i think most of the rain will fall while we're sleeping saturday night into sunday morning. i want to get you out the door in case you're leaving, there's less than a quarter mile of visibility in napa, livermore and san jose because of fog. i have a look at the winds, you can see it, they are blowing very lightly offshore. that's why the fog is enveloping san jose. here's a look at 87 as we speak. you can see as you drive north from the shark tank up into mineta san jose international, it's an abyss of fog. be aware of that. mid 40s to upper 40s at 7:00. upper 50s to low 60s this afternoon with high clouds and hazy sunshine. jobina? >> thank you. good morning. i'm looking at some of that fog as well. i'll get to a sigalert that we're following in antioch. this is eastbound 4 before somersville road. injuries have been reported here. two cars are involved. two lanes are blocked.

the chp is running two traffic breaks as well. the positive news to this, it's in the counter commute direction. we are not expecting a major slowdown yesterday. where things are jamming up is in san leandro, southbound 880 at davis street off-ramp. san jose, 101, take your time. visibility is low. growing concerns this morning about the coronavirus outbreak. at least 26 people in china have died. more than 800 people are sick. health officials are looking into a third possible case of the virus here in the u.s. a texas a&m student is self quarantined in his home after returning from china and getting sick. another student at tennessee tech university reported mild sympto smptoms. both of them are being tested for the virus. the first confirmed case in the u.s. is a man living in

>> the immediate risk to the american public is low, however, this situation is evolving quickly, and i do expect more cases in the united states. >> public health officials in alameda county have been monitoring people who showed symptoms after traveling to china. people living in south san jose say thieves are targeting parked cars but they're not the usual smash and grabs we've been seeing across the bay area. neighbors believe the suspects are using bb guns to break windows. police confirm at least three cases of vehicle vandalism in the area since the weekend along vista park drive. there were at least seven reports of damage posted on nextdoor. oftentimes the vandals don't even take anything and it's this senseless vandalism that has residents frustrated. >> it's too much. just stealing packages, things like that. leave us alone. >> neighbors are now parking inside their garages and then also considering adding more surveillance cameras to catch the crooks. the latest in president

trump's impeachment trial. >> today democrats will wrap up opening statements. they spent more than nine hours yesterday arguing that the president violated the constitution. the president's lawyers say abuse of power is not a crime and therefore not an impeachable offense. the white house counsel will begin giving their arguments tomorrow. in the east bay two congressmen hosted a town hall about the impeachment proceedings. representatives mark desongne and mark thompson were joined by a panel of constitutional scholars in martinez. they say the town halls have been wildly popular right now because people have a lot of questions about the proceedings. >> it can be dry. it can be tradition. tradition-bound and it can be confusing to people. these town halls on this subject are very helpful is the feedback i get so people better understand the process. >> he has posted the complete video of the town hall on his facebook account. abc7 will bring you live

right here. the ceilings coming down a car that's had some damage. let's move down, she has one that really took me back for a moment. it's awful to see these images here of peoples homes. despite all of this, school is still in session today in the area. she's going to come around the corner. look at this inside someone's home. the kreel hag come down. the bedroom there. it's such a mess. firefighters are going door to door to make sure people have evacuated. you can see the explosion here happen from someone's front porch. so we know that this explosionus warehouse. at least two people were hurt. authorities are still looking for an employee who is missing now. they've been monitoring the air quality. it appears to be okay. i'll continue to bring you the developments on this breaking story as it happens.

reggie and kumasi. >> thank you. to the latest on the coronavirus. >> the chinese government is working desperately to stop it from downs have been expanded to two more cities. 30 million people are under travel restrictions. the state department has issued a travel warning. thee are no cases of coronavirus in the bay area, but alameda county is doing what it calls aggressive testing of people with symptoms. amy hollyfield is live at sfo where officials are also testing people. >> yes, they're on high alert at airports and hospitals and alameda county says they're preparing in case the virus makes it there. they have tested some people who were presenting some symptoms, were not feeling well. they said they tested less than ten people for the virus. the health department said they found some of them just have the flu. others do need more testing.

