>> reporter: at 9:44 witnesses reported hearing a helicopter flying very low. >> you're still too low level for flight following at this time. >> reporter: the aircraft apparently accelerated rapidly before slamming into a canyon near calabasas. the fbi on the scene along the ntsb. officials are asking for photos of the area at the time of the crash as they sift through the debris in search of answers. among those killed bryant's 13-year-old daughter gianna, teammate alyssa and parents john and keri altobelli. also onboard mother of three christina mauser. >> how do you tell a child their mommy's no longer with us? >> reporter: her husband says the couple's daughter was supposed to be onboard but couldn't go because she was sick. the pilot of the aircraft says he had two decades of experience. >> one of college basketball's greatest teams saluted kobe

>> reporter: no more cars will be allowed on market street starting tomorrow. it's a little quiet right now. this is what they're aiming for, for it to look like this. this ban will include ride share cars. no more ubers or lyfts on market street. taxi drivers will be allowed and commercial vehicles will be allowed and, of course, public transit and emergency vehicles can come through. but as of right now they're saying they're going to ban personal cars. the idea is to make it safer for bicyclists and pedestrians. we have a map to show you the affected area and you'll see a big red line on market street. it's a large stretch of road from the ferry building all the way down to vanness. day is your last day to drive this strip of road. we want to drive home that point and let you know it's coming tomorrow. spread the word this starts at

officials from wuhan, china, was rumored to be landing at sfo, instead to ontario in southern california. passengers will undergo health screenings for the virus. president trump's lawyers will finish their opening arguments in the impeachment trial. still no word if the senate will call additional witnesses. national security adviser john bolton's claims that president trump said he wanted to withhold aid from ukraine until officials investigate his political rivals. here is what president trump's team said about that. >> nothing in the bolton revelati revelations, even if true, would rise to the level of an abuse of power or an impeachable offense. >> bolton made that claim in a draft of his book. president trump denies saying anything like that. happening today a grand opening celebration in gilroy to honor the fallen, in survivors of gilroy's festival shooting. it opens today on monterey road.

teresa and morgan hills as the clouds are moving over your neighborhood. that is making us milder with temperatures around livermore. the rest of us in the upper 40s to mid-50s in san francisco, 53. a look at the north bay where you have your best chance of some scattered showers starting at 7:00 and ending shortly after the 11:00 hour and then you'll have a mix of sunshine and clouds at about 59 at 3:00. here is a look at the east bay where the scattered showers aren't even showing up at least at the hour. that's when the sky conditions and the temperature is on this forecast t. could slip in between these time frames. be aware. have live doppler 7 up on our app before you head outside and you can see if there are any showers coming your way. it's possible. look at these upper 50s in the afternoon hours. 53 at 7:00. anfor san francisco a chance of some showers starting, say, around 8:00 and going all the way up until at least noon,

accumulation. now if you're just joining us we have a chance of wet weather today. it's a 1 on the storm impact scale. more on that next. thank you, mike. talk show host and comedian jimmy kimmel dedicated last night's show to kobe bryant. there was no studio audience but instead he played clips of kobe on his show. kimmel talked about how he'd had many conversations with kobe off camera and all of them involved his daughters. >> once he retired from basketball, his life revolved around their lives. he was very proud of them. he loved being a father. he was a bright light, and that's how i want to remember him. >> kobe appeared on "jimmy kimmel live" 15 times, the most recent in september. the world is marking the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the nazi-run auschwitz death camp in poland. at least a million people died there during world war ii, most

of them yjews. many were gassed upon arrival. many died of starvation and disease, one of more than 40 concentration camps. dan ashley traveled to poland in 2005 with several bay area survivors of the holocaust. they returned to mark the 60th anniversary of the liberation of auschwitz. dan toured the camp with linda, who survived as a prisoner for three horrifying years. she described the wickedness of what she saw there surrounded by death and suffering. linda died in 2010 and to this day dan describes the experience as one of the most memorable and meaningful assignments of his career. he's post add reflection of his time there on his facebook page. a new bill in sacramento could make pg&e and other state utilities pay for the costs that spring up when your power is turned off to prevent a wildfire. the state senate passed a bill yesterday that would require utilities to pay customers back for any losses during shutoffs

forecast. the area of low pressure, the center of this storm heading to portland, seattle, vancouver. we're well down here on the tail end of the storm. that's why we're barely getting any wet weather out of this, some scraps. 5:30 this morning, best chance up in the north bay. and it will stay that way through at least 9:00. a little drizzle around san francisco and the peninsula coast, but the better chance getting wet you can see starts to hit us around 11:00 to noon and then as the system slides to the south, kind of just falls apart. so let's take a look at our rainfall, and it's just not a lot. from .06 to nothing measurable in livermore and san jose. so you're going to have the easiest commutes in those neighborhoods. today is our coolest day until monday. look at that. mid-60s tomorrow. some 70s showing up thursday. even around the bay friday and saturday and then that sharp drop sunday into monday. we'll all be inside, right, watching the super bowl. >> yes, we will.

in china because of the coronavirus outbreak. and apple ipad turns 10 today. making changes to avoid the coronavirus. >> facebook stopping nonessential company travel to china. they're telling employees recently there to work from home. many u.s. tech companies have offices in china, south korea's lg has a complete ban on travel to the country. and atari-themed hotels coming to american cities. >> teaming up with developers to build eight hotels and cities including chicago and las vegas. amenities will include so-called gaming playgrounds. some will host gaming events. and happy birthday to the ipad. >> this week marks ten years since steve jobs introduced it. consumers snatched up 300,000 of them the first day they went on sale. 350 million sold to date. >> did your mom ever hold up the ipad? those are your "tech bytes." >> have a great day.

it's not very widespread by the afternoon hours as we're mostly cloudy and temperatures from about 58 to 63 degrees. cooler tonight with a little more fog than this morning from 39 in santa rosa and lake port to about 46 in half moon bay. i'll look at your seven day and super bowl forecast for miami next. one issue we are always tackling is the housing crisis. it will add resources, that plan includes devoting more than $3 million in grants over the next 18 months to address basic needs. expanding housing programs and 12 emergency beds starting this fall. students and staff held a number of rallies demanding the university take action. >> we stand up for those who can't speak for themselves. >> a report showed 13% of students are homeless.

an acclaimed french restaurant on russian hill is closing. the chef owner says the lease is coming up soon. he's turning 65 and feels it's time to pass a business on to the next generation and now is looking for a buyer. the last day of business will be on march 14th. a rush for more electric cars takes one step forward today. the department of environment developed a plan to get half of new vehicles to be electric by 2025. officials want all new vehicles to be electric by 2030. and all vehicles in the city by 2040. their plan will be presented at today's county transportation authority meeting. as promised the seven-day forecast straight from hard rock stadium to you. look at all those 80s. some isolated showers thursday. thunderstorms for friday and

francisco golden gate park's 150th anniversary kicks off with 150 projects in the park. you guessed it, 150 trees. a year long celebration of the park. the park's actual birthday that's also when a ferris wheel will open near the museum. it will be up for one year and a ride will cost $18. libraries hold more than bucks these days. >> one library has bees. to the top of the downtown branch of the public library to watch a beekeeper open two hives. >> so each hive has one queen inside of it and she's the mother of every single bee in here. >> so there can be up to 100,000 in each hive. last year they produced 150 pounds of honey. the friends of the public library sold the honey and raised $3,000 for library programs. how cool is that?
