investigating. they say they can't conclusively determine the chickens were killed by a person. the school, which serves many low-income families has a gofundme page to raise money for cameras and flood lights in the yard. developing news on the iowa caucuses. new numbers are in showing pete buttigieg and bernie sanders are virtually tied. that's with 97% of the precincts reporting. that's with 97% of the precincts reporting. today is the deadline for democratic presidential candidates to qualify for the eighth debate in new hampshire tomorrow. candidates will have to meet certain qualifications. seven candidates have qualified. that includes joe biden, pete buttigieg, amy klobuchar, bernie sanders, tom steyer, elizabeth warren and andrew yang. the debate will be tomorrow in new hampshire. you can watch it on abc7 starting at 5:00. today the city of fremont takes steps to clear the homeless from a busy road near tesla's factory. and keanu reeves returns to the bay area.

depictures of usually white characters were replaced with images of other races. critics are calling it literary black face. they say it's disrespectful to highlight white authors using black faces instead of promoting black writers. barnes & noble has now suspended that initiative. that could be a hot topic for later today on midday live. >> we have a lot to ta abosay a that. the oscars are this weekend, besides the more recognizable categories, many talents behind the scenes are being honored. >> pablo helman worked on the irishman. the director and one of the film's stars told pablo they didn't want to use facial markers which tracks movement into a digital database but can be distracting on set, so he had to figure a way around that.

near 60 at noon. 58 at the coast. mid 60s at 4:00. a bit warmer than average. still comfortable during the evening hours. 50 to 56 at 7:00. earlier it was quiet on the roads. let's check in with jobina. >> not so much anymore. we just got off the phone with a chp officer. this is the southbound side and northbound side of 17 past vine hill road. there's at least one person trapped inside of a car. it looks like four vehicles are involved. he was not clear on how many lanes are blocked. you can see from the map there is a slowdown in that area. expect delays in the santa cruz moun mountains. up to vallejo, this is westbound 37 past mare island. a crash involving one car and a semi. it went from two lanes to one lane. expect delays in that area. live look at the bay bridge toll plaza, metering lights came on at 5:11.

once you make it through the toll plaza, smooth sailing on the bridge. >> thank you. developing news in the east bay, for the second time in less than 24 hours, the chp is investigating freeway shootings. >> the first one happened in fremont around 3:00 in the morning yesterday. this was near the mowry on-ramp. the second occurred just before 11:00 last night near 23rd avenue in oakland. amy hollyfield is live at chp offices in hayward with details. good morning. >> good morning. i checked in with a chp officer, he said no arrests have been made in the cases. they are asking for witnesses to please come forward. the first one happened at the beginning of the day. it was 3:00 in the morning. they were both on 880. the second one happened at the end of the day. the first one was in fremont. officers say someone opened fire on a black bmw near the mowery on-ramp. it was just after 3:00 in the morning. the driver was able to safely get to a fire station. there were two bullet holes in

the car, but nobody was hurt. the second one happened 11:00 last night in oakland. this was northbound 880 at 23rd avenue. that car also has some bullet holes in it. the car was hit but no one was hurt. so two lucky situations in these cases. there was also one on sunday, so really there's been three this week. no word on motives or if any of these are related. reporting live at the hayward chp offices, amy hollyfield, abc7 news. we have dramatic video to share with you. a truck and shipping container caught fire at the port of oakland overnight with this dramatic video you can see here. flames engulfing the vehicle. it was parked inside a lot near middle harbor road. the driver was able to escape unharmed. oakland firefighters responded to the blaze quickly and

extinguished the fire. no one was hurt. the fire did not stop work at the port. no word on the cause of the fire. thanks. there's more fallout of the growing coronavirus outbreak. saudi arabia has banned citizens from traveling to china. it warns anyone who violates that won't be allowed back. two more planes carrying american evacuees from china will land in the u.s. today. they will arrive at military bases in nebraska and texas. all passengers will be quarantined for two weeks. at least 563 people have died from coronavirus in china. more than 28,000 are sick. a newborn in china is the youngest person to be infected. the infant tested positive just 30 hours after birth. the newborn's mom has coronavirus but it's not clear if the virus was passed on in the womb or after birth. in the u.s. there are 12 cases. one confirmed yesterday in wisconsin. this morning 178 americans are being quarantined at travis air force base after their plane from wuhan, china landed yesterday.

