we'll take you through the pans la. 36th avenue is wet.wet.wet. down down. morgan hills, san martine wet weather and further south you can see into the santa cruz mountains. numbers in the 50s. the front pushes through through about 9:00 hour. so by 10:00 we're dry, mid and upper 50s, partly cloudy in the afternoon. low 60s warmest locations. a chillier night tonight and steadying up for a sunny start to monday. liz. thank you. happening today san francisco 49ers will be heading to miami one week before taking on the kansas city chiefs in super bowl liv. >> you're taking a live look where the team is expected to board a bus to a charter flight. the cheelds will give a proper sendoff and abc 7 news will be there to bring you football

fanfare. years ago there was only a one-week gap between the conference championship and super bowl. it was a mad scramble for players and coaches to get ready. now two-weeks are standard. chris alvarez with a preview of what's to come this week. >> hi, everybody. chris alvarez here in miami for super bowl week between the 49ers and kansas city. this week was the bye week leading up to next week's game. kyle shanahan said if they had to play, he's ready. >> it's nice. if we have to play sunday, we'd be ready. any time you go through a week like this, go through a normal week and not have a game on sunday. nice to have a long plane ride and go through the whole week. we'll start over monday and tuesday where we don't have to reinvent the wheel. we know we have. we have a week of tape where we clean stuff up and take stuff out. some more stuff come to us and put stuff in. >> both teams set to arrive kansas city around 4:40 eastern time. san francisco after 7:00 here local time. one of the first things you'll notice when you get off the

plane, it is warm here. a lot of people in shorts and t-shirts. there was stuff we saw in the airport. a tropical shirt that might be purchased, pretty cool. super bowl liv, set to go from the airport across this whole area getting ready for that game. with the 49ers, chris alvarez, abc 7 sports. >> when in miami, right? a few niners made time before lead for the game. emmanuel sanders signed autographs yesterday at the dick's sporting goods on blossom hill road. a huge crowd and people started lining up hours before sanders showed up. this is similar to what happened friday when they signed autographs. there was excitement to see one of the niners stars. >> we got our jersey signed. woo-hoo. emanuel is great. they are going win. >> great to see emmanuel sanders. he brings a lot to the table.

stretches the field. he was a great acquisition. he didn't have a bye this year. it was really worth it. it's amazing to have him on the team. >> in my mind, going out to win. obviously the super bowl is a big event. at the same time we're going out there to handle business so we're trying to win. >> a few fans showed up with denver broncos jerseys, a team sanders won a super bowl with. abc 7 news has a team of reporters headed to miami along with chris alf sports director later by biel, amanda del castillo, phil dorsey. we'll cover on the facebook page. live reports tonight. moving on, st. francis district attorney's office put on hold charges against the man in this video seen attacking two police officers. those officers in the video shot the man who is still in the

hospital recovering from his injuries. abc 7 reporters lauren martinez has more on the d.a.'s decision about the charges. >> mr. bowoed boudin made it cl >> reporter: the district attorney's office is dropping charges against 24-year-old jamaica hampton, seen here enbody cam footage fighting with two police officers on the morning of december 7th. >> his charging decision to not charge mr. hampton for feloniously assaulting two of my members, not only caused my members and every law abiding person who comes to san francisco. >> chesa boudin said this is not what's happening. they made the decision to withdraw the complaint against hampton. boudin says it's not dropping charges. >> there's an important

difference between dismissing the case and withdrawing the complaint. >> that's just lawyer talk. technically they are withdrawing the complaint. if you read between the lines, that's exactly what you're doing, dropping charges. >> he says it's not a decision one way or another whether they will be charging hampton. a decision to wait to charge hampton. >> the decision we made is frankly in the best interest of the officers. they are both being investigated right now by our internal investigation bureau into their use of the firearms in the incident. it would be improper and unfair to put them on the witness stand to testify against mr. hampton while they are being investigated for their use of force. until both investigations can be completed, we are going to withhold making a final decision about how to charge with what. >> internal investigations by the d.a.'s office are standard protocol after an officer-involved shooting. the police department has not released any kind of formal statement about this decision. chief of police bill scott did send a message to his officers indicating boudin informed him

