bay bridge toll plaza, very light right now. no delays at all. no metering lights. they haven't even been turned on before the thee-thee-thee-thee-- weekend. >> thanks. new overnight in the south bay, san jose police are investigating after a crash when a car plowed through a fence and into somebody's yard. it happened on carl street near sullivan avenue. a parked truck was also hit. there's no word on what caused the driver to lose control or if there are possible injuries. the driver was seen speaking to police and taking a field sobriety test. new developments in the coronavirus outbreak. more than 64,000 people have gotten sick worldwide. the death toll is close to 1,400. earlier today officials in japan said four more people tested positive for the virus. one of them is a taxi driver who had given rides to passengers who were on board the diamond princess cruise ship. more than 200 people on that ship are sick. a pacifica woman quarantined

address the concerns of the lbgtq community and people of color they say these groups suffer the most from gentrification and the housing crisis and that buttigieg should take time to listen to them, not just wealthy donors. protesters will rally outside one of today's fund-raisers. senator bernie sanders wants you to cast your votes now. the presidential candidate will hold a get out the early vote rally in richmond on monday. campaign volunteers will collect vote by mail ballots during the rally and turn them in. the primary election date is march 3rd. california voters can make last-minute changes to their voter registration without it affecting their ballots. voters are now allowed to change parties and update their address through election day without re-registering to vote. the new law goes into effect immediately. the law previously set the deadline two weeks before election day. voers who make last-minute changes had to cast provisional ballots which are counted after election officials confirm their registration status. let's get back to valentine's day and it is super

anniversary, two years since the shooting in parkland, florida. it's the deadliest school shooting in american history. today the community will come together with a moment of silence to honor the 17 victims at marjorie stowman douglas dous school. the city of parkland and other organizations in and around parkland will host events focused on healing and service. more than 90 bay area schools will take part in no one eats alone day. the annual initiative encourages students to socialize and make new friends at lunch. the idea is to join classmates they don't know and to spot students sitting alone to get to know them. the program was created by a bay area non-profit called beyond differences to fight social isolation and make schools more inclusive for everyone all year long.

reggie, kumasi? >> all right. thank you. the chp's investigating a deadly crash in san jose. this is on northbound 87 near the transition to northbound 280. this morning officers had to close the transition on-ramp to investigate. it has since reopened. they have not said yet what caused that crash. happening today, we're expected to get new information from police in union city about a double homicide that rattled that community. two young boys ages 11 and 14 were shot and killed in the parking lot of searles elementary school in mid-november. anser hassan is live at union city city hall with what we're expected to learn. >> good morning. in a few hours union city police will be joined by the mayor and california state attorney general with an update in this investigation which could include new information about the suspect ts and the evidence they found.

thisack on the morning of november 23rd. the two boys, ages 11 and 14, were gunned down as they sat in a parked minivan in the parking lot of the searles elementary school. there's still a lot of unanswered questions such as why the two boys were at the school at that time of night and who drove the van to the school. police believe two suspects are involved in the shooting. this is based on surveillance video from a nearby home. in january a $10,000 reward was offered for information in the case. union city police say they have spent countless hours and resources on this investigation hoping to do what they say will bring justice to the families and closure to the community. this press conference will be held at 10:30. reporting live, anser hassan, abc7 news. >> thank you. a new development in an attack on a b.a.r.t. passenger by a stranger. they have suspect in custody.

oakland chp detained the man yesterday for an unrelated crime. they determined he was the person in surveillance images released earlier by b.a.r.t. police. the attack happened tuesday evening as the train approached the lake merritt station. police say that the suspect punched a man in the face and hit him with a chain. the victim was treated at the hospital for nonlife threatening injuries. developing safe efficient mass transit is a key part of building a better bay area, today b.a.r.t. directors will hold a second day of meetings to discuss the problems facing the transit agency. one of the biggest ones is a drop in night and weekend ridership. competition with rideshare companies like uber and lyft is one contributing factor but a b.a.r.t. survey of riders found many people are not going out as much on weekends and they didn't like the long wait between trains. b.a.r.t. is exploring ways to get those riders back. >> one thing we've been doing is handing out free passes for the weekend. and we've been looking at it, people are using it. it doesn't cost us that much because a lot of the people are

bringing friends who are paying. >> b.a.r.t. already gives out 500,000 free weekend tickets a year, one proposal is to double that number to 1 million. tell us what you think about b.a.r.t., what your experiences are, use #dearbart with your stories on twitter and facebook. a new development in a hit and run crash in san francisco's mission district. police have now arrested the driver. he's 62-year-old stefan kernan. he's charged with hit and run and running a red light. three pedestrians were hurt in wednesday afternoon's crash at 23rd and mission streets. two of them are still in critical condition. police say that dui is not a factor in the crash. four people arrested in the west oakland moms for housing eviction in january will not face charges. this is according to the alameda county district attorney's office. the four were taken into custody by sheriffs deputies during the eviction. a lawyer for the four told the

east bay times the d.a. did not want to make this a big political issue. the lack of affordable housing has been a big part of our building a better bay area coverage. in the north bay officials are putting together a plan to deal with dozens of anchor-outs, people living on boats in the middle of richardson bay, sometimes illegally. neighbors in belvedere and other nearby communities say they're frustrated. the richardson bay held from both sides. anchor-outs say there's a big shortage of berths at marinas. >> there seems to be an attitude about anchor-outs and that actually for the bulk of people i met it's a choice, it's a way of life. >> the agency says everything is on the table from finding anchor outs alternate housing to establishing a formal mooring program. >> from dirty streets to crime to affordable housing, a lot needs to be addressed when it comes to building a better bay area, so what are your thoughts? share them by joining our better
