say that president trump's tweets are making his job harder especially since this case is still pending. in an exclusive interview attorney general william barr telling abc the president never told him to go easy on longtime friend and confidant roger stone. >> did you talk to the president at all about your decision regarding your recommendations? >> never. >> reporter: stone was convicted last year for witness tampering, lying to congress and obstructing a congressional investigation into russian election interference in the 2016 election. prosecutors originally recommended stone spend up to nine years in prison until barr overruled right around the same time the president called it a, quote, miscarriage of justice on twitter. >> i had made a decision that i thought was fair and reasonable in this particular case, and once the tweet occurred the question is, well, now what do i do? >> reporter: four prosecutors quit the case in protest. barr now saying the president

shouldn't interfere in the doj. >> how would you describe your relationship with the president in general terms? i know you don't talk specifics but in general terms how is the relationship? >> i think our relationship is good. i support his program. i think he's doing great things for the country. i feel that, you know, he's faced a lot of resistance, and he still is able to accomplish a lot of good things, and we have a good working relationship. >> reporter: and in a rare move the chief judge presiding over the case issued a statement that reads in part, the judges of this court base their sentencing decisions on careful consideration of the actual record. public criticism or pressure is not a factor. democrats responding in force. >> the attorney general has stooped to such levels. what a sad disappointment to our country. >> reporter: and the white house issued a statement saying in part that the president wasn't bothered by barr's comments adding that the president has the right to express his opinion publicly just like any other american citizen.

kenneth, kimberly. >> we will see if there is any more fallout from this. andrew dymburt, thank you. breaking overnight china breaking overnight china has revealed more than 1,700 medical workers have been infected with the new coronavirus. at least six have died. the government is expanding a mass roundup of people who may be infected. today china reported 121 new deaths. officials say new cases have been dropping for ten consecutive days. that's if you exclude the area where the outbreak was first reported. in japan some passengers stuck on a quarantined cruise ship are finally going onshore today but they'll remain in quarantine for six more days. the case of a south carolina girl missing since monday is now a homicide investigation. police say they found the body of 6-year-old faye swetlik not far from her home. a school bus security camera showed her coming home from school just before she vanished. within hours police launched a massive search. the town's head of public safety

got emotional while announcing the heartbreaking update thursday. >> it is with extremely heavy hearts that we are announcing that we have found the body that the coroner has identified as faye marie swetlik. >> investigators provided no details about her death only saying that there is no danger to the public. we turn now to the war of words between president trump and michael bloomberg. >> it's getting personal between the two billionaires and bloomberg took his fight to the stage in texas last night. the biggest endorsement yet for former new york mayor michael bloomberg. >> michael bloomberg. >> reporter: picking up support from the mayor of houston while escalating his feud with president trump. >> and it reminds me of sam rayburn saying that you might know any jackass can kick down a barn, but it takes a good carpenter to build one. >> reporter: the all day back and forth between the billionaires started thursday when president trump tweeted,

mini mike bloomberg is a loser who has money but can't debate and has zero presence. bloomberg fired back taunting trump. we know many of the same people in ny. behind your back they laugh at you and call you a carnival barking clown. >> let me say this, mr. president, you can't bully me, and i won't let you bully the american people. >> reporter: the president then went after bloomberg for his controversial stop and frisk policy as mayor making this exaggerated claim. >> bloomberg came in and he said, well, you know what, this thing is so good, i'm going to stop every black person and if you were a black person in new york, you were stopped two times a day, three times a day. you couldn't go to your house they were stopping you every day. >> reporter: but trump himself has long promoted stop and frisk as a tremendous success. >> stop and frisk had a tremendous impact on the safety of new york city. tremendous beyond belief. >> reporter: under the policy more than 500,000 a year most of them black and latinos were stopped and frisked by police, 88% of the time police found no reason to arrest them. bloomberg defended the policy

even after a judge called it unconstitutional in 2013. last night in houston, bloomberg apologized for the policy again while launching his mike for black america tour. >> i defended it looking back for too long because i didn't understand then the unintended pain it was causing to young black and brown families and their kids. >> i believe i'm going to beat trump. i believe i'm the person to get the nomination. >> reporter: in the meantime, former vice president joe biden and his wife jill appeared on "the view" as his team makes a big bet on the future of his campaign. after his poor showing in iowa and new hampshire, the biden campaign is moving dozens of staffers out of super tuesday states and into nevada and south carolina where for the first time in this election cycle minority voters will play a major role. >> 99% of the african-american vote hadn't voted yet and 99% of the hispanic vote hadn't voted yet. >> biden said he thinks he can win south carolina handedly and predicting a second place in nevada one week from tomorrow.

in a scary scene at the atlanta airport two were injured when the ceiling collapsed at a restaurant in the airport. officials say it was part of a dropped ceiling and may have been installed incorrectly. turning to the weather, this morning is expected to be the coldest morning of the season from minneapolis to chicago. and that cold is moving east. let's take a look now at your friday forecast. >> good morning. the talk of town being these frigid temperatures, not only widespread subzero but real fee temperatures to get us out the door. once out the door, we're finding very little relief. widespread teens to the 20s and a major temperature drop in the southern part of the country in the wake of that departing cold front. if you remember the other day the atlanta area highs in the 60s now with highs in the 50s.

said prosecutors wrote a script creating a scenario that strips adult women of their common sense telling the jury in their universe women are not responsible for the parties they attend, the men they flirt with, the hotel room invitations, the plane tickets they expect, the jobs they hope to obtain. weinstein's lawyer reminding jurors of email written between weinstein and the two main accusers requesting professional support. rotunno added being a sex addict and being a rapist are two different things. he is on trial for allegedly raping a woman in 2013 and assaulting another in 2006. additional accusers testified to bolster the prosecution's argument that weinstein used similar tactics to victimize women over many years. other accusers like actress rosanna arquette protested. >> time's up on the pervasive culture of silence that has enabled abusers like weinstein. >> reporter: the prosecution's closing arguments are expected today. jury deliberations next week. a zookeeper in kansas is describing the moment she was

anser hassan is live in union city with what we're expected to learn. >> good morning. in a few hours union city police will be joined by the mayor and california state attorney general in an announcement that mave the suspects and the evidence seized. this happened back in november. november 23rd, the early morning hours, two boys, one aged 11, the other 14, were gunned down as they sat in a parked minivan in the parking lot of the elementary school. there's still a lot of unanswered questions such as why the two boys were at the school at that time of night and who drove the van to the school. police believe two suspects are involved in the shooting. this is based on 1isurveillance video from a nearby home. in january a $10,000 reward was offered for information in the case. union city police say they have spent countless hours and resources on this investigation hope doing what they say will bring justice to the families and closure to the community. this press conference will be
