from start to finish really there was a deep divide even before president trump delivered his remarks. when he did he tended to focus mostly on his accomplishments but like you said there, no mention of impeachment. ahead of his expected acquittal today and in the very same chamber that impeached him president trump delivered his third state of the union address. the political division between the parties palpable. the tone set even before a word was spoken. the president rejected house speaker nancy pelosi's outreached hand while on the republican side strong support. [ crowd chanting "four more years" ] >> reporter: the president began his address by touting his triumphs and a strong economy. jobs are booming. incomes are soaring. >> reporter: trump then pivoting to attack his political rivals. >> to those watching at home tonight, i want you to know we will never let socialism destroy american health care. >> reporter: speaker pelosi's jaw dropped as trump attacked the state of california. >> the state of california

passed an outrageous law declaring their whole state to be a sanctuary for criminal illegal immigrants. a very terrible sanctuary with catastrophic results. so long as i am president, i will always protect your second amendment right to keep and bear arms. >> reporter: fred guttenberg, who lost his 14-year-old daughter jamie in the parkland shooting, was escorted out of the gallery after he shouted when the president said he would protect gun rights. overnight guttenberg tweeted that it was a rough night. i disrupted the state of the union and was detained because i let my emotions get the best of me. i simply want to be able to deal with the reality of gun violence and not have to listen to the lies about the second amendment. there were some moving moments that seemed to offer glimpses of unity. a tuskegee airman who flew combat missions in world war ii and his great grandson were honored. along with the family of a soldier deployed in afghanistan

being reunited. >> tonight we have a very special surprise. i am thrilled to inform you that your husband is back from deployment. >> reporter: in a moment that seemed to energize republicans, president trump awarded a medal of freedom to controversial radio host rush limbaugh who announced this week he is battling advanced stage 4 lung cancer. >> i am proud to announce tonight that you will be receiving our country's highest civilian honor, the presidential medal of freedom. [ applause ] >> reporter: when trump wrapped up the political friction once again spilling out and on full display. speaker pelosi tearing up the president's speech and tossing it aside. why did you tear up the speech? >> because it was a manifesto of mistruths. >> reporter: and just like that it's on to the final day of the impeachment trial. the senate resumes at 9:30 this morning. kenneth, janai. >> kicking off what is expected to be another big and historic day on capitol hill.

andrew dymburt, thank you. and staying on capitol hill, the impeachment vote that is expected to acquit president trump is set for 4:00 p.m. today. senator susan collins, one of two republicans who voted to call witnesses at the trial, says the president's conduct was wrong but removing him from office is too extreme. >> i believe that the president has learned from this case. the president has been impeached. that's a pretty big lesson. i'm voting to acquit because i do not believe that the behavior alleged reaches the high bar in the constitution for overturning an election and removing a duly elected president. >> collins says she believes the president will be more cautious in the future. we turn now to the caucus chaos in iowa. more results trickled in overnight but still no winner has been declared. >> this morning the candidates are expressing their frustration

as we learn more about the app behind the chaos. overnight pete buttigieg taking a victory lap. pitching himself as the winner of the iowa caucuses even with results still being tallied. >> let me say that we're still waiting on more math to come through, but what we know without any doubt is that our vision has been validated. and it validates for a kid somewhere in a community wondering if he belongs or she belongs or they belong in their own family. >> reporter: as buttigieg celebrated in front of a new hampshire crowd, new video surfaced of a caucusgoer in iowa changing her vote to senator elizabeth warren after learning that buttigieg is gay. >> are you saying he's married to him? >> yes. >> then i don't want anybody like that in the white house. so can i have my card back? >> reporter: but with 71% of precincts reporting, buttigieg sits atop the field this

morning. nearly edging out senator bernie sanders while former vice president joe biden slips to 15% in fourth place, just two point as head of senator amy klobuchar. >> for some reason in iowa they're having a little bit of trouble counting votes. >> they ought to get it together and release all of the data. that's what we need. >> 24 hours later they're still trying to figure out what the heck happened in iowa. at this rate new hampshire might get the first vote after all. >> reporter: the iowa democratic party is now taking heat for the meltdown. the chair blames a coding error in the app used to report caucus results. >> as chair of the party i apologize deeply. >> reporter: this morning the democratic national committee says the app will not be used again. in an interview with bloomberg news, the company behind the app blames a bug that caused catastrophic impact adding they're disappointed the app created an issue that made the caucus difficult. we really feel terrible about that.

and just hours after the caucus, this awkwardly timed job posting by the company seeking a so-called client success representative. as a result of the chaos of iowa, michael bloomberg is now planning to double his spending on tv ads going forward. well, now to the coronavirus emergency. two more planes full of americans evacuating from china arrived in the u.s. hundreds of u.s. citizens on board will be screened at military bases in california then they'll be quarantined for two weeks. meanwhile, about 3,700 people are being held on board this cruise ship in japan. ten people on the ship have tested positive for the virus. many others are now worried about running out of prescription medicine while they're quarantined. >> we need to get out of here while we're still healthy and, you know, sitting in our rooms is not helping anything. besides, if we're not nourished, there's a bigger chance of