about this withdrawal. he said, quote, i want you to know we're committed to working with the d.a. to see justice is done in this case for our officers. boudin also said he called the achieved and the officers involved directly to explain his decision. in the newsroom, abc 7, lauren martinez. a woman is dead and police in san jose say they have arrested a man they suspect killed her. early yesterday morning a man called police asking officers to check on a woman in a home. he said he had not spoken to the woman for several hours. when officers arrived they found the woman dead with stab wounds. police say they later identified the caller as this man, peter rodriguez. investigators believe he's the killer. the relationship between the two is still under investigation. new developments in the search for a suspect wanted in a deadly hit-and-run in berkeley. police say they know who they are looking for and he is, quote, armed and dangerous. abc 7 news reporter luz pena spoke to the police

about the progress and their investigation. >> we consider the suspect armed and dangerous. >> reporter: the search continues for 29-year-old vehicular manslaughter suspect alexander mcgee of oakland. >> officers attempted to arrest the suspect in a location in oakland, but he was able to elude capture. we did recover the vehicle that was used in the fatal hit-and-run. >> monday at 10:30 a berkeley police officer saw mcgee punch a woman in the head in a parked vehicle on 6th street. when the officer approached the vehicle, mcgee made a u-turn while the woman inside the vehicle screamed for help. >> police say the suspect drove the vehicle onto the sidewalk and killed a woman sleeping right here. neighbors confirm she's homeless. >> a homeless person i watched several days previously sleeping in the cold on the ground that died on the street. she lived on the streets and she died on the streets.

>> candles and flowers left to remember the 58-year-old victim. this neighbor says two days prior to the hit-and-run, she planned to help the woman. >> you were saying when you saw her first, you thought i'm going to ask her to move out of the way. >> i did. i thought, why is she laying there. she should be more inland maybe in an area that's covered somewhere, and i was too late. >> mcgee has several arrests for his arrest from multiple police departments in the bay area. >> outstanding warrants from contra costa sheriff's department for felony evading and burglary. >> as for the woman inside the vehicle screaming for help, police did not give specifics about her. >> a victim of domestic violence. it could also be something else like human trafficking as well. we know this was a violent assault. >> berkeley police hopes these now released photos lead to his arrest. in berkeley, luz pena, abc 7 news. san francisco welcomed in the lunar new year.

the pneumonia-like virus. that patient is in isolation at the hospital and in good condition. there are two other confirmed cases in the u.s., i would. the u.s. consulate on tuesday will be evacuating staff and private citizens on a charter flight from wuhan to san francisco. i notice from the embassy in beijing stated there will be a limited number of seats. those most at risk of coronavirus get priority. so far the virus has killed 56 people and infecte nearly 2,000. abc 7 news reporter dine macedo has the latest from new york. >> reporter: the potentially dead deadly coronavirus is on the rise. on friday a second case was confirmed in chicago. a patient in her 60s visited wuhan. >> she had cold-like systems, shortness of breath, fever and

many times would present like a cold. >> cdc testing travelers at five u.s. airports concentrating on those returning from wuhan. >> it's also important as an opportunity to educate returning travelers about the potential risk of coronavirus. >> concern over a large scale outbreak in the u.s. is minimal. >> the thing that you need to be watching out for is sustained person-to-person transmission. >> with confirmed cases in at least 13 other countries or territories, officials in china, including president xi jinping, met on saturday to discuss how to halt the spread. chinese authorities are also canceling many lunar new year events, closing major tourist sites, even implementing a travel ban. >> convenience stores or small places expected to be open but could sell things like food or clothes unexpectedly -- >> efforts to contain the virus have nearly 30 million people on lockdown. diane macedo, abc news, new york.

