full closure. it's happening weekdays, 10:00 to 5:00 a.m. that work is still happening now and will continue through march. a live look at the foggy conditions in the south bay, san jose, 101. smooth traffic down there and on the san mateo bridge. people are starting to hit the pavement early. through the altamont pass, it is very clear. there is a big crash in tracy but it's too far outside our viewing area, so i won't get to it. going through the altamont pass is pretty easy now. this morning the u.s. state department is warning citizens not to travel to china after a record number of coronavirus deaths in 24 hours. >> the coronavirus death toll stands at 213, all in china. 9700 cases are reported there. the world health organization declared a global public health emergency and the state department issued that do not travel warning and said u.s.

citizens currently in china should consider leaving. levis closed half of its stores in china, including in wuhan. starbucks closed about half of its klechina locations. in the u.s., there are six confirmed cases of coronavirus, including the first person to person infection. a man in illinois caught the virus from his wife. there are two cases in southern california, one in washington state, one case in arizona. abc7 news talked to one woman who just arrived from shanghai. she said china is doing what it can to tak against the coronavirus outbreak. >> the government did a lot to control the situation. i feel like it's under control. >> there are no cases in the bay area, but it's affecting people. san francisco is going ahead with the chinese knnew year parade. a vote to acquit president trump could happen as early as tonight.

a key republican senator announced overnight he won't vote to hear new witnesses. megan tevrizian has more now. >> reporter: the sense con capitol hill is that the end is in sight. senators are exhausted, few of them are taking notes anymore, but nothing is set in stone yet. key republican senators weighing in overnight on the issue of witnesses signaling to republicans the impeachment trial may soon be over. >> they are really grasping at straws at this point, and it's time to vote. >> reporter: republican senator lamar alexander, who is not running for re-election, saying he will vote against having witnesses to appear, but senator susan collins says she will vote to allow witnesses. senator mitt romney also says he's interested in hearing from witnesses, but senator lisa murkowski is still on the fence.

in thursday's marathon session, murkowski and others asking whether bolton's allegations would rise to the level of pitchable offense even if true. former national security adviser john bolton in his upcoming book reportedly claims the president withheld aid to pressure ukraine to investigate political rival joe biden and his son. at a rally in iowa thursday night, the president seeming unfazed. >> but the democrats are trying to overturn the last election. we will make sure that they face another crushing defeat. >> reporter: later this afternoon there will be more debate on witnesses and then a vote. if there are 51 votes, that could move to closing arguments and we could see an acquittal vote on president trump as early as tonight or tomorrow morning. megan tevrizian, abc news, capitol hill. the company that owns the helicopter involved in the crash that killed kobe bryant, his daughter and seven others is suspending its helicopter operations. island express is not saying why. the "new york times" is reporting that the chopper wasn't even legal to fly in poor visibility. weather is just one of the factors that the ntsb is focusing on in their

investigation. the lakers are planning a tribute to the victims when the team returns to the court tonight. this will be the first time since the crash. the city of los angeles is planning a memorial but no date or location set just yet. check out this mural tribute to kobe in fresno. more than 100 people braved the cold to watch artist omar huerto outline the face of his idol. this was just the beginning phase of the mural. in the east bay, a suspect in a deadly hit and run is in custody. berkeley police say 29-year-old alexander magee ran over a woman two weeks ago. investigators say a collision at university avenue and 6th street happened as he sped away from a uc police officer. the officer had approached magee's car after seeing a woman inside screaming for help. investigators say magee took a turn wide, drove on to the sidewalk and hit a homeless woman. in the north bay, today is the deadline for homeless people camping on the joe rodota trail

in santa rosa to leave. the board of supervisors set today's deadline more than two weeks ago. the press democrat reports county representatives hope that arrests won't be necessary and that people will leave on their own. the county wants to clear the trail so they can clean the debris in the parkland. just two more days until super bowl liv, today the 49ers will hold their final practice before taking on the chiefs sunday. this is a live look at hard rock stadium. yesterday the niners practiced in helmets and shells at the university of miami. i just said shells, that's inside knowledge that i know. head coach kyle shanahan did not have the players wear pads to make sure they get into the game healthy. the session lasted an hour and 42 minutes. tomorrow the 49ers will hold a walk-through at hard rock stadium. ifniners win, mission street between cesar chavez and

while i was on a combat patrol my c in baqubah, iraq,nned out. a rocket-propelled grenade took my arm off at the shoulder. when i came home, i felt alone. my family was around me, but i couldn't talk to them about what i'd seen and what i'd done. i remember just thinking, man, the way i am right now, i don't want to live. i was discharged from the army, and i've been working with the wounded warrior project since 2007. warriors don't have to be severely wounded to be with the wounded warrior project. we do have a lot of guys that have post-traumatic stress disorder. being able to share your story, i guess it kind of helps you wrap your mind around what did happen over there. just because you've left the military doesn't mean your life is over, because when these guys are coming home, i'm kind of leading and training them, instead of for combat, i'm leading and training them to heal. and if i come away with anything from the wounded warrior project, it's them giving my life back.

state regulators are cracking down on pg&e's public safety power shutoffs. according to the chronicle, the head of the commission said she found serious deficiencies. she ordered the utility to file more detailed records and test the program with state officials. pg&e may have to restore everyone's power no more than a day after severe weather conditions subside. pg&e would need to improve access to online information and provide better reasoning for when it cuts the power. a huge housing development is moving forward a multimillion dollar deal with hundreds of housing units. it's at point molate just north of the richmond-san rafael bridge in richmond. it's next to the chevron refinery. the property has been fenced off since the navy moved out in the mid '90s and sold the property to richmond for 1 dollar. now there may be 1,250 h1,250 h

jose and morgan hill. tonight temperatures in the 40s with fog once again. here is walnut creek. our rainfall season, the east bay valleys, just palo altortry. we are in the first stage, stage one of a drought, so is part of the central valley, but it's a very short-term drought. look at the historic averages of our reservoirs, most of them are 95% to 140%, that's before the snow melts this spring. slightly cooler tomorrow, by about two to four degrees. look at that dramatic drop sunday. it will feel cooler than that when you factor in 30, 40-mile-per-hour wind gusts. you can see the winter chill for monday and tuesday, then warmer. 60s back in the forecast wednesday and thursday. jobina? >> thank you. we're starting off with a live

warmer than average. oakland, 65, the warmth is going to peak today. >> thank you. san francisco's only all-boys catholic high school is going coed. archbishop riordan high school will begin admitting female students next year. the board of trustees voted 14-4 in favor of the change. the vote comes after the decision to close mercy high, which is an all-girls catholic high school in the city. enrollment in catholic schools has dropped in the past decade. this weekend the nfl will present a prestigious award to an nfl player. >> 49ers cornerback richard sherman is the nominee for the walter payton man of the year award and now he's launching a new initiative to help adults with financial literacy. he breaks down his strategies for financial success.