they put out an alert to people reminding them to practice good hygiene and call ahead to their doctor's office if they are not feeling well and they have traveled recently to wuhan, china. >> because we are doing these aggressive testings, if and when we detect our first case, our job in public health is to make sure that person is isolated. >> the only confirmed case in the united states is in washington state. a man who travelled from wuhan to seattle. five airports in the united states are screening for the virus including l.a.x. and san francisco. in alameda county, the health department cannot say what cities those people tested live in. reporting live at sfo, amy hollyfield, abc7 news. i'm also tracking the crown that virus outbreak in china.

26 people there have died. more than 800 are stick right now. china expanded lockdowns to two more cities in an effort to contain the disease. the city of wuhan is trying to build a 1,000 bed hospital in six days. that hospital will be dedicated to treating coronavirus patients. here in the u.s., a student in texas and another student in tennessee had developed mild systems. they're being tested for the virus. a traveler who landed at l.a.x. wednesday night was hospitalized as a precaution. as we told you earlier, a man from washington state became the first confirmed case in the u.s. federal authorities are pulling some u.s. diplomats out of china. >> thank you. a major new development in a crime that rocked san francisco's chinatown. there's been another arrest. >> vic lee tweeted the development last night. he said a second suspect is in police custody. three men beat and robbed a man last july in the middle of the afternoon of stockton and pacific streets. a friend of victim walter wong was also attacked. the brazen crime stunned chinatown residents. in october, a 19-year-old man was taken into custody in

connection with the beating. one other suspect is still at large. developing news, the chp has arrested a man suspected in a year-long series of highway attacks in prunedale north of salinas. 52-year-old charles lafferty was taken into custody on wednesday. police say he fired glass marbles at cars using a slingshot. the highway patrol thinks he acted by himself and investigators found him after spotting his gmc truck at the scene of the latest attack earlier this month. kamala harris may be close to endorsing one of her former rival, joe biden. they expect any endorsement will not happen until after the impeachment trial. harris dropped out of the presidential race in december. sources are saying that she and biden have stayed in touch since then. political observers say an endorsement could set up harris to be biden's running mate if he wins the nomination. work is under way on a maj change coming to san francisco's market street. abc7 news was there as city

crews started painting new lane markers along fell and 10th streets feeding on to market. starting wednesday at 6:00 a.m., private cars will be banned. the ban stretches from 10th so main streets heading eastbound and stewart to van nuys in the westbound direction. taxis, commercial drivers, muni and emergency vehicles are exempt. drivers and pedestrians seem split on the change. >> i think making san francisco more walkable is a good thing. >> it's too hard to get around the city already how it is. >> absolutely for it. >> are you? >> yes. >> why? >> it will make market and san francisco so much safer. >> the change is not just about safety. the city hopes it will help speed up public transit. hello plastic. b.a.r.t. is getting rid of paper tickets, and it's impacting some passengers more than others. right now a live look at the big board at the new york stock exchange. we'll have another update on how the markets are doing coming up.

backup now there. things building up. a look at our map again, we have some fog in the area, mike is going to talk about that. hi, mike. >> yeah, fog we talked about yesterday materialized and it is spreading. a look at87, looking north from the shark tank to mineta san jose international, usually a gorgeous shot, full with early morning clear skies, not today. from sutro tower, you can see the fog trying to make its way from the east bay valleys into the east bay. that's something we'll keep an eye on. increasing high clouds as the fog slowly fades. high clouds will slow down the fading of the fog. hazy sunshine and mild conditions this afternoon. best chance for rain will be saturday night into sunday morning. most of us will be sleeping. next week it's trending drier and milder. here's the storm impact scale for saturday and sunday. light to moderate rain. in the north bay, we could get up to three quarters of an inch of rain.