thousands of anti-abortion activists marched down san francisco street saturday in this year's walk for life. many say their cause has been strengthened since president trump vowed his support. abc 7 news reporter cornell barnard has the story. ♪ >> reporter: thousands of activists sang songs and marched down market street. the walk for life marks the anniversary of roe versus wade when the u.s. supreme court legalized abortion in 1973. maria lopez brought her three kids from stockton. >> the unborn life has to be respected because it's a creation of god. >> before the march, there was a rally at the civic center. >> we have the most pro-life president in american history. >> the crowd was energized after president trump became the first sitting president to address friday's march for life in washington. >> we're here for a very simple reason, to defend the right of every child born and unborn to

fulfill their god-given potential. >> i think coming from our leader it's a powerful message to respect life. >> roe v. wade stay. >> reporter: on market street pro-choice protesters made their presence known hoping their message was heard. >> i hope you take time to consider what it feels like to be in a position where you need to make the choice and you have to respect your body and yourself over an idea. >> this was the 16th annual walk for life in san francisco. police say the event was peaceful. in san francisco, cornell barnard, abc 7 news. in three days private vehicles will be banned from a stretch of market street in san francisco. it will include the area where these cars are here on market at davis, pine and beal streets near embarcadero b.a.r.t. station. drivers will be able to cross market but not drive down it for

about two miles. this will affect commuters, tourists, business people. this map shows the affected area we're talking about from roughly the foot of market to van ness. public transit, commercial vehicles and taxis but no exception for uber and lyft drivers. abc 7 news reporter kate larson explains the change and how it can be part of efforts to build a better bay area. >> wednesday morning signs everywhere all along here. >> reporter: those signs will indicate no private cars, ubers and lifts included, will be allowed postage two-mile stretch of market street. the director of san francisco wub works. >> this transformation is really going to make it easier for people who walk up and down market street or people who ride bicycles or people who use public transportation. >> what about people who ride and drive cars? >> people who ride and drive cars has been the problem. >> bridget phillips who lived in san francisco all her life feels

like the closure is the problem, not people like herself who drive. >> it doesn't make getting around san francisco even crazier than it is now. are they going to close more streets off? >> however, people who already use public transportation don't see the new road rules as overly restrictive. >> i use public transportation. i don't think it's a terrible thing. there's plenty of side streets. people can walk or take a lyft if they need to get there. >> what's the impetus for the closure? >> market street is out of whack with how it's used and how we want it to be used. >> the san francisco supervisor, most of the car closure area runs through his district according to sfmta, market street is home to half of the intersections with pedestrian and bicycle collisions. >> safety is a huge motivating factor here. but also the potential and power of having, you know, a thoroughfare like so many cities around the world where you can walk, take transit, bike. we hope it reinvigorates the street.

kate lar sentence, abc 7 news. >> a check of the weather with lisa. >> cold front exiting the south bay. a look at doppler 7, a few scattered showers on the peninsula, highway 1, davenport, morgan hill and gilroy looking at some rain here. san martine had a little bit of shower activity and now sinking south and east. from half moon bay, a little shower activity from san mateo, 92 going over the bay there and around pescadero could get wet this morning. otherwise we're looking at snow levels really high. about 7,000 feet. temperatures near 40 degrees here. so some rain pushing into the mountains. it is in the 50s, 56 in san jose, 54 in napa. a live look here at sfo where there are some delays being reported. you can see the wet tarmac. rain is ending about now. see a few isolated showers through 10:00 and partly cloudy this afternoon. it will be dry for the week

ahead. one opportunity for rain in the north bay, visibility over a mile here, half moon bay three miles to san carlos airport. the rest of you doing okay. so this level 1 system is pushing out of here. by about 10:00, we will be seeing some partly cloudy skies, or sooner, and looking at a pretty good afternoon. breezy winds on the coast. hour by hour, notice lingering showers here through 9:00, stopping at 10:00. we're beginning to see a little more sun in the north bay pushing across east by by 5:00. it's a pretty nice afternoon and high temperatures from the mid-50s at the coast with northwesterly winds to about 60 in san rafael, fremont and palo alto. low 60s, a bit above average for you in the south bay. with that wet pavement, we'll still have a little fog. looking at that patchy fog certainly for tonight. numbers in the low 40s in the north bay. elsewhere mid-40s, it's a dry night tonight. a dry start to your monday.

