now at 5:00, strong winds knocked down trees and power lines leading to power outages and a big cleanup today. mike says it is not over yet. he has our full forecast. good morning on this february 10th. >> we know a lot of you are wondering what you can expect with the winds today. mike has the answer. >> let's look at the wind advisory, this is what's left. it's mainly above 1,000 feet. it's the north bay mountains, east bay hills, the diablo range. all those areas in yellow where the winds today all the way through 11:00 tomorrow morning. we have more than 24 hours, about 30 hours worth of gusts. i think most of the trees that are going to come down have probably come down and most of the limbs, too, there's still

that outside chance that could happen. 51 in st. helena. 50 in diablo. 31 tamalpais. in the lower elevations, a little breeze looking from the exploratorium. here's your 12-hour planner, starting off from the 30s to 50s this morning. we'll be more homogenized this afternoon, mid to upper 60s with sunshine. jobina? >> good morning. we have our mass transit updates for you now. ferries are running with no delays. 11 trains for b.a.r.t., all on time. ace 1 is also on time. want to bring your attention to this, the b.a.r.t. service expansion begins today. earlier weekday service on some lines and two-line service into san francisco on sunday. the bottom line to all of this, check the schedule because there are changes and almost every line will be impacted in some way. live look at the bay bridge toll plaza, cash lanes are stacking up. live look at san francisco, 280 at king street, nice and empty

to begin the monday morning commute. new this morning, the highway patrol working to find out why a man was walking along a freeway before being hit and killed. this happened along northbound u.s. highway 101 in south san francisco. the victim died at the scene around 9:30 last night. drivers faced delays and at one point the chp closed all the lanes on northbound 101. those lanes reopened just before midnight. the san mateo county coroner has not released the man's name. we're still dealing with high winds this morning. it was a wild sunday for a lot of you. this video is from castro valley. one of the many communities that saw power outages. >> liz kreutz joins us live from there with how it looks now. good morning. >> good morning. crews are working right now to clean up the mess caused by those winds. i want to show you behind me now, you can see these crews here on helen street and higher avenue, a portion of higher

avenue is still closed off as these crews work to restore power for people in the neighborhood. winds caused a massive 15-foot tree to collapse on to the road as well as nine power lines yesterday afternoon. that forced 12 homes o evacuate. >> we're concerned with homes adjacent to the fallen eucalyptus, there are still several 100-foot tall trees to the rear of the structure. >> the wind picked up. it was scary how fast the wind picked up. >> reporter: as winds picked up, another tree fell and damaged a water pipe on higher avenue. alameda county said they had 20 calls backlogged at one point. some power is back on, but higher avenue is still in the

dafshg f dark for some parets. more winds are on the way again today. live in castro valley, liz kreutz, abc7 news. thousands of bay area residents have no electricity because of the high winds knocking out power lines. here's a look at pg&e's website that shows the outages. right now, 26,000 homes and businesses do not have power. the east bay is the hardest hit area with more than 20,000 customers in the dark. pg&e outages peaked yesterday at 300,000. airline travelers may once again experience delays because of the high winds, especially at sfo. drivers encountered a rare sight flights landing over highway 101 in millbrae. be winds forced a different approach. about 40% of sfo's flights were delayed or canceled yesterday. you can track the weather right from your phone any time, download our free abc7 news app,

click on the weather tab at the bottom to get the latest information. we're following breaking news a huge fire in burning in oakland. amy hollyfield just got to the scene. good morning, amy. >> good morning. look behind me at the intense scene here. so many firefighters here responding to this house fire. we just arrived on the scene. the battalion chief is in the house now and is headed out to come and brief us within the next few minutes. in fact, i think i see her right there. i will go hunt her down and get more information for you, but i do see firefighters on the roof right now, working hard, it looks like, to open that roof up so they can let the smoke out. i don't see flames right now, just a lot of smoke. so it looks like they have this somewhat under control. i did ask one firefighter, i said is everybody okay? he said yes.

i will get more details on this fire in malta, close to 98th avenue in oakland. close to the san leandro border. big response here, possibly because of the houses being close together here, families asleep at this hour. but so many fire trucks filling the streets here in the area and firefighters, you see, working hard on the roof there. again, i will try to get briefed right now, get more details for you. stay with us as we cover this breaking news. reporting live in oakland, amy hollyfield, abc7 news >> thanks. we'll check in with you in a few minutes. this morning there are new cases of the coronavirus among the thousands of passengers quarantined on a cruise ship in japan. about 66 more people on the diamond princess cruise have tested positive. so that brings the total to 1136 including at least 23 americans. overnight "gma" spoke with one of the passengers who contracted

the virus. rebecca frazier is in a hospital on shore. >> i doesn't even feel like a cold to be honest. i would have not known anything was wrong with me if they had not tested me. >> coming up on "gma," maggie ruhle will be live in yokohama japan where that cruise ship is docked. a public memorial service will be held for three victims killed alongside kobe bryant in that helicopter crash last month. john, kerry and alyssa altobelli were headed to a tournament at the mamba sports academy when their helicopter crashed into the side of a hill. the service will be head at ainheld at angels stadium in anaheim. ♪ yesterday, suddenly >> the academy paid tribute to the late basketball legend, kobe bryant, at last night's oscars.

