good morning. it is saturday, february 1st. i'm liz. thanks for joining us. let's start with a quick look at the weather. here is meteorologist lisa argent. >> good morning, liz. we have some dense fog around the bay. right here, sfo, you're looking at delays of about 40 minutes. and the fog has certainly been an issue for the north bay and the east bay. it is 53 in san francisco. 54 on the coast. so mild there, but 40s on the peninsula with some fog. you see some sunshine here from the golden gate bridge, but we still have a lot of fog about 20 miles north of the bridge, even closer to the bridge. 43 in santa rosa. 45 by the delta. in the upper 40s in our inland

valleys where it is foggy, as well. and you can see here that not much has changed in the north bay with very bad visibility. napa, though, seems to be a hole being burned around the valley there. nine miles in san jose. haven't had a problem there. you've had some sun, hazy sun. that would be the story of the around, our nice mild day before a cold front moves through. i'll have the answers coming up. liz. breaking news, one man has been killed in an early morning condo fire in walnut creek. we have brand new video from the keeps condominiums near parkside drive. firefighters say they first found the man in a third story condo. he later died. all residents evacuated the building and the damage was contained to the man's university. residents have gone back inside and the cause of the fire is under investigation. now to what the entire bay area is focused on this weekend. one day from super bowl liv.

this morning, julian weber is live for us in miami and julian spoke to two niners legends who truly know what it takes to bring home a win to the bay area. julian. >> and we're already calling it. that's what happened come sunday. as the excitement builds here in miami ahead of the super bowl, we're witnessing if this super bowl squad would be etched into history and hoist up another lombardi trophy history. i got to speak to two 49ers great who helped bring three of the five championships, lombardi tree fees to the city of san francisco. jerry rice and steve young. i caught up to them at this really cool event that they are a part of in overtown at the ywca. they were opening up this new facility in overtown, miami, this new east ports and that stands for electronics boards or video games if you're unfamiliar. it's going to be a gaming arena that will serve as a safe haven

for underprivileged kids in the miami area. it's all a part of their 8 to 80 initiative, the 8 representing steve young, the 80 representing jerry rice. and after the event, i spoke to those hall of famers about what they expect to see tomorrow come super bowl liv. >> i think this is a team that has grown astronomically from preseason to today and it feels like they're just road paving everybody they play. so they seem like the best team in the league and now they have to go and prove it tomorrow night. >> well, for me, probably because i ran a hundred yards last ball game against the packers, i'm going to try to do the same thing. during this ball game, i don't know if security will be chasing me down the field, or if somebody might jump on me. >> i need you to go pick up a couple that we left behind because we got some, but we left some behind. so they've got to go pick those up. >> and i spoke to steve young a little bit longer. i had to ask him, what do you think the game plan is going to

the two niners may quietly be today. brian young and john lynch will find out if they will be inducted into the pro football hall of fame. young played from 1994 to 2007 and was a four-time pro bowler. lynch split his 15-year career as a safety with the tampa bay buccaneers and denver broncos. he admits it would be quite the thrill to be named hall of famer today and lift the lombardi trophy tomorrow. >> well, it could make for a pretty cool weekend. it's typically this week. you don't think of the hall all year, but you get here and they bring you down here for it. fortunately this year my mind is occupied and i've got a lot of other duties. i have thought that it could be a very special weekend. >> of the 15 hall of fame finalists, five will be named as the 2020 class tonight on the eve of super bowl liv. and besides the 49ers faithful, a well known bay area performer is hitting the streets of south florida. kenny the clown is bringing an

extra boost of energy, bubbles and balloons. here is amanda castillio with that story. >> i'm ready to go. let's rock and roll. >> meet kenny the clown. he's a staples san francisco street performer who landed in south florida like the rest of the faithful. along with the face paint, he's bringing positivity. >> they say it's as fine a job as you left to do and you don't have to work a day in your life. nice to meet you guys. >> the long time street performer picked up a few tips while working in the bay area. >> he was a substitute teacher for 25 years in the alameda school district. and i like doing that, but i love doing this. >> this. >> what's going on? niners! >> super bowl liv marks kenny's third super bowl performance in the last four seasons. >> the energy here in miami, it's like every pitch matching what i got in new orleans and houston. >> of course, this year is extra special. kenny was able to ditch his

abc7news.com. developing news now on the coronavirus. it is official. santa clara county has confirmed the bay area's first case. more than 250 people have died worldwide with more than 12,000 infections confirmed around the world. the u.s. has declared public health emergency, temporarily barring any foreigner who has recently traveled to china from entering the u.s. all americans returning from wuhan will be quarantined. health officials say the santa clara county man with coronavirus flew into the airport a week ago and he developed symptoms after returning. >> he has been self-isolating at home and did not leave home at all except to seek medical care. >> county officials -- county health teams are now monitoring what they call a short list of people who have been exposed. at this point, health officials say the risk to the public is low. they did not disclose the man's name, age or his city of residence. starting tomorrow, all incoming

