer you will see posted at the airport warns for two weeks after traveling to wuhan if you feel sick with fever, cough or difficulty breathing call a doctor right away and also tell them that you have traveled to wuhan. this new notice being posted in the customs section of sfo. just yesterday the world helicopter organization met and the body of medical experts, they declined to declare this current outbreak a global health emergency. medical experts right now just calling for vigilance, not anxiety, not panic and awareness is the key as they try to get a grip on this new novel

saturday afternoon. it is a light to moderate event with rain turning into showers. a quarter to three quarters of an inch of rain. 4:30 tomorrow morning, some of those light showers, up around mainly mendocino county. some of them will try to slip into the northwest corner, coastal area of sonoma county. by noon they're gone. during the evening hours friday, we have a chance of rain up in the north bay. this will taper to just drizzle by the time we head into the 8:00 hour saturday. dry for the better part of saturday afternoon until we get into the evening hours. you can see the yellows starting to show up. those will hang around saturday night and sunday. rainfall amounts, let's roll through. you can see that three quarters of an inch up in the north bay. barely a tenth of an inch possible in the south bay. that will fluctuate the next couple of days. until then, enjoy limited sunshine, very mild temperatures, upper 50s to mid 60s even through saturday.