getting sick. >> reporter: that passenger says she'll run out of insulin within two weeks. meanwhile, overnight the death toll from the virus in china rose to nearly 500 people. a town near oklahoma city came together last night to mourn two teenagers killed in a hit-and-run crash near their high school this week. a truck slammed into a group of cross-country athletes. four others were injured. the driver who's had run-ins with the law before recently lost his car in a car crash. turning to the weather, a major winter storm is sweeping through the middle of the country. parts of texas and oklahoma are in the bull's-eye this morning. this is the scene in amarillo, texas. now let's take a closer look at your wednesday forecast. good morning. we're tracking this strong storm making its way through the mississippi river valley. on the back side where it's cold we've got some snow and ice. out ahead of it where we have the warmth heavy rainfall and thunderstorms that we're tracking for our day. where we do have the snow, central missouri back to west texas, a swath of three to six

to set a fire in this house almost set fire to themselves and ignited a flammable liquid causing an explosion and then they had trouble escaping. but they got away and they are still on the run overnight. new video may provide a major clue in the disappearance of a colorado boy. a neighbor found images of 11-year-old gannon stauch on home surveillance getting into a truck with his stepmother leticia on the day he was last seen. she apparently returned four hours later without him. the neighbor alerted the boy's dad after finding that video. >> i walked over to his father's house, knocked on the door, and i said, here's some video that you might want to see. he broke down. he's like, she lied and was like let's call investigators. >> the local authorities now have a copy of that video. today marks nine days since gannon was last seen. his stepmother has denied any role in his disappearance. a pilot for american airlines has been shot and killed in puerto rico. police say the pilot was caught in the cross fire outside a club in san juan early sunday

after some men got into a fight. the pilot was in puerto rico on a layover. macy's is the latest department store making big changes to compete with online retailers. the company will close 125 of its less profitable stores in the next three years. as part of a new strategy, it plans to open smaller stores in strip malls. a big announcement about breakfast. wendy's is going national with its morning menu beginning march 2nd. the company has been the only national fast food chain without a breakfast menu. it will offer nine sandwiches including the breakfast baconator. >> ooh. >> all right. >> more bacon, please. >> all right, wendy's. coming up, the major trade in major league baseball. but first the shocking new twist in the case against a tv doctor and his girlfriend accused of drugging and assaulting up to 1,000 women. and the outrage caught on camera at this school meeting. we hear from the father targeted by a racist comment against mexicans. mexicans.

we are back with a stunning development in the case against a tv doctor in california. >> prosecutors had claimed he was a charming doctor by day and a dangerous predator by night but now the charges are suddenly being dropped amid accusations the entire case was politically motivated. this morning reality tv dr. graham robicheaux is a vindicated man. >> there is a not single piece of evidence or video or photo that shows an unconscious or incapacitated woman being sexually assaulted. not one. >> the successful surgeon once facing more than 80 years behind bars cleared of his crimes after a shocking confession from a former district attorney. >> this case was used for campaign purposes. >> reporter: the well-known surgeon once featured on bravo's "online dating rituals of the american male" -- >> you seem too perfect. what's wrong with you?

>> reporter: -- was accused of drugging and sexually assaulting several women in 2018. >> it's a crime of a predatory nature. >> reporter: at the time prosecutors claimed robicheaux along with his girlfriend cerissa riley preyed on women in bars and on dating apps like bumble and tinder. >> things were being put in their drinks, and they're being made to lose their consciousness and wake up in locations that they don't know how they got there. >> reporter: tony rauckauckas, the d.a. at the time, said there could be as many as a thousand victims and insisted that there was video evidence to back up those allegations. >> i think we do have a strong case at this point. >> reporter: but those claims now revealed to be lies after rackauckas allegedly admitted to only trying the high-profile case to get re-elected. >> we can't even prove that riley and robicheaux engaged in any criminal sexual activity. >> reporter: on tuesday the new orange county d.a. not only announced he was dropping all

charges against robicheaux and riley but accused his predecessor of a blatant abuse of power. and the former d.a. has denied those allegations and claimed without evidence that the dismissal of the case may be tied to the district attorney's relationship with a defense attorney. a school meeting near detroit took a volatile turn after a parent shouted to another, why don't you stay in mexico. the meeting was addressing social media posts aimed at students of color. a latino man was talking about the racism his children faced when a white parent interrupted him. >> when i went into his bedroom to say good night and he was crying because of the abuse that he was enduring in this school system. >> then why didn't you stay in mexico? >> what? >> you need to leave. >> you can hear the collective gasps there from the crowd. the school released a statement saying this type of bigotry goes against all the values

and beliefs of our school system. the dad who was targeted by the remark is now speaking out saying he believes america is the greatest country in the world. >> there is no logic in that statement. i was not complaining about the country. i was not complaining about the community. i was complaining about a school environment. i know america. i'm a u.s. citizen. i've been here 40 years. >> the son of the man who made the racist remark said his father's comments gave him a sinking feeling, and he said it's important to call out racism when you see it. well, now to sports and a blockbuster trade in baseball. the red sox are trading mookie betts and david price to the dodgers in a three-way deal that includes the minnesota twins. the move is seen as a salary dump by the red sox. up next in "the pulse," the new breed at the westminster dog show. also ahead, everyone hates getting bills in the mail but what about getting 55,000 of them at once? >> not paying any of them.

all day strong. breaking news right now at 4:27, two planes carrying coronavirus evacuees have landed at travis air force base in solano county. sky 7 is capturing the video of the first plane landing at 3:59 this morning, less than 30 minutes ago. this plane came from wuhan, china filled with americans evacuated from the country due to the growing outbreak. look at this, minutes ago at 4:23, the second plane filled with evacuees landed. so altogether, 350 evacuees are arriving at travis air force base. one of these planes will refuel and eventually fly on to miramar marine air station to take some evacuees there. >> now let's take a live look at