flights from china will be funned through seven airports, sfo, l.a.x., jfk, hon lieuly, and seattle airport in chicago. abc 7 news reporter laura martinez has reaction from travelers. >> i really worry i couldn't come back. >> yos lee arrived from china just in time before the u.s. implemented travel restrictions to international travelers from china. >> i was lucky. i'm lucky i got here. >> foreign nationals, other than immediate family of u.s. citizens and permanent residents who have traveled in china within the last 17 days will be denied entry into the united states. >> and in an unprecedented move, 200 americans are required to remain at a military base in riverside county for a two-week quarantine. they evacuated from the epicenter in wuhan, china. >> i think it's a good thing, you know, like you never know, like, if people go off and travel somewhere and they come back and it's a disease, you

know. >> it's the first quarantine the cdc has issued in more than 50 years. but some here in the bay area feel these travel restrictions on foreign nationals that come from china are too extreme. >> unfortunately, xenophobic suggesting that all chinese people are hosts of this potentially deadly virus, there's no reason to spread panic and alarm at this stage. >> the travel restrictions are set to begin this sunday at 8:00 p.m. reporting from sfo, lauren martinez, abc 7 news. and stanford university is restricting all travel to china in an effort to prevent the spread of coronavirus. the university is requiring anyone who has traveled to the country to quarantine themselves for two weeks. organizers of events in at least four california cities, pal ato, al grove in sacramento have canceled lunar new year

events due to coronavirus. reasons include an abundance of caution or some vendors pulling out due to concern. we have more coverage at abc7news.com, including the symptoms, how it spreads and how to avoid it. moving on to something a little more fun, if you're a fan of burgers, you surely heard of this growing chain. many east coasters swear it's the best ty've had. yes, we are talking about shake shack. it's opening its first san francisco location at 3060 phil more on monday. this adds on to its three other bay area already. the location will have some california specific menu items like a cold rush, frozen custard drink and a burger using grass-fed beef from a locally sustainable ranch. get in line early monday. it opens at 11:00 a.m. a few months back, we did a taste test and, of course, the east coaster like shakd shack and the west coaster stuck to their guns and liked in and out. >> oh, of course. good morning, everyone.

we still some v some fog out there. logan at 50, san francisco and oakland, it's partly cloudy in san jose at 50. the fog is in the north bay, the east bay. it does clear for a mild afternoon, but maybe not as mild as it was yesterday. and then, wow, the bottom really falls out tomorrow. i'll explain, next. also ahead, an emotional night as the lakers play their first game since the death of kobe bryant. how the team is honoring the legend. you may think you're a fan, but the ultimate fans have their own

welcome back. developing news this morning, a santa clara county sheriff's deputy is recovering with nonlife threatening injuries. an official drove an unknown vehicle towards the deputy. as the vehicle got closer to the deputy, the lights were turned off and multiple shots were fired at the deputy by the suspect who then fled the scene. the deputy returned fire and it's unknown if the suspect was hit. with police tell us there was a disturbance at deer valley high school that led to the shooting. the person that was shot was a

juvenile. the basketball game was against antioch high school. and a police chase that began in fremont ended in union city. they were going after suspects who robbed a sephora store last night. two people were taken from the scene by ambulance. a third suspect was arrested. the car that was being chased ended up on the front yard of a home. and that shooting happened at the end of balmarol street. the los angeles lakers took to the court last night for the first time since the death of kobe bryant. fans received number 8 and number 24 shirts, the numbers bryant wore in his 20 seasons with the team. before the game, there was a deeply moving and emotional tribut to the nba great. arlene from los angeles has more. >> and that's what they came up with. >> hundreds of messages to honor

kobe bryant and his daughter, gianna created by young students at ramona junior high school in chino. >> it's their message to kobe. my job is to just bring it here as the staples center. >> the poster, now a growing memorial at the staples center on the night of the first home game against the lakers since the death of kobe bryant, his 13-year-old daughter and seven others who were on board the helicopters that went down sunday. before the start of the game, l.a. laker legend magic johnson stopped to talk with fans on his way in. fans without tickets gather outside l.a. live businesses to watch tv, broadcasting the pregame ceremony. >> tonight is a very meaningful night. it's somebody i've been watching since i was about 8 years old. watching him grow, i feel like it's an uncle that passed away. he's my hero. as a basketball fan, he means a

trending well above average and we're trending dry. could be through the second week of february. here is a look at that water color from mt. at a m where you can see the moisture in the atmosphere, the haze there, making for a pretty picture, though. 52 downtown. it's 49 in oakland. 50 san jose and gilroy. you see some of the fog here trying to lighten up over san francisco. 46 with the gray sky up in santa rosa. but it is clearing out in parts of marin county, 47 in concord and livermore. visibility, restricted from petaluma to santa rosa. nothing in concord. foggy there. 2 miles in hayward. sfo has had some delays. 54 degrees in santa cruz. upper 60s today. the last mild day we're going to see for a while. so the fog lists, it will be partly cloudy throughout the arch. and looking at those strong northwesterly winds tomorrow