the cdc reports a child on the plane had a fever and was taken to hospital. the other passengers are staying at a hotel on the base. daisy roth shared these photos of her room. her husband said his wife and daughters were visiting family in wuhan. >> they arrived at the airport at 3:00 p.m. on tuesday, and they did not take off until more than 24 hours later. and that's an airport with no shops open. it was just waiting and getting their temperature taken. it was really exhausting for my wife and daughters. >> everyone in quarantine at travis will be continually screened for coronavirus. you can learn more about the symptoms of the coronavirus and how you can protect yourself by going to our website, abc7news.com. president trump addressing his impeachment acquittal at the national prayer breakfast at washington, d.c. and he's taking an apparent victory lap. here is the president coholdingp copies of "usa today" and the

"washington post" both featuring headlines of his acquittal. about 20 minutes ago we watched live as the president took the mic and slammed democrats for the impeachment proceedings. >> as everybody knows, my family, our great country, and your president have been put through a terrible ordeal by some very dishonest and corrupt people. >> the president will speak to the nation at 9:00 this morning from the white house. we'll bring you those remarks in an abc news special report. happening today, san francisco's public works boss, mohammed nuru will appear in court to face public corruption charges. he will appear with nick bovis who the feds also indicted for involvement in the schemes. according to the website mission local, fbi officials visited the planning department yesterday, and they were searching for files related to the 555 fulton street project. the u.s. attorney alleges that

the chinese billionaire behind the project wined and dined nuru in a pay for play scheme to win city approval for the project. jurors will hear more testimony today in the trial of the man accused of stabbing b.a.r.t. passenger nia wilson to death. the jury watched surveillance video yesterday and it shows a man who police say is the suspect, john cowell, stabbing wilson and her sister from behind. it happened at the macarthur b.a.r.t. station in july of 2018. wilson's mom was in court and said she couldn't bear to watch the video. >> they didn't do anything, any didn't see him or react to him. pure evil. >> wilson's sister survived the attack and at one point the judge kicked cowell out of the courtroom because of outbursts. he was eventually allowed to come back in. google will be allowed to take part in the san francisco pride parade. organizers last night decided not to move forward with the ban on the tech company. sf pride members held a nonbinding vote last month to restrict the tech titans participation.

some were upset over how google treated lbgtq employees. organizers rescinded the idea saying they spoke with google and they made some changes. >> everyone is saying we want to be in your parade. well, you need to hear what our community is saying about the organization and we're going to hold their feet to the fire. >> there were also calls to ban the alameda sheriff's department because of how it handled the eviction of moms for housing. the sf pride board president said that is not true and the department has actually never been a part of the parade. local scientists join the fight against coronavirus. the powerful technology they're using to unlock its secrets. and looking at the new york stock exchange, we're slightly up, up about 20 points. and turning your driver's license photo into an insta worthy pick. how are you going to do it, mike? >> just like that. >> you have to practice.

winter? that's pretty impressive but also shows how dry the ground and air is. so -- or ground and air are. east bay, 40s through 9:00. 60 to 64 during the afternoon hours. here's san francisco, we're at 48 at 9:00, near 60 for the warmest hour at 3:00, down to 53 at 7:00. a couple more days of warming coming up in the accuweather seven-day forecast. jobina? >> following a major crash in scotts valley, it's going to be a big slowdown for people moving through the santa cruz mountains involving four cars here. one person is trapped inside one of the vehicles. the crash is on the northbound and southbound side of 17 past vine hill road. all of the lanes in the southbound direction are shut down now. i was on the phone with the chp officer about this a few minutes ago, they are still working on updates to see how many lanes are blocked on the northbound side. expect delays in this area. moving up to the dumbarton bridge, westbound 84 at mid-span, a stalled car there.
