partly cloudy conditions. partly cloudy this afternoon, 56 to near 60. low to mid 50s at 7:00. more on our chances of rain tomorrow>> good morning. starting with video from san pablo. a car went off the roadway. this is westbound 80 before the san pablo dam road off-ramp. the car went down 300 feet. according to the chp, they will wait until about 7:00 a.m. to get a tow truck out there. at the moment there is no one available that has cable long enough to get it out. injuries have been reported. it's not blocking anything. you should be able to make it through just fine. back in the studio. a look at a new crash in concord. we want to get to that now. we can bring this up. a car spun out and is blocking one lane on eastbound 4 before willow pass road. >> thank you.counter commute a . fans have been sharing their

grief over the sudden devastating death of kobe bryant. >> he was reportedly traveling with his 13-year-old daughter to her basketball game when the helicopter they were in crashed yesterday morning. all nine people on board died. the faa, ntsb and the fbi are in los angeles county investigating the cause of the crash. a source tells espn that the chopper made a climbing turn before it dove to the ground. officials say given the terrain and conditions of the crash site, they expect the recovery effort to take at least a few days. kenneth moton has the latest. >> reporter: this morning, new clues about the crash that took the life of nba legend kobe bryant, that column of smoke was first seen just before 10:00 a.m. >> south of 101, helicopter went down. >> they did a search of the area for survivors. unfortunately all the survivors

on board were determined to have been perished. >> reporter: now as officials clear away debris at the crash site which could take days, investigators are working to piece together why the helicopter went down killing bryant along with his 13-year-old daughter and all seven others on board. the trip was supposed to take less than a half an hour, but nearly 45 minutes after takeoff, witnesses saw the chopper begin to struggle. >> i heard a helicopter just flying just way too low and i heard, like, a loud thud noise. >> we can see that the aircraft hit at a high speed. it was not controlled. there was no attempt to land, and so whatever happened here was catastrophic and happened in those last 15 seconds of flight. >> reporter: visibility at the time of the crash was so bad the lapd had grounded police helicopters at the time. the sheriffs department says it is too soon to know if fog played a role. those closest to bryant describe being crippled by the news. mourning across the country growing by the hour. fans saying kobe was larger than

life. >> his oldest daughter is 17 years old, the youngest is 7 months old. when he retired in 2016, bryant was the third leading scorer in nba history. he was more than just a basketball player. getting into numerous other ventures. he won an oscar last year, in 2018, for "dear basketball." >> also among the victims was john altobelli, his wife and their daughter, alyssa. he was the head baseball coach at orange county college in california. he was about to start his 28th season there. here in the bay area, tributes are pouring in for kobe bryant as well, especially from etll. >> a hollyfield is live at chase center this morning with more on that part of the story. >> good morning. we keep hearing from fans this morning who say they just don't want to believe that this has happened. look at the chase center. it looks like the warriors are

paying tribute with a subtle nod to kobe. the lights are lit up in his lakers colors. purple and gold. the warriors put out a statement calling kobe bryant one of the most iconic players in the history of the nba. back in 2000, bryant played his first 50-point game against the warriors. he would go on to have 24 more in his career. the warriors said bryant touched fans in every market including here in the bay area. > it makes me want to cry right now. i'm not an emotional person. yeah. man, it's so surreal right now. i can't even fathom it. wow. >> as an opposing opponent you hated him but he was always respectable. you see the greatness in the player. geneons.nd a e warriors praice he ws. aame t

this caught my eye driving across the bay bridge. look at the top of the salesforce tower. we had the chinese lunar new year over the weekend. i believe it's the year of the rat. i believe that's a rat. good job salesforce tower. let's talk about what's going on temperature-wise. thursday, friday, saturday, look at the wealth of 70s in it the south bay. mid to upper 60s in the peninsula and south bay. it will be a three-day event then cooler weather is on the way. we'll see if there's any rain in the transition. a couple of warm days coming up.

