this morning, but we do want to start with our top story, the democrats debating just days before the new hampshire primary and it happened right here on abc. abc's rachel scott is live in manchester with more on that. rachel, good morning. >> reporter: dan, good morning and the pressure was on. we are now just three days away from the new hampshire primary. and thisisisisisisisisisisisisi make theiritch, and theyeyame ouswinging. piling on thattacks on mayay peteuttigieg and s sator bern sanders, the e o candndates that pulled ahead of the pack in the iowa caucuses. mayor pete buttigieg has branded himself as the fresh face that he believes washington needs but his rivals have called his experience into question saying his resume is too thin to take the white house. on that stage was a battle over electability and a fight over the future of the democratic party. the battle lines over health care were sharp. senator sanders defending his signature plan for medicare for all and former vice president joe biden trying to tone down expectations ahead of this

dr. jen ashton joining us from newton, massachusetts, jen, good morning again. so this is a really interesting study. tell us more about it. >> yeah, i found it incredibly interesting as i know you did. this was a study done by the society of endocrinology done in mexico. they looked at a group of teenagers, 11 to 14 years of age and preteens who had both anxiety and obesity. they divided them into two groups. one group just got nutritional counseling to help them lose weight. the other group got nutritional counseling and mindfulness coaching. that group actually had a reduction in their body mass index, so they lost weight. >> the theory as to why this kind of mindfulness training -- i assume it was maybe some seated meditation -- why would this work? >> well, they're not sure, and it definitely needs more research, but what we know from the body of research about mindfulness in general, it lowers stress hormones so things like cortisol, that in turn then can have a very significant effect on the hormones that

control our appetite like leptin and ghrelin and that then in turn potentially can have an effect on body weight and eating behaviors so while it definitely needs more research, it is thought-provoking to be sure. >> absolutely. so we should tell people, you're a nutritionist. you also have a lot of teenage patients. >> right. >> in your medical practice what is your advice to parents or teenagers who may be struggling with body weight issues and/or anxiety? >> exactly. it's body weight, it's eating disorders. it's anxiety. i think the key here, dan, think holistically. that doesn't mean swinging a crystal over your head. that means connecting the dots between the mind and body connection. you can't have a healthy body without a healthy mind and vice versa. for teenagers with obesity or overweight or any eating disorder, i think we need to fill the boat and help them with mental health professionals, with nutritionists and physicians and really connect those dots. >> surrounding it is so important.

also remember that on friday, saturdays and mondays are the busiest travel times of the week. so they're going to be the most expensive. >> you get deals on the other days is what you're saying. >> you can get deals on the other days. >> for example, i looked up a flight from new york to miami on thursday, march 26th with a return on sunday, march 29th and it was $469. simply by switching a tuesday to a saturday, the airfare dropped to $194. >> everybody loves miami. especially this time of year. let's talk about getting the biggest bang for your travel buck. >> right, so what you want to consider is bundling a package together. places like expedia, orbitz, travelocity, cheaptickets and apple vacations. i did a cost comparison and looked at a trip from chicago to maui, hawaii, and when i bundled it together, it was about $1,500

per person on apple vacation. if i did it separately, each airfare was around a thousand dollars and the hotel, the same exact hotel was $400 a night so significant savings when you bundle. even if you go and you have attractions, many of the places will bundle together your car, your hotel, your flight and tickets to the attraction. >> that's great. put it all together and hopefully get a deal out of it. okay, now sometimes you can find really good deals in unexpected places. tell us about that. >> well, we have memberships, a lot of us to those big box stores like sam's club and costco, and i buy my paper towels there and my toilet paper and my cereal. you can also be buying your travel. they've got big travel departments at places like costco and sam's club. also, you want to take advantage of perks that you might not realize you already have. if you're a member of aaa, there's discounts. if you're a member of your credit union, there might be a discount. credit cards give you perks that you're entitled to, things like upgrades to free rooms, free checked bags so look into all of those perks. >> there we go.

♪ back now with our road to the oscars. we are one day away from the most glamorous red carpet of the year. and to catch up on all the trends and look at looks this awards season have given us all the way from the dolby theatre is joe zee. thanks for being with us. let's start. >> good morning. >> what trends have you noticed making a big splash this awards season? >> well, i mean there seems to be this sort of weird archaic rule that you can't wear pink on the red carpet, but i have to say pink was probably one of the biggest trends we have seen coming out of awards season this year. different shades of pink. i mean we saw everyone from elisabeth moss, priyanka chopra with some great arm candy. just really incredible vibrant pink looks and i think you can pretty much say it defies the rule of not wearing pink on the carpet. >> of all the pink you've seen this season, what were the best

looks? >> well, i'll have to give a shoutout and honorable mention to, of course, lil nas x who showed up in the grammys in that custom versace looking so bright in that hot pink and, of course, i saw him last night actually at the tom ford fashion show wearing a hot pink leopard suit. it's his go to color but talking about tom ford i have to give my absolute favorite to zendaya. when she showed up in that breast plate, it was so out of this world. it was something different but it was just so, so sharp and i just love seeing people being experimental when it comes to red carpet dressing. >> any other hot trends you're keeping an eye on? >> yeah, i mean we have to say suits have been really big. you see the occasional tuxedo pop up in the past, but this year especially coming to s.a.g. awards and some of the grammys, just women in these power suits have looked fantastic. kate mckinnon, i mean, we have phoebe waller-bridge who has been so incredible this entire

awards season and really doing that strong power suit look in a very new way. >> of the power suit inspired looks that you have seen on the recent red carpets, which ones are your favorite? >> oh, you know, that i have to give to awkwafina. i really say this is, number one, her year, just doing phenomenal with her movie and won a lot of awards, the globes and everything but has been rocking that tuxedo and the suit in a way that is very much her own. i think for many years, so for now she's having her comeuppance and i have to say thumbs up to her. >> everyone loves awkwafina. also noticed a lot of white dresses have been popping up at the awards shows. >> yeah, you know what, white, people have tended to avoid in the past because it tends to be bridal or just doesn't feel quite as formal and glamorous but we've seen so much w450i9. shoutout to billy porter, of course, lizzo, dua lipa, reese witherspoon but i have to say my absolute favorite, of course, is reese's co-star on "the morning show," jennifer aniston, and the great thing about the dress she

wore at the s.a.g. is she pulled that dior by galliano dress out of her closet. she literally said, oh, i have this gown in the back of my closet. i love it. i think i'm just going to rewear it. how amazing is that? but, of course, i think that dress and that whole statement got overshadowed at the s.a.g. awards because of that viral photo between her and brad. this was a reunion that the whole world was looking for. it went around the world and in literally minutes and look at that. why would it not? can i also give a shoutout to the guys for a minute? you know, i think they always get the short end of the stick when it comes to red carpet dressing, but in the past year it's been so much about it and brad, i mean, of course, a front-runner today for best supporting actor has been looking so sharp across his entire award season and is old hollywood personified and i think he'll be great. >> shoutout to jen for wearing that dress in the back of her closet. i wish i had clothes like that in the back of my closet. thank you so much, joe. you can see the 92nd oscars this sunday at 8:00 p.m. eastern, 5:00 pacific right here on abc.
