now from abc 7, live breaking news. >> that breaking news is at travis air force base. another evacuation flight from the coronavirus epicenter in china is landing there in hours. >> cornell bernard is live at the base with late details. cornell? >> reporter: yeah, dan and ama, officials from travis preparing for the arrival of a charter flight from wuhan, china, with evacuees on board. we are told it could arrive in the next three to four hours. the cdc says the flight from wuhan will touch down at travis and travelers will move to a take them to lackland air force base in texas. anyone showing signs of illness will be kept at travis. earlier tonight, health officials down at uc berkeley

held a public meeting about coronavirus. >> lots of people buying, wearing and hoarding masks. >> reporter: hundreds came to get the facts about coronavirus. health officials say there are no reported cases of the virus on campus. some students who have family in china are scared. >> they cannot drive cars on the road, everyone has to stay home. every two days you have a chance to go out and go to a grocery store. >> i'm concerned about basically how long this outbreak will last. stlz >> reporter: he says there are 12 confirmed cases in the u.s. two are in santa clara county, and two in san bonito county. >> every day brings more cases and deaths, particularly in china. >> reporter: next week, scientists at this lab in richmond will begin testing for the coronavirus with quick turn around time. right now testing on the federal

level takes about a week. >> it needs to be shipped to atlanta to be tested and the process can be sped up. >> reporter: yeah, that quick turn around time is essential with things like coronavirus when treating patients is so essential immediately. now, to recap, flights with evacuees from wuhan, china, scheduled to touch down here at travis within hours. another flight from china is headed to san diego after refuelling in vancouver, canada. >> cornell, thank you. 638 people have died worldwide from coronavirus. more than 31,000 people are infected. at least 215 of those infected are outside of china. tonight, china's president had a phone call with president trump about coronavirus. that's according to reuters. president xi jinping told president trump the chinese government has spared no effort in the fight to contain the

outbreak. a chinese doctor, who first warned of coronavirus, died today of the illness. many on chinese social media are describing him as a hero. demand japan, 41 new cases of coronavirus have been found on a cruise ship that's been quarantined there. that brings the total number of cases on board to 61. about 3700 people are on the diamond princess. as airlines started prestricting flights from mainland china, demand for flights to the country from the u.s. was also falling. ticket refunds skyrocketed more than 500% the last week of january. now, the impact of the coronavirus outbreak is growing tonight here in the bay area. >> chris reyes talked to an immigration lawyer who was affected on a personal and professional level. >> we have a high level executive stuck in china. he cannot come back.

>> reporter: he's just one of a number of lawyers we spoke to with clients stuck in china due to the spread of coronavirus. and it's about to get worse. by february 16, all flights to china from sfo and san jose airport will be canceled when china's southern airlines stops its service. he says for his clients, this will be a problem. >> i have clients who only have 50% have h-1 visa. >> reporter: it's not just travelers feeling the effects of coronavirus. many parts in the bay area getting repeated warnings from their schools -- >> just make sure the classrooms are clean and being hyper vigilant. >> reporter: vigilance is obvious at this target store in san jose, where the shells were cleaned out of hand sanitizers. >> i have to cancel some meetings with family and

friends, because people are very cautious. >> reporter: chris reyes for "abc7 news." >> for more information on what you need to know about coronavirus, go to our website, abc7news.com. breaking news in san jose, neighbors say they heard an explosion before a home went up in flames tonight. >> all i heard was boom. i mean, it sounded like somebody drove a mack truck into my window in the front room. >> this was on north 18th street between jackson and east empire streets. the home was abandoned recently, but one person was seen running from it while it burned. that person was take on the a hospital. the cause of the fire is under investigation. the director of san francisco's public works and this restaurant owner appeared in federal court today on corruption charges. muhammad, what do you want to say to the people of san francisco in the charges are in connection with scheme to bribe a san francisco airport commissioner. two burglary suspects were arrested at the b.a.r.t. station thanks to a tip from a neighbor.

a resident had spotted a group of men inkyard and reported it to police. one of the two arrested was also wanted for robbery in fremont. police are still looking for two other suspects. the sheriff's office said it was a dog that killed pet chickens. investigators say someone vandalized the school and left a coop open. the humane society determined it was killed by a dog. these stories and other headlines are on our abc 7 news app. new developments. on the eve of tomorrow's debate in new hampshire, bernie sanders is declaring a win in the iowa caucuses. but with 100% of the precincts reporting, mayor pete buttigieg and bernie sanders are in a near tie. this is the stage that they will converge on tomorrow night for the next debate hosted by abc news. abc news reporter trevor alt has

in oakland, works crews loaded items into a dump truck as they cleared people out of a camp. the catch was on 35th street at peralta. it's up clear if they were provided with resources on where to go instead. a stretch of road in fremont once packed with rvs is now packed with bolders. crews began phase one of the city's attempt to stop rvs from parking there. officials have had complaints about debris and trash. several businesses are located there including tesla. homelessness isn't the only issue facing people here. we want to hear your ideas about build a better bay area. a date has been set to celebrate the live of kobe bryant, his daughter and the seven others killed in last month's helicopter tragedy. it will be held monday, february 24th, at the staple center in

it was friday today. wishful thinking. let me show you the forecast for the red carpet on oscar sunday. there is a chance of showers in los angeles. 63 degrees. at least somebody is getting rain here. live doppler 7 showing you fog. it's crept up along the coast, so watch out for it tomorrow morning. i want to fast forward to sunday, because we are expecting showers in southern california. sierra, there's possibility of snow, and it should go -- fast forward to valentine's day, because valentine's day we're going to see a system dropping in. and this one looks like it may produce some rain for the bay area. valentine's evening going into that weekend. this is not definitive. it's still days away. but it is encouraging to see this model run continuing to show the possibility of some wet weather. not an atmospheric river, but wet weather possible next week. if you're going to tahoe, sunny day, 50 degrees.
