the toll plaza, all green and good. moving to the south bay, we have two crashes to talk about here. this is northbound 101 past the oakland road on-ramp. three cars involved here. one lane partially blocked. speeds are low. a single car spin out, northbound 280 at the lawrence expressway on-ramp. one lane is blocked right now. back to our breaking news. two planes carrying coronavirus evacuees have landed at travis air force base. >> sky 7 was live as both planes landed this morning. you can see them both next to each other on the tarmac. the first plane took off from wuhan, china last night, and landed about 4:00 this morning. the second plane landed about 30 minutes later. amy hollyfield has more from the base. >> there is no word that any of these people are sick, but they are still handling them with a lot of caution. we have seen people on the

ground at travis air force base in hazmat suits being careful just in case. they will be screening them now that they landed. these are americans who were in china and have now been evacuated and they were screened in china. they'll be screened again here. two planes have landed here at travis. one will be leaving for southern california at 8:15 this morning. the other is staying. these people will be quarantined, some people living in fairfield are still worried about their presence. >> there are people out there who have compromised immune systems. this would be detrimental to them. >> a lot of people on our facebook groups and community groups are terrified. it's a hysteria, i feel like, like with the swine flu and the bird flu. >> the first plane landed about 4:00 this morning. the second about a half hour later. travis air force base is one of four locations in the state where evac ways from china will be quarantined.

they will stay at a hotel on the base. they will be in isolation for two weeks. that's the incubation period for the coronavirus. they will be screened regularly and if they show symptoms they will be taken to the hospital. at this time, no word that any of these people are sick. about 250 people will be staying here. the other 100 will be traveling to southern california. that plane will take off in a couple hours. reporting live from travis air force base, amy hollyfield, abc7 news. >> thank you. today's the final day of president trump's impeachment hearing in the senate. the senate resumes in about an hour and a half with senators having up to ten minutes to speak. a final vote will begin at 1:00 this afternoon. the republican controlled senate is expected to acquit the president on both articles of impeachment. abc news will have live coverage around 1:00 p.m. president trump delivered his state of the union address, at times it kind of felt like a political rally with showmanship and heavy partisanship on display. it started with the president declining to shake house speaker

nancy pelosi's hand at the podium before the speech and then it ended with pelosi, as you can see here, ripping up her copy of the president's speech when it ended. >> why did you tear up the speech? >> it's a manifesto of mistruths. >> the president began his address touting his triumphs and a strong economy. >> to those watching at home tonight, i want you to know we will never let socialism destroy american health care. >> the president did not mention the word impeachment during his address. instead he just ignored it altogether. we're getting reaction to president trump's state of the union address. in the bay area, no surprise, a lot of negative reaction. governor newsom tweeting i believe with all my heart that america stands ready to reject the dark, discriminatory dangerous policies of donald

trump, and to do it by record margins. let's show up. let's vote. senator kamala harris tweeting in part we heard a lot of words from him tonight but his actions make it clear his complete disregard for our most fundamental values including the rule of law. and eric swalwell saying, well, that was mostly appalling and ending with that hashtag. happening today, the trial for the man accused of stabbing and killing 18-year-old nia wilson will get under way in alameda county. john lee cowell stabbed wilson on the platform of macarthur b.a.r.t. station in july of 2018. her sister was stabbed as well but she survived. cowell's attorney said her client had severe delusions and paranoia, but a judge ruled cowell was fit to stand still. opening statements will start today. san jose police need help identifying three suspects in a deadly stabbing. they just released this surveillance video which was taken after the attack.

you can see the three suspects are seen running across the street on alum rock avenue. the suspects are thought to be in their early teens. an 18-year-old man was killed in october after a fight broke out on alum rock avenue near highway 101. abc7 is focused on the ways that people are building a better area, that includes addressing the housing crisis. daly city will break ground on a four story complex that will be rented at below market rates to teachers and staff of the jefferson union high school district. the building will contain 120 units. this is the nation's first bond-funded school district housing project. the 49ers will head into the first san francisco decided to ban private cars on market street, now another bay area city is considering a similar restriction on a busy road. according to the east bay times, a berkeley city councilman is proposing telegraph avenue should be car-free. that would go from dwight way to

