coast. a little bit of a breeze will keep us around 57 for the coast. 50 to 55 at 7:00. quiet pattern today. i hope you enjoy it. at the live desk dramatic video to share with you right now. a truck caught fire at the port of oakland overnight and look at this. flames engulfing the vehicle. it was parked inside a lock near middle harbor road. the driver was able to escape unharmed. oakland firefighters responded to the blaze quickly and eng tin extinguished the fire. this did not stop work overnight at the port. this morning there is more fallout from the growing coronavirus outbreak. >> overnight saudi arabia banned its citizens from traveling to china. it warns anyone who violates that won't be allowed back. two mar planes carrying american evacuees from china will land in the u.s. today. they will arrive in nebraska and texas.

all passengers will be quarantined for two weeks. at least 563 people have died from coronavirus in china. more than 28,000 are sick. a newborn in china is the youngest person to be infected. the infant tested positive just 30 hours after birth. the newborn's mom has coronavirus but it's not clear if the virus was passed on in the womb or after birth. in the u.s. there are 12 cases. one confirmed yesterday in wisconsin. 178 americans are being quarantined at travis air force base after their plane from wuhan, china landed yesterday. the cdc reports a child on the plane had a fever and was taken to hospital. the other passengers are staying at a hotel on the base. daisy roth shared these photos of her room. her husband said they were visiting family in wuhan. >> they arrived at the airport at 3:00 p.m. on tuesday, and they did not take off until more than 24 hours later. and that's an airport with no

shops open. it was just waiting and getting their temperature taken. it was really exhausting for my wife and daughters. >> everyone in quarantine at travis will be continually screened for coronavirus. you can learn more about the symptoms of the novel coronavirus and how you can protect yourself by going to our website, abc7news.com. president trump says he will make a statement this morning about his acquittal on impeachment charges. the senate cleared him of obstruction of congress and abuse of power yesterday. utah republican senator mitt romney was the only lawmaker to break ranks. he voted to convict the president on the abuse of power charge. mr. trump is only the third commander in chief to be impeached. the 12-day trial is the only one that did not include subpoenas for witnesses or documents. there was strong reaction to president trump's acquittal. americans who wanted him convicted held rallies across the bay area. protests in san francisco, mountain view, oakland and palo

alto. more than 160 of these events were held nationwide. a california assemblyman is proposing legislation banning pg&e from donating to state politicians and candidates. according to the "sacramento bee," kevin kylie says he wants to end the intertwined relationship between the state and pg&e because of the utility's responsibility for recent tragedies like the 2018 camp fire that killed 85 people. the pg&e donated more than $5 million in 2017 and 2018 to assembly, state senate and statewide campaigns as well as ballot measures and local and city council races. san francisco's public works boss, mohammed nuru will appear in federal court to face public corruption charges. he will appear with nick bovis who the feds also indicted for involvement in the schemes. fib f fbi visiting the planning department yesterday were searching for files related to

the 555 fulton street project. the chinese billionaire behind the project wined and dined nuru in a pay for play scheme to win city approval for the project. jurors will hear more testimony today in the trial of the man accused of stabbing b.a.r.t. passenger nia wilson to death. the jury watched surveillance video yesterday and it shows a man who police say is the suspect, john cowl, stabbing wilson and her sister from behind. it happened at the macarthur b.a.rt. station in july of 2018. wilson's mom was in court and said she couldn't bear to watch the video. >> they didn't do anything, any didn't see him or react to him. pure evil. >> wilson's sister survived the attack and at one point the judge kicked cowell out of the courtroom because of outbursts. the pride board of directors met to discuss a vote on banning youtube and google from the

parade this year. anser hassan has more. >> the board decided not to ban google or anybody else from the parade. >> reporter: san francisco pride parade executive fred lopez says the controversy to ban google from this year's parade began at a january 15th meeting. that's when members of sf pride voted to keep google out. but that vote was nonbinding. >> i regret the fact that within our community, we're fighting against each other when we don't have to. >> reporter: sf pride's board president addressed that vote and the concerns over how google treats its lbtg employees. >> i think that some action needs to be taken. there's incredible amounts of transphobia online, and it seems to just go. >> reporter: they have since met with google and have seen immediate changes. she says it's best to work from within than to ban an important community partner. >> everyone is saying we want to

nearing 50. we drop down to the low 30s with some snow showers, but just a couple of inches is possible. then it gets warm again next week. lawrence livermore lab is joining research teams triing to figu trying to figure out what makes the coronavirus tick. they are using one of the world's super commuters to see what proteins make up the virus. >> the new coronavirus is not very well understood yet where it's what you can't see that can hurt you. that's why scientists have put long hours into creating this 3d image of the proteins at the core of the coronavirus. looking for a spot where antibodies can attack it. there's just one problem. >> the structure of the key protein that we want to target is not known. taking their best guess using the dna makeup of a close cousin of the coronavirus, the sars virus that killed nearly 800 people in the early 2000s. >> from that structure we can

begin to design a therapeutic antibody that binds to it and neutralizes it. >> reporter: at least that's the hope, but since the two are not identical, the model will be refined using the lab's own super computer sierra, rated as the second most powerful in the world. forget one of these. the computer lawrence livermore scientists used to come up with their model does more calculations in one second than you could do in 31 billion years. and it's still not powerful enough to predict how the virus could change over time and it will. >> even with the biggest super computers in the world, we can't evaluate all possible designs. >> reporter: that's where experience and intuition comes in. the question is what do you want to look at, what are the possibilities. how do you make those decisions? >> reporter: the model is not detailed enough to answer those questions yet, but it is a place to start. eric thomas, abc7 news. 20 southern california

firefighters are back home this morning from australia after battling those devastating bush fires. the u.s. forrest service team spent close to a month in the middle of australia. they say they were well prepared for the fires because the flames and fire behavior were similar to here in southern california. when they got to australia they said they received a standing ovation. >> we are there to do a job. everybody is appreciative. the public and all the firefighters there were great. >> they were also appreciated here when they got back greeted by family and friends. >> redoing that bad driver's license photo may get easier. a new state bill would let you take up to three pictures and pick the one you like. the money would would support driver education and training programs. a similar bill was introduced in 2018 but nothing came of that. >> this is important. >> i knew you were going to say

. coming sunday we have the oscars. a lot of you like to watch the red carpet and see what everybody is wearing. just a chance of showers, 64 degrees. uber's self-driving vehicles may soon be roaming the streets again. they have been issued a permit by the dmv to resume testing autonomous vehicles in california. this is nearly two years after uber scaled back its testing program after a crash in arizona that killed a pedestrian. uber says san francisco is a great city to test self-driving technology but it didn't say when that might happen. hollywood has lost a star of its golden era. kirk douglas died in los angeles yesterday. he was 103. douglas made a career out of playing tough guys. he started in films like the bad