then as we look at the week ahead, you'll notice the level one system is the only panel where we have rain over the next seven days. the next opportunity, though, there is one but not for many of you. we'll start with monday with sunny skies turning partly clear, 60s around the bay. here is the next chance of rain, late monday into tuesday. a weak system riding north of the bay area so maybe up in petaluma, sebastopol. otherwise dry, a mix of clouds throughout the week. low- to mid-60s around the bay and everyone warm up and we'll look at numbers near 70 by the end of the week. so this is about it. it turned out to be a pretty decent system. a quarter inch to about almost a half inch in the north bay. otherwise we're just looking at the rain, couple hundreds in the south bay. we need more but this is all we have. >> a little something this morning. thanks, lisa. just ahead, 49ers fans aren't the only ones excited this weekend. a's fans have something to cheer about.

bridge. temperatures right now will stay in the 50s as we get to 7:00. by 10:00 dry, low- to mid-50s, upper 50s for warmes warmestes t 50s on tap for the afternoon. clear skies. in our new political series chasing california, which explores issues and strategy leading up to the primary in march. new episodes drop every thursday. last week the producer and i spoke exclusive with presidential candidate and former mayor michael bloomberg. we went behind the scenes as he campaigned in california alongside michael tubbs and former governor jerry brown. days ago he was endorsed by mayor london breed. what's the strategy this late in the game. here is a portion of the episode and a conversation i had with a

contributor. >> welcome to california. >> thank you for having me. hitting the trail. you're ready. >> hitting the trail, ready, but it's raining here. i was told weather in california is always beautiful. >> we're back stage with former new york mayor michael bloomberg. >> the first thing we've got to do is get rid of donald trump. if that isn't a good investment with my money, i don't know what is. >> what's the strategy behind that? do you see california as the state you have to win? >> i skipped over the first four because i entered too late. you couldn't build an organization, which means you go for super tuesday, which california is in this time. that's what i'm competing in. and you know, i've got to go and explain what i would do. >> so bloomberg is clearly a guy who sees an opening in this race. but the big question is can he catch up. so bloomberg rht now is just finishing up a roundtable with mayor tubbs nearby with a bunch of community leaders. he's then coming to this coffee

shop where we're at where he's going to officially get the endorsement of michael tubbs. bloomberg got a lot of criticism for his stop and frisk policies as mayor of new york. a lot of black men say it particularly targeted him. here he is shopping up in california getting the backing of young, millennial black mayor of stockton. definitely i think his campaign sees this as a really good optics moment. >> the policy we had, i apologize for because in the end it turned out we could have done something different. >> at this point reporters at the event start peppering bloomberg with questions about stop and frisk policy, which he continues to apologize for. then there is this remarkable moment with mayor tubbs. >> absolutely i think it's a fair question. again, no surprise to anyone, i'm young, i'm black. my father is still incarcerated so issues about criminal justice are deeply personal to me.

>> i'm joined by chronicle columnist phil materre. the thing about bloomberg, he's jumping in late. a lot of people don't know who he is. >> third time mayor of new york. might want to rename this segment instead of chasing california, catching california, because that is what mayor michael bloomberg is trying to do. he's trying to catch the imagination of the california democratic voter. he's doing it by spending $26 million on television ads to introduce himself to the west coast because he's just not known out here except as a billionai billionaire, possibly mayor of new york and the mayor as we started the piece, stop and frisk, which is a controversial move in california politics. >> super controversial. that's why when we saw the stockton mayor, young, african-american, progressive guy endorsing mayor bloomberg. a lot of people were surprised by that. that's when you look at bloomberg's strategy. we interviewed him exclusively

one-on-one in this piece as well, which you'll see about this. you can tell he's going on not just money but using his leverage of being a mayor. >> both together. the mayorship gives him cred. after the mayorship he started something, the bloomberg foundation-type work. what it was, he went around to various cities and various mayors. he's hosted conferences, had confabs, helped with money, planning for urban planning for various programs for cities and you're starting to see the paybacks. he's very close, for example, oakland's mayor. she hasn't endorsed him yet. so you have this relationship between him and elected officials in the state. the question for michael bloomberg is can he translate that out to the mass of voters while the clock is ticking down on this primary election. >> how much do endorsements matter anymore. that's a big part of the strategy. that the guy likes me, this guy likes me. >> for michael bloomberg it is. look at his competition. joe biden is known by virtually every democratic voter in the

