ferries are on the winter schedule. b.a.r.t. has 11 trains running now. ace 1, no delays. mass transit alert on the b.a.r.t. service expansion, that begins monday. earlier weekday service on some lines and two-line service into san francisco on sundays. also live look at the golden gate bridge, we have very light traffic this morning. everything is smooth at 5:00 a.m. richmond-san rafael bridge, same story here. no problems to report right now. reggie and kumasi? >> thanks. developing news, the chp investigating a freeway shooting on i-880 in oakland. this happened before 11:00 last night near 23rd avenue. nobody got hurt, but as you can see there are bullet holes on this car and the driver side window was shattered. no arrests have been announced. this comes less than 24 hours after a freeway shooting in fremont. officers say somebody opened fire on a black bmw near the mano

mowrey avenue on-ramp. the driver was able to safely get to a fire station. there were two bullet holes in the car but nobody was hurt no word on motives or if the two shootings might be related. president trump will speak about the preechimpeachment trim the white house this morning. it is now over. one loan republican broke with the party and sided with democrats. andrew dymburt has more on that. >> good morning. so senator romney's vote to remove the president from office had no real effect on the end result, but still it's going to be remembered. >> the president won. the office of the president won. the constitution won. >> reporter: the deeply divisive trial to remove the president from office ends in acquittal. >> we always knew it was an uphill fight. no one had illusions that the president would be convicted. >> reporter: president trump and

the debate will be tomorrow in new hampshire. you can watch it on abc7 starting at 5:00 tomorrow night. a bizarre crime at a preschool has a community on the peninsula rattled. someone vandalized a millbrae nursery schoolyard and killed their pet chickens. some of these photos may be disturbing for you. four chickens were found mutilated. one in the coop and three lined up behind the preschool fence. a fifth chicken is still missing. >> there's a great violation and uneasiness that we all are now feeling. what's next? children? other adults? you know, where does this stop? >> the sheriff's office is investigating. they say they can't conclusively determine the chickens were killed by a person. the school, which serves many low-income families has a gofundme page to raise money for cameras and floodights in the yard. the city of fremont will put boulders on a road that borders the tesla manufacturing plant in

an effort to keep people from parking rvs there. cato road parallels interstate 880 and runs in front of the plant. the city says homeless people have taken up residence inside rvs parked on the shoulder and i guess the city had enough. so later today city crew also restrict parking for all vehicles on cato road. rvs will be towed and boulders will be installed to keep the shoulder clear. a new ballot measure in san francisco could build a better bay area by helping more people find affordable housing. mayor breed says the affordable homes now plan would remove delays on new housing projects that either have 15% more a230rdible units than currently required or are 100% affordable. breed says cutting the red tape could allow crews to build homes months faster than the current process allows. let's look at our temperatures. starting up in the north bay.

new yorkers cannot enroll in programs like global entry. the federal government says they suspended enroll 78 lments becaf a new state law that presents i.c.e. from accessing motor vehicle records without a court order. the law allows undocumented immigrants to apply for driver's licenses. the governor says the move was politically motivated. united airlines is buying a flight school. united acquired flight training academy that the airline says will graduate 300 pilots in just the first full year. the airline is hoping to put more women and people of color throughout the program. it will offer scholarships and low-cost loans to candidates. industry observers say there will be a critical shortage of pilots in the near future as aviators retire. an east bay high school is developing a future fit for the future. pittsburg high school will teach students how to maintain and

repair autonomous vehicles. the principal says students who complete the program will be ready to apply to entry to mid level jobs in the industry. he says the program is the first of its kind in the state. are san francisco dogs bougie to the bone? >> a new bakery is selling luxury dog treats, including an organic birthday cake. it's called mishka on main street. they make birthday cakes filled with chicken, beef or lamb. they also offer an assortment of smaller treats with flecks of gold leaf for $12 to $26. the reviews are mostly positive on yelp but one post says my dog loves them. what do you think. >> my dog would love this. when i think about it, my dog also would love to eat a piece of half eaton chicken that someone discarded on the ground

bay, for the second time in less than 24 hours, the chp's investigating freeway shootings. >> the first one happened in fremont around 3:00 in the morning yesterday. the second occurred just before 11:00 last night near 23rd avenue in oakland. amy hollyfield is live in hayward with details. amy? >> good morning. the chp says the key to solving these cases is community involvement. they need witnesses to come forward. the first shooting happened at 3:00 in the morning yesterday. it was in fremont on interstate 880. someone opened fire on a black bmw. the driver was okay and got himself safely to a fire station. the second shooting happened about 20 hours later, also on 880. this time in oakland. a car was shot at at 23rd avenue. you can see bullet holes in the car, it was hit, but the driver was not.

no one was hurt. so two-in-one day. there was also one in oak oak sunday. so three this week. they don't know if they are connected. officers say these crimes are tough to solve. the crimes happen so quickly, the shooter is on the move and escapes out of there very fast. reporting live at the hayward chp offices, amy hollyfield, abc7 news. >> thank you. we have some dramatic video to share with you. a truck caught fire at the port of oakland overnight. flames engulfing the vehicle. it was parked inside a lot near middle harbor road. the driver was able to escape unharmed. oakland firefighters responded to the blaze quickly and extinguished the fire. no word on the cause of the fire. thanks. there's more fallout of the growing coronavirus outbreak.