half a dozen people are out of their homes in san francisco's sunset district following two different fires. one broke out at la playa and judah streets, moments later another fire started at 48th avenue. one person was hurt, they decided not to go to the hospital. arson investigators are trying to figure out how the fire started. new developments with the ongoing dispute over access to a beach in san mateo county. a billionaire is suing the san mateo county sheriff. he is arguing that people who visit martins beach should be cited for tresspassing on his property and the sheriff's office is not doing that. he purchased this spot in 2008. he locked the gate in 2010 setting off this legal fight. the u.s. census bureau is looking to hire thousands of temporary workers for the census. >> but be aware of fake job

live look at hosan jose, 208 looking good. many of us in shock after the helicopter crash that killed kobe bryant. >> kobe bryant and his daughter were flying to a basketball game in southern california when c r their chopper went down. we have a reporter near calabasas with more on the ongoing federal investigation. >> reporter: a team from the ntsb will be arriving on site this morning. they will be leading up this investigation into what caused the crash. because of the darkness this morning, you cannot see the crash site. you can see this memorial behind us set up by fans. the los angeles county sheriff describing the crash site as a logistical nightmare because where the helicopter went down is not easily accessible. the terrain is dangerous even in daylight. the immediate effort under way has been the recovery of human remains. we are warned that process will take at least a couple of days to complete with the official

identification of bodies the next step in the process. kobe bryant among nine people on board the helicopter when it went down shortly before 10:00 a.m. yesterday. another victim, his 13-year-old daughter, gianna, the group traveling to a youth basketball game. while visibility was low at the time due to fog, abc's aviation expert says the flight data suggests there was a loss of control about 15 seconds before impact. describing the loss of altitude as rapid. there were no among the things the ntsb will be looking at is the history of the pilot, the maintenance of that helicopter and of course the weather, was it a factor. reporting this morning from the crash site in calabasas, back to you. several sports teams paid tribute to kobe bryant. his number was 24. so nba games yesterday started with an intentional 24-second shot clock violation on the first play of the game.

even outside of basketball soccer star neymar scored a goal and flashed 24 for bryant. during the pro bowl, players celebrated a sack by making a jump shot in kobe's honor. tributes poured in across the world. fans at the australian open wore his jerseys yesterday. in the bay area, tributes are pouring in for kobe bryant as well especially from basketball fans. >> amy hollyfield is live at chase center with what they're doing there. amy? >> good morning. yeah. the warriors ended their practice early yesterday when they got the news. players were too distraught to talk to the media the warriors paying tribute this morning to kobe bryant. look at chase center where the warriors play. it's lit up in lakers purple and gold in memory of kobe bryant. those are his team colors right there. fans just keep telling us they don't want to believe that he is gone. warriors fans likely remember

amy hollyfield, abc7 news. >> thank you. former golden state warrior center and team ambassador donald foyle played against bryant. their careers paralleled each other for more than a decade. one of bryant's signed jerseys hangs framed inside his home. he shared a memory with us about bryant when they met at the beginning of their nba journeys. >> we did rookie transition together. we would talk about poetry, his love of poetry. him wanting to write more poems. i always had this vision in my mind that some day all the basketball players who wrote poetry, we would write a book together. >> donald foyle said bryant was one of the most competitive players he faced. he said bryant remembered everything that happened on the court and used that information to prepare for future match-ups. we have more on kobe's legacy and the tributes to him pouring

in. you can read them by going to abc7news.com. we also have a photo gallery of him and his daughter. at the live desk, three people have been arrested after leading the chp on a chase and crashing into a car. officers spotted three burglars at ulta beauty at the gateway plaza in vallejo. the suspects led officers on a chase across the carquinez bridge and then into oakland. the car crashed into another car at 105th and breed avenue. the three suspects ran from the car. officers caught and arrested them. the chp did recover stolen property from the car. it's unclear what the suspects took exactly. the u.s. state department ordered all employees of the u.s. consulate in wuhan, china to evacuate because of the deadly coronavirus. their flight is expected to arrive at sfo tomorrow. at least 80 people died from the coronavirus. yesterday public health