country. bernie sanders, he's already run once. he's been running nonstop for six years. he's a well-known commodity. elizabeth warren has spent the last year introducing herself to voters. michael bloomberg and mayor buttigieg, pete buttigieg, they are having to go the other route. they need people to introduce them as well. for him endorsements are big because they are giving him credibility. >> for me bloomberg so much represents divisions in the democratic party. sanders right now, the polls show him as the number one, top of the ticket. >> but not really ahead. everybody is up there. >> everybody is up there. i just feel like bloomberg is this guy who bounced between being a republican and democrat. how many california democrats are really going to support him? maybe there is a large pocket of moderate democrats. >> the bloomberg bet is this. democratic voters might say as much as i like joe biden, he's too old. as much as i like bernie, he's too far to the left. he's not going to win. the bet is none of the above would take out donald trump and

he would be the alternative. michael bloomberg said it doesn't need to be me. i will spend what it takes to get rid of donald trump. that is the fundamental message of the democratic party -- is that going to be the fundamental message of the democratic party this year. that's what remains to be seen. that's what he's betting on. >> i interviewed people who were upset about michael tubbs endorsement, then they heard him speak. they were like, okay, i like the guy. more relatable than you expect. >> he's not the only candidate you like. >> we had a piece where we talked about sanders and the latino vote. it's fascinating how sanders is targeting latino vote to win california. >> yang. >> a piece onyang and the yang gang. she interviewed him, the yang gang. a lot to explore here. >> never seen anything like it. >> i know. this is really fascinating. >> so when people want to see more, where do they go. >> abc7news.com/chasing ca. you can see all these pieces in their entirety. you can watch each episode on abc app and youtube and amazon

before flying off to miami for super bowl. a two-week break after super sunday, that really gives coaches an opportunity to fully install their game plans. kyle shanahan has been through the madness of super bowl quique. four years ago he was the falcons offensive coordinator. he's been through this, watched his dad do it several times. an extra week to prepare, that is a coach's dream. >> it's nice. if we had to play sunday, he's ready. any time you go through a week, a whole normal week and not actually have a game sunday, nice to have a long plane ride for myself, go through the whole week and everything. we'll start over monday and tuesday where we don't have to reinvent the wheel. we know we have but we have a week of tape where we can clean some stuff up or take some stuff out and some more stuff come to us and put some stuff in. >> tomas hertl, lone all-star, the league's annual game continuing their unique three on three all-star format with the

camera, some moisture on the lens where temperatures are mild, fog to speak of, scattered light rain showers for sunday morning. we will be looking at this level 1 system winding down. in fact, by about 9:00 we should be dry. we're looking at the slick streets still. a little bit of fog. by the afternoon some sunshine out there. here is a look at san mateo bridge. can you see how wet it is out there. most areas south of the golden gate, .1 to .2, half inch in the north bay. taking you down around pescadero, highway 1. a few scattered showers on the peninsula to 80 here. also you can see higher elevations around mount hamilton, east of fremont, the hills there. into sierra nevada about 40 degrees. the front slowed down a bit and that loud for snow levels to stay high above 7,000 feet. we haven't had that cold air move in. as a result it's rain in the mountains. here is a look at that front as it continues to push to the

the week. 59 oakland, 61 napa, low 60s in concord. average highs should be about 60 in the south bay. you'll surpass that as we get into the gradual warming trend. by the middle of the week, things start to turn around. a weak system that wants to bring a little more rain to the north bay, north of golden gate monday and tuesday. we're not really talking anything but trace amounts. overnight partly cloudy looking at a few areas of fog. low- to mid-40s. accuweather seven-day forecast, level one pretty much out of here getting to partly clear skies as we look towards 9:00, 10:00. a little cooler tonight, starting sunny, a few clouds. there's that next chance of showers north of golden gate monday night into tuesday maybe getting the ground wet. otherwise we are going in the other direction with warmer days, sunnier skies and well above average by the he said of the week. so we do get mid winter dry spells but january hasn't been great for rain either. no reason to panic yet.
