elizabeth warren, joe biden and tom steyer. >> all other candidates got 3% or less. entrepreneur andrew yang and colorado senator michael bennett both dropped out of the race tonight after getting low numbers in both iowa and new hampshire. >> the latest now from manchester. >> reporter: a big night and a big win for bernie sanders. the vermont senator claiming the top spot in the new hampshire primary. >> it's onto the battle. it's onto south carolina. it's onto win the democratic nomnagds. >> reporter: but unlike his 2016 victy in the granite state this time sanders barely edging out former mayor pete buttigieg who felt a boost from his strong showing in iowa. >> so many of you decided that a middle class mayor and a veteran from the industrial midwest was the right choice to take on this president. >> reporter: and amy klobuchar's plain talk message clearly resonating with voters. the senator coming in third after gaining a surge of momentum in recent days.

president. a total of 19 democrats have dropped out of the race. for more on the candidates check out our new series "chasing california." you can find full episodes on abc7news.com, on the abc 7 news app, on youtube and amazon fire as well. all very much worth your time. new details tonight about a brazen ronry in broad daylight. an oakland man was held at gunpoint while cleaning out his car. >> terrifying really. abc 7 reporter kate larson spoke with the man tonight and what neighbors are doing to try to keep that neighborhood safe. >> reporter: two men run up behind the victim, grab him, scuffle and then put a gun to the back of his head. the suspects force him to ground and pat down his body before walking away. you can see the gun in the robber's hand clear as the day it light. the victim told me he didn't want to go on camera for fear of retaliation but told me the suspect stole his phone and

necklace and bracelet all worth about $5,000. after the suspects leave, the victim sits up, turns off the vacuum he was cleaning his car with and hurries inside. freddy rojas asked we blur his face. he lives in the same building as his nephew and installed the ring camera that captured the brazen crime. >> it can be any person, happen to any person right here. >> reporter: but what rojas and his neighbors want criminals to know if they're on camera. >> now i think we're going to deploy a much larger network of cameras here. >> reporter: his cameras caught what neighbors believe is the suspect's white sedan moments before it stopped down the street before the robbery. >> this is the worst thing that's happened probably in ten years. hopefully it'll work for deterrence value first and foremost and should there be a problem we'll have a record of

it. >> reporter: the oakland pd robbers unit is investigating the incident. this is the photo that's gone viral. nearly 200 evacuees in china quar teened for two weeks have been released. some in the group through their face masks in the air like graduation caps today. a palo alto woman and her daughter were among those housed. amanda the pair are on their way home? >> reporter: yeah, they're just a few hours away from home at this point, ama. we know the keyword in all of this cleared, including her 15-year-old daughter. this is the moment she and her 15-year-old daughter have been waiting for, release from federal quarantine. both were visiting family from

wuhan china when the coronavirus hit. they were evacuating. after 14 days under quarantine she spoke to us on face time her husband in the drivers seat. >> she's right here. >> reporter: the first sight of family in more than six weeks. back in the south bay the two other kids ready to see their mom and sister. >> tonight is the night i'm going to cry out of joy. >> reporter: they've spent the last few weeks with the family and members took the opportunity to help. >> then they called us asking to keep them for two more weeks. whatever you say. >> reporter: she says there's no coronavirus concern when it comes to her. but health officials are calling on the u.s. to recognize the 195 cleared quarantine members back into their communities. >> i don't want somebody to be attacked or ostracized or outed for having been part of this

quarantine. >> reporter: she's said she's come across several posts with concerns. she says she's looking forward to taking some time off and spending that time with her family. she said she does not want this to be a negative experience with her children. amanda del castillo, abc 7 news. the number of dead from the coronavirus shot up again sadly. it's now at 1,115 worldwide. more than 45,000 people are infected with this new disease, but the pace of new cases appears to be slowing. there are 13 confirmed coronavirus cases in the united states. this deadly disease officialsy has a name tonight. it's being called covid 19 for the world health organization. 39 more cases are being reported on a cruise ship nor yokohama,

japan, bringing the total now to 174. among those infected was a japanese official who took part in the first quarantine checks. at least 23 americans have become ill. the u.s. postal service says the suspension of flights because of the outbreak is disrupting mail service. it can no longer quarantine timely deliver of mail and packages to china, hong kong and macao. new developments with the camp fire. the number of dead is likely much higher than originally reported. that's according to doctors and other experts. the official death count lists 86 people killed in the 2018 wildfire that burned through paradise and bute county. but an investigation by the chico enterprise record found that it deaths of 50 more people many ill or elderly were linked to the fire but not attributed to it. moving on, new details in

landlord has been unresponsive to their needs while raising the rent. so abc 7 news reporter cornell bernard explains they're taking drastic action. >> reporter: francisco perez shows us his fruit filled apartment where he's lived for 20 years now falling apart. rotted wood, broken drawers. neighbors showed us their units, this one with dirty carpet and mold in the bathroom. they say the landlord has been unwilling to make repairs but has increased the rent. >> we had to do something but what? >> reporter: since last november 7 out of 14 tenants have been on a rent strike. they say they won't pay until the landlord agrees to negotiate a deal allowing them to take over. >> let us buy the building so we don't have to travel with this kind of stuff next year. >> reporter: non-profit oakland community land trust is assisting and willing to pay fair market value for the property. pthe landlord has agreed to a