>> overnight saudi arabia banned its citizens from traveling to china. it warns anyone who violates that won't be allowed back. two more planes carrying american evacuees from china will land in the u.s. today. they will arrive in nebraska and texas. all passengers will be quarantined for two weeks. at least 563 people have died from coronavirus in china. more than 28,000 are sick. a newborn in china is the youngest person to be infected. the infant tested positive just 30 hours after birth. the newborn's mom has coronavirus but it's not clear if the virus was passed on in the womb or after birth. in the u.s. there are 12 cases. one confirmed yesterday in wisconsin. this morning 178 americans are being quarantined at travis air force base after their plane from wuhan, china landed yesterday. the cdc reports a child on the plane had a fever and was taken t hospital. the other passengers are staying at a hotel on the base. daisy roth shared these photos o her room.

her husband said his wife and daughters were visiting family in wuhan. >> they arrived at the airport at 3:00 p.m. on tuesday, and they did not take off until more than 24 hours later. and that's an airport with no shops open. it was just waiting and getting their temperature taken. it was really exhausting for my wife and daughters. >> everyone in quarantine at travis will be continually screened for coronavirus. you can learn more about the symptoms of the coronavirus and how you can protect yourself by going to our website, abc7news.com. president trump says he will make a statement this morning about his acquittal on impeachment charges. the senate cleared him of obstruction of congress and abuse of power yesterday. utah republican senator mitt romney was the only lawmaker to break ranks. he voted to convict the president on the abuse of power charge. mr. trump is only the third commander in chief to be impeached. the 12-day trial is the only one that did not include subpoenas for witnesses or documents.

there was strong reaction to president trump's acquittal. americans who wanted him convicted held rallies across the bay area. protests in san francisco, mountain view, oakland and palo alto. organizers say that more than 160 of these events were held nationwide. a california assemblyman is proposing legislation banning pg&e from donating to state politicians and candidates. according to the "sacramento bee," republican kevin kylie says he wants to end the intertwined relationship between the state and pg&e because of the utility's responsibility for recent tragedies like the 2018 camp fire that killed 85 people and destroyed the town of paradise. pg&e donated more than $5 million in 2017 and 2018 to assembly, state senate and statewide campaigns as well as ballot measures and local and city council races. san francisco's public works boss, mohammed nuru, will appear in federal court to face public corruption charges. he will appear with nick bovis who the feds also indicted for

involvement in the schemes. according to the website mission local, fib officials visited the planning department yesterday, and they were sarching for files related to the 555 fulton street project. the u.s. attorney alleges that the chinese billionaire behind the project wined and dined nuru in a pay for play scheme to win city approval for the project. jurors will hear more testimony today in the trial of the man accused of stabbing b.a.r.t. passenger nia wilson to death. the jury watched surveillance video yesterday and it shows a man who police say is the suspect, john cowl, stabbing wilson and her sister from behind. it happened at the macarthur b.a.r.t. station in july of 2018. wilson's mom was in court and said she couldn't bear to watch the video. >> they didn't do anything, any didn't see him or react to him. pure evil. >> wilson's sister survived the attack and at one point the judge kicked cowell out of the courtroom because of outbursts. he was eventually allowed to come back in. google will be allowed to

take part in the san francisco pride parade. organizers last night decided not to move forward with the ban on the tech company participating. sf pride members held a nonbinding vote last month to restrict the tech tighttans participation. some were upset over how google treated lbgtq people. they say they have spoke with google and said they are impressed with some of the changes. >> everyone is saying we want to be in your parade. well, you need to hear what our community is saying about the organization and we're going to hold their feet to the fire. >> there were also calls to ban the alameda sheriff's department. the department has actually never been a part of the parade. coming up, local scientists join the fight against coronavirus. the powerful technology they're using to unlock its secrets. a new costco coming to the east bay. the next step in that project. we'll get to those stories

here when they got back greeted by family and friends. genetic testing service ancestry is laying off 6% of its work force. about 100 people. it will effect some workers in san francisco. the ceo says the layoffs are because of a big slowdown in demand for genetic testing. a spokesperson called the layoffs incredibly difficult. 23 and me, another service, announced it would be cutting its work force by 14%. costco is coming to pleasanton. according to the east bay times, the city council approved a measure to establish a new development project it involves a 40 acre site along johnson drive between stone ridge drive and i-580. thecy pl city plans to add a co hotels and a drive-thru coffee house. uber's self driving vehicles may soon be roaming the streets again. the company says it has been

issued a permit by the dmv to allow it to resume testing autonomous vehicles in california. this is nearly two years after uber scaled back its testing program after a crash in arizona that killed a pedestrian. uber says san francisco is a great city to test self-driving technology but it didn't say when that might happen. redoing that bad driver's license photo may be easier. a new state bill would let you take up to three pictures and then do photo approval. pick the one you like. each new photo would cost 5 bucks. that extra money would support driver education and training programs. if it's passed, the change could go into effect by january 1, 2022. a similar bill was introduced in 2018 but for whatever reason that did not go anywhere. so, what do you think? >> friend, i think you -- that looks good. >> not bad, right? >> you don't need a redo. you have light. >> i have light. teeth featured. >> a nice smile.