6:27 on this wednesday. the oscars are on sunday. the weather, a slight chance of showers are and 62 as they walk the red carpet. conditions are set to improve for some detainees awaiting trial at the san francisco jail. a federal judge says inmates who have been in pretrial custody for more than four years have to be given access to at least one hour of direct sunlight a week. the preliminary injunction was filed after a group of inmates said the lack of sunlight and outdoor exercise was cruel and unusual punishment.

california schools give physical fitness tests to grades 5, 7 and 9 every year but the governor wants to suspend those tests. the governor says he wants to stop physical testing until 2023. he said he is concerned the tests lead to body shaming, bullying and gender identity discrimination. the proposal would only change the testing. students would still be retired to take pe class. this award season welcomed a slew of diverse talent. there was awkwafina becoming the first asian american to win the golden globe for best actress. the south korean thriller, parasite, garnering six award winning nominations. but the lack of female directors has led to backlash. after a diverse group of nominees with green book, "black panther" and roma taking oem statu home statues, the 2020 nominations were lackluster this

china and have now been evacuated. some people were on scene with hazmat suits on. two planes landed here at travis air force base. one will be leaving for southern california at 8:15, but the other is staying. about 250 people are staying here. they will be quarantined. but that is not enough to ease concerns of some who live here in fairfield. they're very worried about these new visitors. >> first concern was for our local people who work at travis, not just people in the military. we have civilians that work there. >> the first plane landed about 4:00, the second one came in about a half hour later. travis air force base is one of four locations where evacuees from china, americans, will be quarantined here in the states. they're going to stay at a hotel here on base. it's called the west wind inn,

they will be in isolation for two weeks. that's the incubation period for the coronavirus. they'll be screened regularly. if they show any symptoms, we're told they will be taken to the hospital. at this time, there is no word that any of these people are sick. reporting live at travis air force base, amy hollyfield, abc7 news. >> thank you. concern over the virus is having a growing impact around the bay area. in oakland, the school district sent out a voice message asking all students, staff and families to self-quarantine for two weeks if they recently returned from china. in san jose, five health care workers at good samaritan hospital have been told to stay home after coming in contact with a coronavirus patient. they were exposed to that person after they came into the hospital for treatment. the patient is one of two previously confirmed coronavirus cases in santa clara county. there are no new cases in santa clara county so far. in fremont, police are investigating a freeway shooting near northbound 880.

officers say that someone opened fire on the black bmw after 3:00 a.m. the driver was safely able to get to a fire station. there were two bullet holes in the car, but nobody got hurt. we'll bring you more details as soon as we get them. also new, the oakland fire department is investigating the cause of a fire in a portable unit at the fire training academy. the battalion chief is saying it appears to have been an electrical fire. it started just before 11:30 last night at the academy on victory court. the men's locker room had minor damage. results slowly coming in from the iowa caucuses. still about three quarters of the precincts reporting. pete buttigieg leads with about 27%. bernie sanders has 25%. elizabeth warren is third followed by joe biden and amy klobuchar. party leaders blame the reporting delay on a coding error in the app they were using. they promised a full investigation. president trump pulled out

building a better bay area is also including building a better transit system. right now california state assemblyman david choo says the system is unreliable, fragmented. he thinks a part of the problem is there's different prices and schedules on different systems which makes using transition confusing. for example, a single adult father for marin transit is $2, 2.25 on samtrans, and semta, ac transit charges 2.50. he is proposing assembly bill 2057. some of the key objectives are setting up a universal bus fare, same discount fares for bus riders and realtime data. >> after investing billions of dollars into transportation in recent decades, only 3% of bay area trips are made with transit. >> a task force will be set up to draw up the new policies around regional fares and coordinating schedules.