if you're just joining us, here's the 7 things to know this morning. number one, breaking news in oakland. firefighters are battling flames inside this house burning at malta court south of the coliseum come flex. amy hollyfield is there. she will bring us an update in a few minutes. number two is weather. it's good news. the worst of the winds are behind us, at least where most of us live. in the north bay mountains, east bay hills and the diablo range we have the possibility of damaging winds through 11:00 tomorrow morning. number three, gusty winds could bring more damage today. gusts toppled power lines yesterday in the east bay and north bay triggering outages for tens of thousands of people. number four, today b.a.r.t. will officially launch its new ambassador program in response to concerns about passenger safety. ten unarmed uniformed workers will walk the trains between 2:00 p.m. and midnight. the big winner of the oscars

was a south korean film, "parasite," which won four awards including best picture. this is the first time in oscar history an international film snagged top honors. number six, the chp issued a high wind advisory for the altamont pass. this will impact our super commuters. speeds are around 17 and 16 miles per hour getting out of tracy. number seven, the 144th annual westminster kennel club dog show continues today with more than 200 breeds competing for some of the top prizes. today's competition features best of breed and group judging ahead of best in show award tomorrow. the president is set town veil his budget for the 2021 fiscal year today. the 4$4.8 trillion budget would increase military spending by 0.3% and cut nondefense spending by 5%. >> president trump will also be traveling to new hampshire today. he is holding a keep america great rally in manchester on the eve of the state's democratic primary. of course this comes as

democratic presidential candidates continue to crisscross that state. they're vying for votes ahead of tomorrow's high stakes new hampshire primary. new state polls show bernie sanders topping the field with former south bend mayor pete buttigieg surging after a strong performance in iowa. former vice president joe biden has taken aim at the front-runners as questions mount over his campaign's viability after a fourth place finish in iowa. massachusetts senator elizabeth warren finished third in iowa, dropping in the polls. now aiming to break from the middle of the pack. >> i didn't start by doing polls a year ago. i still don't do polls. for me it's about having a chance to get out and talk to people. >> amy cloebklobuchar is gettin boost raising $2 million since friday's debate. >> bernie sanders campaign plans to ask for a partial recanvas of last week's iowa caucuses.

pete buttigieg led sanders by two stateequivalent out of 2,000 counted. the associated press says it is still able to declare a winner because it believes the results may not be fully accurate and may be subject to potential revisions. heavy rain in hollywood just in time for the oscars. >> crews worked to try to protect the red >> my gosh. you can see here, there was so much water on the tarps above the red carpet that the workers had to push it off. the storm moved in as the red carpet was opening. >> that is terrible timing. >> right? >> as far as i could tell, brad pitt did not get wet. all is well. >> everybody still looked great. >> every hair in place. >> maybe next year they'll invest in plexiglass, that might be better at keeping the wet

weather away from the folks. let's look at san jose, 87 looking north towards mineta san jose international. winds are much lighter. confined to the hills today. every once in a while they'll step out of the hills into the valleys. it's not sustained event. it won't be close to being as windy as it was yesterday. it will be milder today. if you had to be outside yesterday in that, it was kind of biting. high temperatures taper later this week. another extended period without rain due to an area of high pressure to our west. look at it going all the way up, the jet stream going up to the arctic circle and diving down to the south. my parents had two inches of snow in atlanta over the weekend. that's how cold it was. >> that doesn't look right. not sure what happened there. mid 60s in san francisco to near 70 in the inland neighborhoods. average highs this time of the

here's a look at walnut creek. looking south towards 680. when you head through the east bay hills, maybe a bit of a breeze there. 6 degrees warmer than average in san francisco, 11 in santa rosa. 66 to 71 degrees. this area of high pressure dominating our forecast. once again, we go through the next nine days with just a chance of some light rain, it's not going to be widespread. the heaviest rain in the mid south with 6 to 8 inches. like the flooding we had in alabama, south carolina and georgia, we could have it here this week. in today's "gma" first look, abc's laura spencer goes back

that's exciting. the bay area is not the only place that is experiencing strong winds. >> powerful gusts over the atlantic helped a british airways flight set a new record for the fastest tri tri tri tri london and new york. it completed the trip in 4 and 56 minutes. it usually takes 6 hours. the concord used to complete the same journey in 3 hours. it stopped flying in 2003. >> i read on the way back, it was two hours longer. >> that would be scary, wouldn't it? are we going kind of fast? >> take me on. >> speaking of records, there's a new world record for largest aerial fireworks. >> it was launched over a colorado ski resort town. the fireworks over steam boat springs weighed nearly 2,800

