>> new at 6:00, a house fire on belmont court and pleasant hill put up heffy smoke that could be seen across the bay in san francisco and morin county. the hope which was under construction and unoccupied was destroyed by the flames. the fire was knocked down about an hour later, no one was hurt. >> what we'll are under arrest. leslie brink lives us live from dublin where one of the suspects appeared in court today. >> reporter: that's right. the next court day will be february 20th. we have two suspects arrested with what police say are gang ties they still have not been able to really spell out what the motive was for killing these two young boys but they are piecing more evidence together. they say there could be more

arrests in this disturbing story. >> 18-year-old jason from caster valley and a 17-year-old juvenile from hayward have both been arrested and charged with the murders. >> union city police say 11-year-old kevin hernandez drove his mom's van to the elementary school parking lot on november 23rd. 14-year-old sean worthington was with him. at 1:34 a.m. the boys were attacked. the boys died. three months of investigations led to six search warrants served last week that led to drug and weapons seizures. >> two handguns, three assault weapons and several high capacity magazines. >> reporter: they provided evidence for the arrests in the double murder. they were charged on thursday. >> the complaint also alleges a gang enhancement in that these

killings were done with the benefit, direction and association of a criminal street gang. >> reporter: california's attorney general made the big announcement of the arrest paying tribute o the other agencies including chp, hayward and union city police, almeida county. >> it encourages people in our communities who probably know a little bit more and they may be afraid to tell to come forward. >> it's reassuring to know as a community all the different agencies involved came together to bring closure to these families. >> reporter: i asked the police why the 17-year-old and 18-year-old gang members would approach an 11-year-old and 14-year-old in a parking lot. they've not answered that question of motive but they're hoping as they talk to the suspects, comb through all this evidence and talk to more people

gigi in heaven, happy valentine's day, my babies. >> the spread of the corona virus appears to have slowed a bit today with over 2,200 new cases reported. 15 cases are in the united states. the latest is an evacuee air base in texas. today san diego county declared a local emergency and will help with financial aid. san diego county has two confirmed cases of coronavirus. >> today's -- it does signify another step in the county's ongoing efforts to best protect the public. >> earlier santa clara county declared a local emergency. two cases of the coronavirus have been reported there as well. it has led to the cancelling of a summit held next month march

9th through the 12th in san francisco. it made the decision because of the evolving public health risks related to coronavirus. the security conference is still on for this month. >> china continues to struggle to contain the coronavirus where the outbreak began. the longer that epidemic goes on the, the greater the frustration level among its citizens. a life long china scholar at stanford says that makes china's powerful president vulnerable to criticism. >> reporter: the growth and infections and deaths from coronavirus in china is putting more pressure than ever on president xi jinping. human dignity on occasion has been cast aside. >> at some point the chinese will say we're going backwards too far too fast. we need some alternatives.

over in the central valley. overnight lows will be mainly in the low to mid 40s, a little chilly in the north bay valley. tomorrow high clouds will probably linger over the north bay but the skies will be bright, sunnier in other parts of the bait area. highs will range from upper 50s at the coast, 60s to the bay shoreline and 70 inland. deeper into the weekend, we'll start our animation, 5 p.m. tomorrow we'll see rain and high-elevation snow over oregon and washington. early sunday morning some of that precipitation is moving down into the northern most part of california and we're not likely to see any of that rainfall reach the bay area. looks like it will start in the north before it moves out of here. sunday lingering high clouds with basically bright skies and rather nice weather, as a matter of fact. here's the seven-day forecast. it's going to get breezy and

san francisco international's airport new sky terrace is open, it's located at terminal 2 and cost about $6 million to build. you don't have to have a plane ticket to get inside and there is no charge to enter, by the way. the milwaukee came up with a simple solution to help travelers escaping the cold. it debuted a new coat check service. travelers leaving milwaukee where the weather is currently in the low teens, by the way, can now drop off their heavy coat before take-off leaving extra baggage space for beach towels and swim suits. >> that would be great if travelers who were arriving there could borrow. you don't want to have to pack that jacket. >> you may have seen girl scouts setting up shop at grocery stores and shops selling their

behind dna on a pillow, which was submitted to the national database known as codis. >> we knew we had our suspect's profile in the system and eventually would track that person down one way or another. >> reporter: a break came last month as officials were working through a back log of rain kits. an assault in albuquerque seemed to match the dna from mountain view. within weeks, mountain view police narrowed in on overton and were able to serve him with a warrant to obtain a dna sample. last week the crime lab was able to confirm his dna matched the evidence from both cases. >> it can encourage victims that, yes, it might take a while but it is possible for to us find the person who hurt them. >> overton faces 15 years to life in prison.

millions. he was convicted today in new york for wire fraud and making threats. his sentencing is set for june. >> a somber anniversary to note in florida. today marks two years since the shooting at marjory stoneman douglas high school in park land, florida. a former student opened fire with a semiautomatic rifle. 14 student and 3 teachers died in that massacre. students were released early from classes so they could participate in a day of service and love. for many it is a difficult day of reflection. >> right now it's just try to get through the day. tend of the day after what happened, you just have to look forward. >> as for the man accused of carrying out that deadly attack, no trial date has been set but jury selection is set to be in.