coming in as a cold front, a dry one, pushes through the bay area. and freezing cold monday into tuesday. here is a look at the sky cover as we go through your you can see clou and clearing out by this afternoon. you can see a little bit of snow in the sierras. not much, though. we certainly need more. gusty winds 4:00 tomorrow morning through 4:00 on monday. you can see the highlighted areas from the mountains to the valleys down through santa clara and the winds increased throughout the afternoon. so as you wake up in the morning, it's breezy. if you're at the coast, watch out, it is windy and quite dangerous throughout the 1:00 hour. we're approaching 50 miles per hour winds here with 35 from the north bay over into the east bay, even hayward. look at redwood city at 35 miles per hour wind gusts and throughout the rest of the day, slowly the winds will dial back. but right through the early evening hours, it is breezy to windy. 63 in oakland.

going to start this half hour with a look at the weather. here is lisa. >> good morning to you. tracking the fog and checking out the live cameras here from the north bay, you can see that moisture in the atmosphere. it is 52 in san francisco. 50 san jose, redwood city. the fog has been on the peninsula. south bay has been okay. modern air quality, not so great in the city. 48 in santa rosa. 47 in concord. so the fog from concord at zero mile visibility. two miles in hayward. delays at sfo improving in the north bay. and as we go through the afternoon, another mild day with a mix of clouds and sun. temperatures climbing through the 60s by noon. by 4:00, we're looking at some mid 60s and then the clouds for the evening hours is a dry and mild afternoon before big changes arrive for super bowl sunday. liz. >> thanks, lisa. happening now, a live look from the corner of mission delres park as crews are working to clean up this fallen tree. we first got word about an hour

or so about this. this is on delores and 18th street in san francisco. the tree has downed some power line necessary that area. no word on how many this is affecting in terms of power or when things might be fully cleaned up. new developments in the senate impeachment trial of president trump. just vote to go block witnesses to testify. it clears the way for president trump to be cleared when the final vote comes next week. there was a renewed push from democrats to hear from former national security adviser john bolton. in his published book, the president told him back in may to appreciate ukraine to investigate the bidens. democrats now have to reshape their final closing arguments. >> it's a great tragedy, one of the worst tragedies that the senate has ever overcome. >> senators are taking the weekend off, the vote on whether to equip the president won't come until wednesday. and president trump will deliver the state of the union address on tuesday, one day before the expected vote. you can watch it here live on abc 7 starting at 6:00 p.m.

the countdown is on, just two days now from the iowa caucuses. the first nominating contest of the primary season, first time votes will be cast. here is abc news reporter ines with the latest. >> the race is tightening with john delaney dropping out just days before the iowa caucus wes but there are still 11 competitors for the democratic nomination. >> making a final push before monday's caucuses, the first voting contest of the 2020 campaign. >> iowans really do take their role seriously. they don't think about who is going to be the best president for what i want. you're asking the question about who is the best president for the united states. >> a new wall street journal nbc news poll showing former vice president joe biden and senator bernie sanders neck and neck leading the democrats in iowa.

♪ . what i tried to do is focus more on making it look good and the ledgebility of the letters a little less. so a lot of times if you're in the middle of somebody's face, it's really hard to find the word in there, but it's also sometimes fine to try to find where the word goes. it starts up here and then it goes up to his eyebrow. >> it's like a lot of this. >> for the new york pieces, i did the new york city skyline and i wrote out the streets and neighborhoods for all five boroughs and i i wanted to make sure i got all the major landmarks in there. 1 world trade center. the empire state building, the statue of liberty, and i wanted to make sure i got a good angle from the sea of all three of those buildings. frank sinatra, the lyrics to "i did it my way" and both baseball stadium, shea stadium with the names of at least 855 mets.

we caught up with nate payne still looking to score a ticket and he has a game plan. >> probably last minute so i can come up and get a $500 or $1,000 ticket because there's always that significant other that doesn't show up. >> tickets are still going for thousands, so finding one for an eighth of the price would be a steal. although he's far from the only one hoping for a hail mary. >> do you have tickets yet? >> not yet. but we're definitely getting in. >> his wife is even more optimistic, hoping the odds are in her favorite. >> i'm turning 49 on february 1. so i'm 49 for 49 tickets are limited and prices are steep. most fans will find that.

right now, we're looking at haze and fog. a live shot here where the air quality is moderate. it looks smoggy there at the surface. if you want to go and wash the car, there's always that chance with that fog that that some of those solution particles get stuck on it. we're looking at temperatures in the 60s through the day today. milder elsewhere and a live look right here outside. and you'll notice that from or exploratorium camera, we have the fog. so we're going to remain dry with the low clouds, the fog throughout this morning and tomorrow we have gusty northwesterly winds that will scour out the relative humidity, the moisture in the levels of the atmosphere. but in terms of rain, it has