bernard dry and malta court. amy hollyfield is joining us live with more. good morning. >> this fire was so large they were worried it would spread to other homes so they called for backup quickly. they had about 36 firefighters here on the scene. so this street is packed with fire trucks. it did burn one home and they said that fire burned the eves of the house next door but they stopped it from doing damage. they evacuated a family from the second home. they say the house is okay, they'll let them return to their house. this first home, however, a lot of damage. one person was hurt. the fire chief chtells us two people lives here. we just talked to a man who said he lives here, and he said four people call this house home. he says they were painting and

some plastic they were using caught fire -- it was on the heater, and that caught fire. so that's what he's saying has caused it. firefighters still investigating saying it's too early to determine the cause. they do have one patient that they took to the hospital. it looks like the fire is out. we don't see flames, we don't see smoke. they're not calling it under control yet. they're wanting to be cautious and making sure that this fire is out. heavy presence on this scene. they say they don't know how long they'll be here. reporting live in oakland, amy hollyfield, abc7 news. >> thank you. new overnight, two people are recovering after being shot in hayward. alameda county sheriffs deputies believe the two people knew each other and it appears they shot one another during some sort of dispute. the situation unfolded inside a home at medford and standish avenues around 10:30 last night.

earlier mike was telling us about winds we experienced over the weekend and we could be in for more today. >> it appears the force of yesterday's wind shattered a window on the 41st floor of the millennium tower. thankfully nobody was hurt. one of the residents described what he saw from his window on the 22nd floor. >> shards of glass falling out of the sky. i was like, i'm pretty sure that's coming from our building or something just hit us. i looked down at the park and i see a bunch of kids running away from the area. >> wow. oakland firefighters shared this video, it shows an electrical transformer popping because of the high winds. the oakland fire department responded to more than a dozen calls dealing with downed trees. at the live desk, i'm tracking the power outages pg&e crews have been working to restore all night. the winds knocked down power lines and utility poles around the bay area. this pole came down in downtown

sonoma. at one point more than 300,000 pg&e customers lost power. currently 9,200 people are without power, down from 26,000 in the last hour. the biggest impact is in the east bay. check out the orange. this is in the san leandro area. 44 people affected here and some other places there were around 500 customers impacted. green means an outage affecting less than 50 people, red more than 5,000. as you can see from the map, customers experiencing the most of this are in the oakland east bay hills area. not all of these outages were necessarily caused by weather. now to the oscars. "parasite" won four oscars and made history by becoming the first non-english language film to win the award for best picture. >> dion lim is live from the

dolby theater in hollywood. good morning. >> hi there. hard to believe just five hours ago i was standing in this spot watching celebrities stream out of the dolby theater and the governor's ball and quite a change to this morning. check it out. as we speak, it doesn't get better than this for live tv. the crews are rolling up the red carpet as we speak. they've been working throughout the night to break these sets down. let's talk about what happened inside. the big star of the night, as you mentioned, the south korean stunner, "parasite." the thriller dominated at the oscars winning best screen play, director, foreign film and best picture. in this is the first time an international film won best picture but it's not the only reason why the move i haie was history. director bong joon ho gave a heart felt speech saying he wanted to cut up the academy award with a texas chainsaw and

antioch, brentwood, 51 degrees. concord and pleasant hill at 41. 54 in concord. 39 in mountain view. no wind there. 51 at san jose, a touch of a breeze. same thing at napa, 50. 39 in santa rosa. here's what's going on. looking at the san mateo bridge, things are much lighter this morning. just a few breezy spots heading through the morning commute. mass transit is good, the bay commute will be good. no fog out there. can't be, not with these breezes. we go from 50 this morning, north bay valleys to upper 60s at noon, near 71 at 3:00. now 59 at 7:00. east bay, looking at 45, feeling 45, i should say. looking at sunshine at 9:00, 53. look at these mid to upper 60s from lunch through about 5:00. for san francisco, 59 through 11:00, then low to mid 60s for lunch through about 6:00. a cooler night on the way for all of us. we'll take a look at even warmer

reporting a rise in new coronavirus cases. this as japan reports dozens of new cases on board a quarantined quuz according to the chinese government, deaths on the mainland rose by 97 in the last 24 hours. now the number is 908. over 3,000 new cases were reported bringing the total to over 40,000 in china alone. japan's health ministry says 66 more people on a quarantined cruise ship tested positive. that brings that total to 136. >> wuhan is ground zero for the coronavirus outbreak. that city is under quarantine and many say it is like living in a ghost town. doug peres moved to wuhan two years ago to teach english, math and science. he said because of the outbreak he and his girlfriend rarely go outside, when they do the city looks and feels totally different. errands like going to the grocery store have completely changed. >> we avoid everyone. we have a whole procedure, wear a mask, gloves, goggles when they arrive, and when we come
