>> good morning. 350 americans are now here at travis air force base. we have video of that second plane landing just arriving from china within the last half hour. paz passengers were screened for coronavirus before they left china and now they'll be screened again. if they test positive, they will be taken to the hospital. one of the two airplanes will be leaving here for southern california, but some evacuees will be staying here, which has some people who live here in fairfield a bit nervous. >> there are people out there that have compromised immune systems, this would be, you know, detrimental to them. >> a lot of people on our facebook groups and community groups are terrified. it's a hysteria, i feel like, like with the swine flu and the bird flu. >> the evacuee also stay at the

impeachment. abc news will have live cov live around 1:00 p.m. president trump delivered his state of the union address, it felt like a political rally with showmanship and heavy partisanship on display. it started with the president declining to shake house speaker nancy pelosi's hand at the podium before the speech and then it ended with pelosi, as you can see here, ripping up her copy of the president's speech when it ended. >> why did you tear up the speech? >> it's a manifesto of mistruths. >> the president began his address touting his triumphs and a strong economy. >> to those watching at home tonight, i want you to know we will never let socialism destroy american health care. >> the president did not mention the word impeachment during his address. instead he just ignored it

altogether. wie gettie're getting react president trump's state of the union address. in the bay area, no surprise, a lot of negative reaction. governor newsom tweeting i believe with all my heart that america stands ready to reject the dark, discriminatory dangerous policies of donald trump, and to do it by record margins. let's show up. let's vote. senator kamala harris tweeting in part we heard a lot of words from him tonight but his actions make it clear his complete disregard for our most fundamental values including the rule of law. and eric swalwell saying hear, well, that was mostly appalling. president trump's speech is not just drawing strong opinions from politicians. >> chris reyes has reaction from local voters. >> the inclusiveness of the speech, he included everyone in

every achievement mentioned but in this room it was all about what wasn't said. >> there was nothing said about climate change or plans to bring troops home. >> reporter: what had you clapping the loudest? >> just the constant thing about optimism. that's how my campaign is, solutions, just get things done. >> reporter: the only things both sides could agree on, the polarization is sad and unproductive. >> i was looking for things we had in common. the trial for the man accused of stabbing and killing 18-year-old nia wilson will get under way. john lee cowell stabbed wilson on the platform of macarthur b.a.r.t. station in july of 2018. her sister was stabbed as well but she survived. cowell's attorney said her client had severe delusions and paranoia, but a judge ruled cowell was fit to stand stril. opening statements will start today. san jose police need help identifying three suspects in a

deadly stabbing. they just released this sifd which was ta surveillance video which was taken after the attack. three suspects are seen running across the street on alum rock avenue. they're thought to be in their early teens. an 18-year-old man was killed in october after a fight broke out on alum rock avenue near highway 101. abc7 is focused on the ways that people are building a better area, that includes addressing the housing crisis. daly city will break ground on a four story complex that will be rented at below market rates to teachers and staff of the jefferson union high school district. the building will contain 120 units. this is the nation's first bond-funded school district housing project. the 49ers will head into the off season after sunday's disappointing loss to the chiefs in super bowl liv. >> the team flew back from miami on monday. today niners players will be at the practice facility in santa

it's 5:14, here's 7 things to know today. number one, breaking news, two planes carrying coronavirus evacuees from wuhan, china have landed at travis air force base. one plane is dropping off passengers and will be quarantined for 14 days. the other will refuel and continue on to southern california. number two, today is the final day of president trump's impeachment hearing in the senate. the senate resumes at 6:30 this morning with senators having up to ten minutes to speak. a final vote is expected to start at 1:00 this afternoon. president trump delivering his state of the union address last night. he made no reference to the impeachment proceedings. at the end of the speech, house speaker nancy pelosi tore up her copy of the state of the union.

be given an hour of direct sunlight a week. this was after a group of inmates filed a lawsuit claiming the lack of sun and outdoor exercise was cruel and unusual punishment. california schools give physical fitness tests to grades 5, 7 and 9 every year but the governor wants to suspend those tests. the governor says he wants to stop physical testing until 2023. he said he is concerned the tests lead to body shaming, bullying and gender identity discrimination. students would still would still to take pe class. pebble beach and bill murray is back. other celebrities attending are aaron rodgers and steve young and huey lewis. the celebrity challenge is happening today. the tournament starts tomorrow. there will be new competition in this year's westminster kennel club dog

they will be screened now that they landed here in the united states. these are americans who were in china and finally evacuated. two planes have landed at travis. one will be leaving for southern california. the other is staying. so we're told about250 people wi will be staying here. these people will be quaranti quarantined, but that's not enough to ease concerns of some people who live in fairfield. they are worried about these new visitors. >> first concern was for our local people who work at travis, not just people in the military. we have civilians that work there. >> the planes landed about an hour and a half ago. they landed within a half hour of each other. travis air force base is one of four locations where evacuees from china, americans, will be quarantined here in the states. they're going to stay at a hotel

here on base. it's called the west wind inn, it's on travis air force base. they will be in isolation for two weeks. that's the incubation period for the coronavirus. they will be screened regularly. if they show symptoms they will be taken to the hospital. at this time there's no word that any of these people are sick. amy hollyfield, abc7 news. >> thanks for that update. concern over the virus is having a growing impact around the bay area. in oakland, the school district sent out a voice message asking all students, staff and families to self-quarantine for two weeks if they recently returned from china. in san jose, five health care workers at good samaritan hospital have been told to stay home after coming in contact with a coronavirus patient. they were exposed to that person after they came into the hospital for treatment. the pai there are no new cases in

scholar santa clara county so far. police in fremont are investigating a freeway shooting near northbound 880. someone opened fire on the black bmw after 3:00 a.m. the driver was safely able to get to a fire station. there were two bullet holes in the car, but nobody got hurt. we'll bring you new details as soon as we get them. also new, the oakland fire department is investigating the cause of a fire in a portable unit at the fire training academy. the battalion chief is saying it appears to have been an electrical fire. it strted just before 11:30 last night at the academy on victory court. the men's locker room had minor damage. a federal judge approved a settlement that moves pg&e closer to getting out of bankruptcy. it will allow the utility to refinance billions of dollars to repay bond holders. pg&e is positioned to get out of bankruptcy by june 30th. governor newsom says it has to make major changes including replacing the entire board of directors and ceo, bill johnson.

san francisco mayor london breed says she supports an investigation into the arrest into public works director mohammed nuru. the city controller is looking into contracts awarded at the department and at sfo. the fbi arrested nuru and local restaurant owner nick bovis last month. agents say nuru tried to bribe an airport official into giving bovis a license for an eatery at the restaurant. the mayor said nothing matters more than restoring the public trust in our government. our residents deserve it and the hard working men and women of our city deserve it. now to the results slowly coming in from the iowa caucuses. pete buttigieg appears to be in the lead.

president trump pulled out all the stops last night at the state of the union address using it as a platform for his upcoming campaign and using his made for tv talents to highlight his guests. >> the division between the parties was also on display. we go to capitol hill for the latest. good morning. >> good morning. division was seen from start to finish during this state of the union address. even before the president started his remarks, you could see the division between nancy pelosi and the president, but when the president did begin to speak, he focused mostly on his accomplishments but no mention of impeachment. >> reporter: ahead of his expected acquittal today and in the same chamber that impeached him, president trump delivered his third state of the union address. the political division between the parties palatable. the tone set before a word was spoken. the president rejected house speaker nancy pelosi's outreached hand.

were under surveillance when officers say they drove to the golden gate bridge welcome center. investigators say in a matter of seconds they broke into three vehicles. officers followed them to the parking lot at stones town galleria in san francisco where they arrested them. police say they found stolen property from at least 18 break-ins. a big step forward in an effort to move a historic building and turn it into affordable housing. abc7 news was in san jose where the preservation action council presented a $10,000 check to habitat for humanity. it will help pay for the restoration of the palstone apartment building. te hoecation location it sits on is set to become a high rise building. the developer offered to move the building to city-owned land a few blocks away. habitat will turn it into affordable housing. city leaders say the deal sends a message that san jose does not bill dose its history but saves it instead. right now california state
